I thought this was a clutch problem but I have a tendency (due to my old car being high geared) to change gear too early, thus possibly labouring the car. Could changing gears too early be the cause? I have just driven the car, taking longer to change gears, and it was fine.

  My last post on this was in February 2015 when a modification was made to this as I had been having problems. I have learned since then, that the clutch can be an issue with this car. All has been well since my last post, until last week when this failed completely. The car was only serviced the week previous to this at 80,000 miles, most of which has been motorway driving. The car will be three years old next February.

I just got this old car from my sister and the noise is makes is whiney/whirry and gets more high pitched the more I accelerate. I've been told by a mechanic the power steering and wheel bearings also may need replaced soon but sounds like this car needs help now!
