Vauxhall Corsa C (2005) 1.2 SXI - EML on and loosing power! HELP PLEASE? 30 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I took it to vauxhall in the first instance who, surprise surprise, diagnosed the problem to be the Engine Control Unit (ECU) after replacing the coil pack and sparks plugs also. I had the ECU replaced and this did not rectify the problem. I then had it re-diagnosed by a different garage as the head gasket which, as the car was blowing white smoke, was understandable. -
Ford Fiesta Saloon - EAC FAIL solution needed 18 Sep 2010 (Forum)
It will mean hiring a vehicle while it`s off road..Thats a better alternative than loosing my job. What I`m really after is advice.. Should I remove the unit and get it to The ECU doctor. paganuk -
FORD Galaxy 1.9 tdi - White smoke everywhere 27 Mar 2010 (Forum)
It looks as if the car is about to go up in flames. A week a go I had the engine codes read, P1570 and P1557. engine ECU blocked and Turbo pressure control repectively. I had been having a problem with dramatic power limitation at 60mph and also irractic accelaration on light throttle. Both of these where intermittant. -
Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 2001 1.8VVTi Co2 emission fail 16 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Toyota dealer is not seeing the blue smoke reported by the tester but agrees there is a problem As far as I know car drives fine. Although it has always used oil which is a common problem. Tomorrow they are swapping in an ECU from another car and will reprogramme it to see if that fixes the problem. Failing that they are out of ideas. Investigative labour charge is already £400 with no resolution. If it is the ECU what is rough cost and what other things could cause high CO2?? -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 01 1.8 Fault lights driving me crazy! 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
1) ABS ABS light comes on sometimes in journey (sometimes goes out again) sometime does not go off at startup sometimes fine for two days in a row. ABS seems to work fine though! Garage said it was the ABS ECU. Had this changed for a tested second-hand one - still just the same. Also checked over/ cleaned the big plug to the ABS ECU. Looks fine, no corrosion or dodgy wires. 2) Engine light (not spanner) Comes on about once a week and when it does the air con seems to 'warm up' - still works but not very well (normally very good). -
Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - 05 1.9 Intermittent Electrical Fault 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Having trawled this forum and the internet it seems that renaults are famed for electrical problems. I've seen anything from change a fuse to changing the ECU which appears to be a costly job. I know it is difficult for anyone to give an opinion on this but someone may have an idea should the service centre come back with nothing or want to change the ECU. -
Nissan Primera IV p12 (2002 - 2006) - 2002 2.2D Engine Trouble! 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'm worried about gearbox/transmission. Another mechanic with 15yrs experience in the main dealers has had it today. He got into the ECU but no faults came up. He tried replacing the injectors but no difference. He says he'd be very surprised if it was the air flow meter. I got the clutch replaced on Nov 07 and he wonders does the Dual Mass Flywheel needs replacing too? -
Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 2002 1.8 - Lambda probes 31 Mar 2008 (Forum)
All (posted in different form on a shop forum) The engine ecu warning light came on a few weeks back, the garage told me it was a fault with the lambda probes - the light reset itself (perhaps when the battery was disconnected for other work) and so nothing was done. -
Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - Diesel Engine Noise at 30k miles 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
This noise sounds like a mechanical friction or bearing problem. Could it be timing chain/tensioner?? This problem only happens since the dealer changed the ECU to fix the engine light problem. I wonder if the new ECU is doing something funny. Or is it the car needed an oil change, its due soon...(Done 7k miles since last service). I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this kind noise or similar noise with the engine. -
Congestion/co2 charging 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
So rather than tax the car and introduce pay per mile and all the other nonsense, i suggest charging by the amount of co2. With a bit of tweaking of an ecu (im no expert on these things) they could get get an output from the ecu showing how the car is driven and based on a nifty formula a calculation could be made regarding how much co2 has come out. -
Ford Ka cooling fan/warning light inop 21 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Still no luck, but reducing resistor further to 1kohm and the fan starts. This suggests to me the fan drive/relay/power is all OK but maybe ECU is sick and not reading thermistor correctly? The point of my question is - could the ECU have a calibration curve for thermistor which is now inaccurate? If so, can you clear the calibration? Do you think the car needs to meet it's maker? -
Ford Mondeo tdci 2005 - ford mondeo tdci 2005 won't start 2 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Because the injectors on the common rail are controlled by electric/electronics, is there in component/modulo apart from the ECU, if so where? I've remove the cables of the battery for about 3 hours to reset the ECU, I'm not sure whether it done or not, if not How to reset the ECU, and if by doing that do I have to reprogram the injectors? -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 2.0 Engine stalls a few seconds after starting 13 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I have measured the voltage to the coil power feed during this stall (min-hold multimeter) and it never drops below 14V (until the revs drop), so all the fuses and relays seem to be okay. Any suggestions? I will probably try changing the crank position sensor (what else does the ECU listen to!) but I assume that there is a DTC for a faulty crank sensor. After that, it is probably time to try a new ECU :( Once I have started the engine about 10 times, it will stay on and I can make my journey, usually with no issues. -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 02 2.5 v6 no fuel pump no crank = no start 23 Jun 2009 (Forum)
i hav bridged fuel pump relay(pumps)i have bridged starter relay(turns over) but still wont start whats missing is an earth signal from the ecu to turn everything on and allow to start suspect alarm ecu ,engine ecu or poss bad earth! The other day after waitin about an hour!! Car started and I started home 70 mls got 5mls and car started to mess about something elec poss a relay was cutting/pulsing in and out fast (but could not hear it and never have!) -
Vauxhall Insignia - Date Stamped Error Codes 26 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Good Morning All, I am after some advice please.... is there anyway of finding out the dates of cleared historical fault codes within the ecu? I have just been advised my 16 plate Insignia is going to cost around 4k for repairs to be done. But have been advised there is a previous historical fault code that has been cleared down. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and reply. -
toyota corolla verso 2L DIESEL - engine flooding 31 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hello, looking at a 10 plate verso which is a non runner, apparently been diagnosed at Toyota as major fuel leak and seller says been told injectors stuck in open position, seems odd all doing this and i thought it was more like a signal from ecu causing all. anyone know any history of this kind of defect, i do not have the p code associated with the fault. thanks, mike. -
Astra j sri 1-4t - abs light 3 May 2019 (Forum)
Only code that was picked up. Is this normal behaviour just for a abs sensor?? Concerns it may be ecu related. Thanks? -
Vauxhall Zafira - Camshaft trouble 8 Apr 2019 (Forum)
The sensor has been changed, timing checked, wiring checked and it’s still showing the fault code. I desperately need my car back, it’s not the ecu either as that already got sent away and came back clear. What else could be causing the code?! -
Any - Solar Battery Chargers 25 Feb 2017 (Forum)
However the lighter circuit is only live when the ignition is turned on (not a sensible option). I was wondering what the best way to wire the charger in was on a more modern car with ECU, etc?
