  • Bumper turnout for Pistons and Props motoring festival 9 Oct 2014 (News)
    This year, more than 76 classic motoring clubs took part in the two-day event, showing a wide range of classics from Ford GT40s to Morgans, Corvettes and even caravans. And that meant a 1200-strong car display. Crowds were wowed by displays from The Historic Rally Car Register, UK Street Machines, classic motorbikes and – up in the sky – The Blades and the Yakovlevs aerobatic display teams.
  • Records fall at Salon Prive sale 8 Sep 2014 (News)
    A rare 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder set a new record when it sold for £2.27m at the inaugural Salon Prive sale on Thursday, 4 September. The car – one of just 122 made – helped Silverstone Auctions rake in £9.9m in total sales at the Hampton Court event. Ferrari’s featured heavily at the auction, with a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Series II Coupe fetching £707,215 – £330,000 over its lower estimate and another world record.
  • Millers Announces an Ethanol Protecting Additive for Older Petrol Engines 1 May 2014 (News)
    Many owners of older cars are worried that increasing ethanol content in petrol will have corrosive effects on their engine fuel delivery systems and valve seats. Millers Oils has developed a lead-replacement additive called VSPe Power Plus that prevents valve seat recession, fuel system corrosion and detonation while also providing an octane boost improving the performance of older engines  while protecting components from wear and tear.
  • Volkswagen Golf 40th birthday celebrated: Techno-Classica 2014 31 Mar 2014 (News)
    Volkswagen Classic celebrated the Golf's 40th anniversary at the Techno-Classica Essen. The car, which has now outsold the Beetle by approaching 10 million copies, was shown in several variations, but it was the Mk1 in its cleanest and most unadultered form that screamed 'classic' the loudest for us.
  • Aston Martin dealer now selling mini DB Convertible for children 31 Jan 2014 (News)
    Buyers can even be as discerning as they would be when purchasing a full-sized Aston Martin – there’s a selection of interior trims and colours that can even be matched to another car. The interior is trimmed in leather and there's even an authentic wood-rimmed steering wheel.  West London based Nicholas Mee expects there to be plenty of demand for the tiny Aston, and so has cars in stock for demonstration or delivery at its dealership in Hammersmith.

    Driver Rod said prior to departure: “The only thing that's going to stop us from getting there are the two Fs: mental fatigue and fatigue of the car. Cause this is 80 odd years old, anything can break anywhere." Although the pair didn't complete the record, their 'Ocean to Ocean Challenge – America' has raised much needed money for the American Kidney Fund.

    The famous Back to the Future movie features a DeLorean DMC-12 and as a result the gullwing-doored car has earned a place in history as one of the most recognisable vehicles ever produced. However it could have been very different – the original Back to the Future script featured a fridge as the time machine!
  • Citroen C4 Grand Picasso Owners Face Sphere Crisis 22 Apr 2013 (News)
    The problem first came to our attention in March 2011 when there was a 6 week wait for replacements. See Car by Car Breakdown Since then, sphere failures and warranty replacement has been sporadic. We received a further report in June 2012. Another in February 2013. Then today, two separate reports in rapid succession, with the information that 1,500 spheres werwe on back order until June.
  • Honda's Swindon factory to shed 800 jobs 11 Jan 2013 (News)
    The factory currently employs employs 3500 people, and Swindon management is currently undertaking a 90-day consultation period, which it will try and avoid making compulsory redundancies. In 2012, Swindon made 166,000 cars, which is around 60 per cent of its potential output. Industry analysts predict that 2013 will be a tough year for sales in Europe as the full effects of the austerity measures being introduced in several economies.
  • David Cameron's FIAT 500 Up For Auction 10 Oct 2012 (News)
    It was bought by David Cameron in 1998 as a surprise birthday present for his wife Samantha, and the Camerons only ever covered around 1,000 miles in the 10 years that they owned the car Apart from its history, the car is probably one of the best 500s available. It has been restored to standard specification by the current owner, which included stripping the entire vehicle and replacing any part that required attention.
  • Ferrari 500 TRC to Star at Chelsea Autolegends 4 Aug 2012 (News)
    It will be part of a fine collection of classic Ferraris will be on display in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. This particular car (not the opne pictured) was forced to retire from racing when it was involved in an accident at the 1959 Targa Florio. In more recent years, it has been reunited with its original motor and restored by David Cottingham of DK Engineering, who now campaigns with the car at a variety of historic motoring events.
  • Goodwood announces strong line-up for supercar run 12 Jun 2012 (News)
    In all, as many as 60 of the latest supercars and first glance cars will be in action on the Hill, which will certainly be a feast for the senses of the expected 180,000+ visitors to the Festival of Speed and Moving Motor Show.  Amongst the more uncommon supercars making their British dynamic debut will be the GTA Spano from Spain, the de Macross Epique GT1 from South Korea, the Zagato-bodied AC 378 GT, and the new Morgan Plus 8.  Goodwood promises that there will be a few 'surprises' too.

    Two bubblecars: a 1957 Heinkel and a 1959 RHD Isetta 300, just like the one with which I began my car dealing career. This pristine example is estimated at £9,000 - £13,000 - rather more than the £60 I got for mine (though I did treble my money on it). 'Barn finds' include an original, completely unrestored 1920 Matchless combination, estimated at £45,000 - £55,000.
  • Mercedes-Benz launches competition for young drivers 20 Apr 2012 (News)
    Mercedes-Benz has launched a competition to give 100 youngsters a chance to drive on the famous Silverstone race circuit. It’s free to enter and the winners will get a tailored lesson in car control, braking, roundabouts and manoeuvres on a route that takes in the famous Bridge Corner, part of the pre-2011 Grand Prix circuit. The competition gives under-17s a chance to experience the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy at Silverstone before it opens to the public in May.

  • Public unhappy with condition of UK roads 27 Jul 2011 (News)
    One-in-three drivers have had their cars damaged by a pothole, and 16% have been in or have seen an accident caused by a pothole, according to a poll by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). Of 2,600 respondents, 88% voted pothole repair as the top priority for their local councils, and only 14% believe their council is doing a good job of road maintenance.
  • Qashqai production at Sunderland reaches one million 28 Jun 2011 (News)
    The one millionth Nissan Qashqai to be produced at the Sunderland plant rolled off the line today, and no other British built car has ever reached the million mark in such a short space of time. The silver 2.0-litre diesel TEKNA model was driven off the line four years, six months and 23 days after production initially started in December 2006.
