Mini Cooper S - Turbocharger warranty 7 Nov 2021 (Forum)
In August this year the turbo on my mini went. 2K later the garage fitted a new one and said that an oil change after 500 miles is advised or it may void the manufacturers warranty. Low and behold I completely forgot about this and have only just booked it in for an oil/filter change 3000 miles later. -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 95 1.5D Biodiesel in a Peugeot 106 21 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 106 with the 1.5 diesel engine, has anyone experience on running this on either biodiesel or mixing cooking oil with pump diesel? On another site, which I can't now remember the name of, it recommended not running veg oil with the Lucas pump, but changing it for a Bosch one. However looking at some of the previous threads on diesel pumps, changing them round can be quite tricky. -
Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - Turbo noise 2.5v6 TDI 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hello - hoping that someone can give me some advice. I'm getting alot of noise from the turbo charger when the changing gear, following depressing the clutch and lifting on the accelerator. Even at low engine revs it sounds like an pack of geese, this sound quickly dissapates after a couple of seconds. The car is at 130k and is serviced every 10K oil change etc, the engine has started to burn a bit of oil recently, but nothing extreme. -
Volvo 850 - 1995 9 Dec 2002 (Forum)
It has done 74,000 miles and is an automatic, 2-litre 20 valve model. Does anyone have any top tips regarding when the timing belt should be changed, what would be a good interval for oil changes (mainly urban use, with the odd blast up & down the full length of the M1), which oil to use, etc etc. I tried the Volvo Owners' Club website but it wasn't very helpful. -

Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 2002 1.5 Oil problem with spark plugs 15 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My Almera started to struggle with acceleration and eventually refused to start. I checked the spark plugs and they had oil on the tip and on the threads. I checked the gaskets round the plugs and they seem fine. I refuse to believe that the pistons or piston rings can be worn on a Nissan this young (2002) so Im going to change the PCV valve on it. -
Manual or Electric Oil Extractor? 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I've seen it recommended here to change your oil using a vacuum oil pump like the pela, and I was looking to buy one when I saw a 12v electric version of these that run from the cig. socket or with croc clips to the battery e.g Draper 73319. -
Engine oil - 1994 Astra. 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Just had a phone call from my son who lives 80 mls away from me. He's got a 1994 1.4 Astra 5 dr hatch (petrol)97000 miles. He's just bought a gallon of 15/40 oil for a oil change but just noticed it is marked for diesel engines. He's asking me if he can use this for a petrol engine. Would this be ok for the Astra cos to return it to where he bought it means a 50 mile journey and ferry ride. -
Subaru. semi or fully syth oil ? 16 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I run a 6 year old non turbo 2.0 litre Subaru with 80k miles.Servicing is done by my local mechanic on a \'labour only\' basis, with myself providing all parts from a motor factors. To date I have used a variety of 10/40 semi-synthetic oils at every change, but in Halfords yesterday was recommended (and bought)their own 5/40 fully synthetic, currently on offer at £15 for 5 litres. As an afterthought, will using this oil be detrimental to the engine, or even advantageous in the longer term? -
sucking out engine oil 24 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Would have though that removal of crud, is just as important as renewal of oil. Obviously easier and cheaper for dealer to change oil this way, but is it really any better, or even no worse than the traditional method? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive? -
Volvo 740 oil 7 Jun 2002 (Forum)
For the last oil change they used VW Synta 10/40 semi-synthetic. If I use fully synthetic oils will it be OK or am I best leaving it at semi-syn.The owners would like another 100K/13 yrs out of it. Ever optimistic but it is a sound car and worth keeping. -
Hyundai Accent - One-owner purchase, service history 8 Oct 2013 (Forum)
According to the receipts it has had a full service each year and alternate years new spark plugs and air filters as well as oil and oil filter change. Total mileage over 12 years? Just over 36,000. How many plug and air filter changes did it really need? Would you be able to tell if they hadn't been changed? -

Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 04 2.4 D5 Oil pressure 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The car has covered less than 44k miles from new, been serviced by Volvo from new and since we bought it at 25k miles had oil changes every 6k miles - always using the recommended 5/30 fully synthetic oil. Is this the start of a sludging issue or should I start by looking at the oil pressure switch ? -
Filling with oil 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I was giving my Nissan QX an oil and filter change today. Its an all-alloy V6 with 4 chain-driven cams. Very nicely laid out and dead easy to work on. There is one strange peculiarity though. On the front slam-panel there is a warning sticker which states "Never refill engine oil with oil level indicator removed". -
Mobil 1 and more on oil... 5 Sep 2002 (Forum)

Needless oil changes? 27 Aug 2004 (Forum)
HJ has propounded a number of times the benefits of leaving the car's first oil change up to (I think he said) maybe 12,000 miles in the interests of creating sufficient wear to allow the engine to bed in properly. Last October I bought a new Ford and after its first 1000 km checkup decided to follow HJ's advice.
