I have also changed the engine oil & filter. car is still offroad at present few more jobs to do before putting it back on road weather is delaying as garage is full so have to work outside. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - HPI check - outstanding finance 27 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I've made a lad an offer on what seems like a pretty good deal ('07 56 plate Vauxhall SRI NAV for £5k) subject to enquiring about insurance and running an HPI check. He's warned me that he still owes £4,700 on the car but says he'll pay it off with my money. I don't know him at all and can only take his word for it that he'll do this! Worst case scenario - I buy it and he doesn't pay off the debt; presumably the finance company can repossess the car from me with absolutely no comeback!? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 A couple of problems 25 Jan 2009 (Forum)
When i got it there was a over revving problem in idle when the car comes to a stop. I changed the speed sensor and it stayed the same, however when i run the car with the senor unplugged it drives perfect. I have tried cleaning the connectors and still it stays the same. Also when i driving when i try to put power in to the engine it gets very smokey for a few seconds and then dies down/ i would say ist when i am accelerating hard to get on to a motorway revving up to 70mph and then dies down. any ideas. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 97 1.9TD Rough starting - Glow plug sooting up. 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I've been having trouble starting my Peugeot for a while now and I have all of the indications of glow-plug failure (rough running until warmed up a little etc). One specific glow-plug has been failing consistently on being changed (1 month or so) and has been giving the above indications. On replacing the glow-plug I've noticed that the cylinder that it serves is very sooty and this soot, coating the plug, is what I suspect is stopping my glow-plug from functioning after around a month of use. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2004 1.8TDci - battery questions ...... 10 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2004 TDci Focus with 36k on the clock. Our mileage has now dropped dramatically - with the car only being used twice a week for short runs - and then once a month for a 300 mile "dash in a day". It still starts 1st time - but is becoming increasingly "reluctant" & I understand why this is - so am seeking your views on various ways of trickle charging the battery whilst its parked up - various devices are available. -
Convictions - can insurers find them out? 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
A long running saga takes a new twist. Dispute with violent and drunk neighbour ended up with him getting banned for 2 years, as he pitched up at home 3 times over the limit and the police nabbed him even tho he legged it into the house. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.9 PD 130 Glow Plug Warning Light 8 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I didn't even know the Golf had glow plugs, but it appears it does, and they aren't happy. The car starts and runs fine, but the "coiled spring" warning light flashes continously instead of going out after a few seconds when turning the ignition on. I've looked in the manual, which refers to the "Fuses" section, which helpfully doesn't appear to list any fuse for the glow plugs. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.25 Blows hot then only cold air. 3 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It wasnt very dirty I was just hoping it would do the trick. The thermostat seems to work as when I leave the car running stationery for twenty minutes it does heat up and the radiator fan does work as the fan does cut in. I wonder if any one has any ideas any help would be grealty appreciated. Silencer applied to the shouting !! -
Will this damage my tyre? 6 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I had to fill up at my local station this evening before a long journey tomorrow, at the pump both of the petrol fillers were shut, not a problem as I was after diesel. I started to fill up but found that the pump was running very very slowly, I seemed to be standing at the pump for ages when suddenly fuel started pouring out from the car's filler pipe, I stopped filling immediately but diesel spilled out all down the bodywork and covered my rear tyre/alloy. -
'New Old' Member Dropping By 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I'm Dan, 21 years old, student, and I drive a 57 plate BMW 116i. Previously I had a Ford Ka, which I had up until this summer when I had a run-in with a foreign lorry on the M40 :( Love my Beemer and think it's the best looking/handling hatchback you can buy. I smile every time I look at and drive it. Any other 1-series drivers on here? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 1.9td Air con and rev counter 22 Nov 2008 (Forum)
It only starts working again after the car has been left off for a few hours. All fuses seem to be alright though, oddly enough when the engines running if i remove the number 2 fuse you hear it click on and you have cold air, just no rev counter still, i think the two faults are connected Any ideas would really help, thanks ahead. -
The Nurburgring - any personal experiences? 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The idea of having a car for this sole purpose seems to get more and more appealing as opportunities in this day and age for 'enthusiastic' motoring are a trifle rare. I have seen that the circuit runs week-long training courses in the summer months which look appealing, I quite like the idea of being coached by the professionals in one of the circuit's cars before committing to any solo laps. It would also teach car control skills which could prove invaluable in a real world emergency. At the very least it would make the long journey worthwhile. -
Volkswagen Scirocco Mk II (1983 - 1991) - 87 1.8 oil warning light after service. 28 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The problem came when i started her up, the oil warning light continued flashing! Strange i thought but kept running at idle thinking the filter was not quite full. I stopped the engine because she was starting to sound a little "tappity" Any ideas??? completely bemused as i have never had an issue like this before! -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0tcdi - 4 injectors failed at 99K miles 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Ford main dealer has already replaced one injector at cost of £400 + after diagnostic check - now one week later - with original poor running and smoking not fixed - is claiming remaining 3 need to be replaced at additional cost of £850. Does this sound plausible ? I would have thought injectors were good for many more miles - should I expect Ford to replace - even though I reaslie warrnaty has expired...but there is an element of reasonable parts/component life expectancy and fitness for purpose here ? -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 2003 2.0ltr DPF pressure sensor fault? 26 Sep 2008 (Forum)
What i need to know is does the pressure sensor need adapting in after replacement? and should I be able to hear the additive pump run after 15 seconds of the cap being removed? Also can the filter be cleaned out with hot water as rumours let me believe or is fitting a new filter the only cure? All help much appreciated. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 07 2.0d Over-revving 24 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it, or is there a known problem (aside from engines disintegrating elsewhere in the forums!) Performance seems normal, and the engine is running fine. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - '98 1.2 merit 8-valve drain fuel tank 22 Sep 2008 (Forum)
If i manage to syphon it out do i need to do anything else like clean out fuel lines or put injector cleaner in the new tank of petrol? If so how much petrol should i refill the tank with and do i then run it or is it better to re-syphon this out also? Thanks -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 2.0 Zetec - Power Loss 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My wife has an Escort 1.8L and this is also quick. However, I am disappointed. I have had a new clutch and major service and, although the car runs sweetly, it still only seems to have the power I would expect from a 1.4 litre car. On long motorway inclines it is a struggle to maintain 70+mph. Accelerating full-throttle from rest, there is no kick and the engine struggles past 5000rpm. -
17 and just been chucked the keys. 4 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Giving my age away there! I assume I was insured as he was a car trader. Blow me down, a few weeks later and I had to run an errand for the firm I worked for at the time - got chucked the keys for an 89 F plate Fiat Croma Turbo. That, if anything felt faster than the XR. The first time I felt torque steer at the chain bar roundabout. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.6Hdi fuel gauge/computer readings 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I filled up with 40 miles indicated range but only got 50 litres of fuel into a nominal 60 litre tank. As I see this, if you trust the readings you won't run out of fuel which is probably the one would want it
