  • Mondeo air con rough running 6 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi All I have a 1998 Mondeo TD, When air con is switched on the car runs like a pig (i know air con saps some power but this seems a bit extreme). If i remove the air con belt and switch on there is still a drain on engine maybee ecu should tell the injector pump to run differently when air con is on, but in this case going wrong somewhere! any ideas?
  • 306Dturbo '96 speedo etc not working.... 10 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Also the temp gauge, reversing lights, coolant level lamp. The ECU lamp is on very faintly & so is the coolant temp warning lamp. I've replaced the fuse that feeds these (No.12 (10A)) but as soon as ignition is switched on the fuse blows, sometimes it's ok until the engine actually first fires up.

  • Vw Golf MK1V dash rattle 17 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, I've just bought a Golf Tdi 52 plate and it has an annoying rattle that's coming from behind the dash clocks on the drivers side. Is there an ECU under there or could it be the air vent pipe ? I'm asking this before i let my dealer start taking it apart and possibly creating more noise after they put it back together. Any help would be grately appreciated.
  • A basic (perhaps even stupid) question 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Apart from the radio code, do I need to be aware anything else if the battery is disconnected: ie will the ECU and other electronic gubbins reset itself etc ? With thanks in anticipation AI
  • Vectra cdti - 150 Need help egr ecu troubles. Pulling hair out 22 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Loss of power / acceleration. Would ecu not make the corrections to deal with change.? Will an egr / swirl delete solve the issue. ? Could it be im looking at the wrong things. ? Something ive missed. I have the car booked in to do a smoke test tomorrow to look for any small leaks that may not be visible.
  • Smart Forfour - Merc/smart failure to resolve. Please Advise. 10 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Fixing the car has become a saga at Mercedes Tonbridge, with them overcharging, making errors of diagnosis, and giving back a car with a failed ECU but not accepting responsibility. The letter below tells what happenend, but am I being unreasonable to expect they repair the ECU considering it was fine when I gave it to them. I would be grateful for advice thanks.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C - Vauxhall Vectra ECU nightmare. 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
In this country I need a car and if I'm to have a newer efficient car then I must live "over the barrel" as any of these computer/ECU problems will mean an enormous bill or as one mechanic said " a written off" motor! It would seem that this situation is worsening as cars become ever more complicated and computerised. Even a simple brake pad change in some vehicles now requires it be plugged in to a computer.
  • Ford Focus 1.0 ecoboost 2016 - Should I replace my catalytic converter? 9 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I've taken it to two different garages who have told me it's an emissions fault, and a) use high grade fuel, then b) replace the O2 sensor (which they did), then c) repair the ECU. After that final advise I took it to the main dealer who said the ECU needed updating (which they did), and after the light turned on again(!!), they told me it needed a new cat as the o2 sensors were reporting the same reading.
  • Combo C 2002/2004 - Combo C Fuel Pump fault after engine transplant 1 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Can anybody watching explain what actually turns on the power to the fuel pump and how the pressure regulation system works. I presume that the ECU controls all of this, but am not sure.I am tempted to just hotwire 12v onto that blue/red wire..but am fearful that the pressure regulation might involve fedback via the ECU so could have a bad outcome.
  • Subaru - Tip for 2.0 owners suffering performance flatspots 3 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I took it to the dealer and they said that there were no fault codes, nothing wrong with the car, and so they just 'reset the ECU' and gave it back to me 10mins later. Strangely enough it seemed to drive better and I thought no more about it. Over Christmas and New Year I noticed it flat spotting again and so called the dealer.
  • Toyota Yaris - Toyota Yaris Diesel Mk2 2010 - DPF Regeneration 19 Aug 2013 (Forum)
The problem has been reported to the garage and the technican didn't find anything wrong with it as there was no fault code being logged in the ECU. My dilema is that Toyota Technical Service ageed that the the DPF need changing, but they said the fault need to be identified by the garage, but the garage doesn't seem to find any fault code being stored in the ECU.
  • 2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 (55PS) E - Engine Mis-fire when Idling 23 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Since the coils were replaced, the mis-fire is on cylinder three only. The mechanic now believes that the fault could be with the ECU. He said that a faulty coil (before I had them replaced) could have sent a charge back to the ECU, causing damage. I am just after some advice really before I spend more money! Any ideas?
  • Vauxhall vectra B 1.8 pet 1978/79? Engine x18xe - misfiring Vectra b on tickover 12 Oct 2012 (Forum)
New plugs new air filter cleaned carb all leads spark ckecked hoses and tightentened dissconnected and cleaned MAF unit as yet not engine temp sensor. Have read on this site it could be and engine ecu earth fault, but also someone seems to think it could be the ECU itself, but as this is a costly exercise to test repair or replace i thought I'd ask your advice as to my next move. Help needed asap as I'm self employed and this is my work vehicle Many thanks

  • Land Rover Discovery II - Repair Problems 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
From the middle of November till the end of January the car went back and forth to garage trying to solve the problem, which at that point they decided was the ECU, this was sent off for repair. On the 16th of February the ECU repair company told the garage it was a complex repair and could be up to a week before we get it back, on the 22nd they said it wouldn't be this week.
