Petrol in a Diesel - how far will it go? 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Engine management light flickers off and on, first mostly off, but now mostly on. It sounds unusual, a bit "knocky" and driving it, it "feels" like a fuel problem, it goes then it doesn't, it goes then it doesn't. Vauxhall dealers plug into it and can't see the reason for the fault, and want the car back next week. I'm now totally unsure if I put diesel or petrol in (never had a diesel before, had this one about a month). -
- Supermarket Fuel Telegraph Cars Section Today 2 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Writing in todays motoring section Alex Robbins says there is no empirical evidence to show that Supermarket fuel is inferior. But a local company that manufactures Spectroscopy equipment have told me that when used to check fuels, the supermarket diesel was found to have less additives. And therefore inferior. -
KIA Sportage - Water in Fuel Filter Light occaisonally comes on 17 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I drive a 2007 2.0 diesel Sportage. 5000 miles / 4 months ago the water in fuel filter light started coming on occaisionally. I took it to the dealer who drained the fuel filter (he said he could tell whether there was water in it or not). -
Peugeot HDi low pressure fuel pump 10 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Arrowed, in red, is the pump itself contained within a plastic swirl pot; arrowed in black is the fuel gauge float arm, simple in operation. Just though you guys would like to see, it's not something you often see. Did somebody ask how a fuel gauge works back along? Well, there you have it. Also, I have included two pics of the net result of a low speed cambelt failure on a Peugeot 205 Diesel - merely a broken can bearing. -
6 drops of water 130,000 miles, Filters 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I mean cars fueled from regular mainstream pumps and not commercial vehicle storage tanks. To conclude, just focusing on the new common rail Diesels, these seem to have a felt type filter and have a water warning device. -
Excellium v Ultimate diesel? 10 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I notice my local Total station now has a pump for Excellium Diesel, which I assume is meant to be the equivalent of BP's Ultimate Diesel. Does anyone know whether it's the same fuel, or different - in which case, which one is best for mileage, performance, extending engine life, etc... -
Peugeot 106 Diesel starting problem 1 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I have checked for air in the fuel lines, so this is not the problem either - help please! also, can anyone recommend a good diesel specialist in the Reading/Berkshire area? I don't know an awful lot about Diesel engines and don't want to get ripped off. -

Diesel or petrol for my new car? 22 Feb 2001 (Forum)
Unfortunately, yesterday the beast perished, and may not be coming back. I am looking for a new car, but am not sure what to get and whether to go diesel (turbo) or petrol. I know diesel is more economic (more mpg) and has a lot of torque in low gears, but I don't want anything that is sluggish at higher speeds. I'd like my car to be stylish and a good performer, but not to cripple me with insurance and fuel bills. -

LagunaII 1.9Dci Fuel injection fault 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Anyone else had this problem with their diesel LagunaII? Intermittant 'Fault in Fuel injection' message, car refuses to go over 2,200 rpm. Fault clears if you stop and restart engine (not too feasible in outside lane!). 'Air valve' and 'solenoid' have been changed under warranty, car going back shortly for 5th attempt at sorting. -
Rover 200SDi not Revving No Power ! 22 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The RAC couldn't rind the problem and now a rover dealership have had it for 5 days and are running out of idea's ????? Some things I do know : The fuel is diesel i ran about 120 miles on the tank before the problem. The fuel filter seems ok and no air in the system. The intercooler/airfilter are letting air into the manafold. Rover are talking about trying a different fuel pump off another car but could a faulty fuel pump still allow the car to tick over so well ? -
Volkswagen Arteon - Petrol or Diesel Arteon 24 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Hi All, I am after some advice, I currently have a 2.0 R-Line 190 TSI on an 18 plate but my commute has now changed to 160 mile daily trip so I was thinking about adding a bit of money and trading in for the 2.0 TDI 190 as the fuel economy is at least on paper a lot better. I currently average around 44-47mpg each trip. Is this worth the swap? Is there any downfall to owning a diesel currently? Thanks in advance. -
Which? Confirms Hidden Costs of Running Diesel Cars 7 Aug 2019 (Forum)
The tables in the Which? report didn't consider residual values at all. Apart from the fuel savings, my '09 XF 3.0d cost £1k more than the petrol 3.0, and is now worth £4k more at trade-in. And it's a better drive! A typical Which? headline grabber with little substance. The real question is why diesel in the UK costs 15-20p more a litre than our European neighbours are paying, whereas petrol costs are about the same. -
Hyundai i40 Style 1.7 Diesel 136ps 14 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Hi all My current car, my beloved Seat Exeo is coming to the end of its lease period. I am looking at a Hyundai i40 diesel. It appears an attractive option as a replacement and seems to have many creature comforts as standard. Does anyone own or lease one, if so I would be interested to read your thoughts on this car in relation to ownership, fuel consumption, any niggles, etc. -

Diesel Tuning Boxes and Increased economy? 30 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Just browsing Ebay for nothing in particular (as you do!) and noticed a tuning box for a turbo diesel car. It got me thinking that they all claim extra power AND extra MPG. Now the extra power I can understand by turning up the turbo a bit but extra economy? Surely that is rubbish. When you are accelerating, you'll be usibng more fuel as the turbo is turned up and when you are cruising surely it makes no difference to economy. -
nissan quasqai 2.0 diesel 2007 - engine cuts out whilst driving 5 Jan 2014 (Forum)
while driving along today, the engine on our 2.0 diesel just seem to cut out as though the fuel had been cut off and came to a standstill, all lights are showing on dash and are ok and the engine turns over on starter motor but will not start, these models are camchain and not cambelt so i wouldn't suspect the camchain to break, but who knows!!! -
Hyundai iX35 - iX35 1.7 or 2.0 Diesel - which to go for 5 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Finally decided to go for a new iX35 and would appreciate any advice on whether to go for the 1.7 or the 2.0 Diesel. I have driven both and found the 2.0 a bit quieter and a bit more gutsy but am concerned about the fuel economy; I've looked at Real MPG and just wanted to check whether anyone has experience of the post-facelift 2.0 CRDi - is it any better or just the same as the old one?
