  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 04 2.0vti - stalling problem, not sure what to do 11 May 2008 (Forum)
I had the AA round and there were no fault codes but frankly I didn't trust their computer that much. Now, something very strange also happened today with the car. When I have the air con on and stopped at some traffic lights, the rev counter moves between 400 and 100 every few seconds. It goes up and down. Switch the aircon off and immediately it goes to 400-450. I have changed the air filter about a year ago and only ever use the best fuel.
  • Suzuki Celerio - Suzuki Warranty 12 May 2021 (Forum)
Should I take this offer up or should I now just think about servicing the car myself and save what could be £200 warranty cover and £300 ish Main Dealer servicing a year, totalling roughly £500 a year. It’s the none air con model so not a lot to go wrong really. The warranty would really be for engine failure but am I right to assume that this K10B engine is fairly reliable. Any advice would be appreciated.
  • Rail replacement buses 2 Jul 2018 (Forum)
do they "run to time" and emulate the stops (if any) of the original cancelled train? Are they reliable modern buses with air con etc" Are they staffed by properly trained drivers who understand the customer care needs of rail passengers? Also-I presume that in the event of wide ranging cancellations the staff who were scheduled to drive or be conductors on the original cancelled trains are stood down  and are not invloved in any way with the bus service?
  • Skoda Superb - water ingress 11 Feb 2015 (Forum)
However recently I noticed the footwell behind and underneath the drivers seat is sodden wet. ( which accounts for the unusual condensation and icing inside the car recently) I have checked the drainage holes in door panels adjacent to the footwell and they seem to be clear. There is a floor mounted vent under the seat, presumably part of the heating/air con system, but looking under the car it all seems to be quite well sealed with no cuts or bits missing. The door seals are in good condition and no sign of water from that area. Any ideas please? Is something blocked or broken that I cannot see but can rectify?
  • New old car or old new one? 15 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I assume the 2007 version would have all the goodies at the basic model's prices, as against the new one which would no doubt have seats as an extra on the L or LX. A ghia might get you air con. Would the 2007 version depreciate even faster after 2014, or would the 2014 version be hit by goodies being added every two years to each version as it ages?
  • Nissan Note 1.6 Tekna auto (2007) - heater fan stopped working 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
After 3 years trouble-free, the' in-car' heater /air con fan suddenly stopped working. Fan controls on dashboard show symbols and lights on as normal, but fan did not function. This fault is unusual on the Note but more common on the Nissan Micra model.
  • Renault Modus - Renault Modus - any good? 29 Nov 2010 (Forum)
A friend has offered me their Renault Modus 57 plate 25k 1.2 Turbo Dynamique for £4,250 (they got offered £4,400 as a trade in) Its a nice drive and i like the air con and part leather. However, being a renault puts me of it (reliability) And the 1 hour and 14 screws to remove to change a light bulb (the bonnet is tiny and difficult to access any thing) The clutch is fairly high and it is now due its 3 year service.
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 05 2.0 Climate Control Problem/Depollution fault 11 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The second problem is the Climate control, the car has a digital display while checking things out as you do with a new car I noticed the Air Con only cools down on the passenger side while the drivers side remains hot even when turned to low. Anyone out there got any ideas ? The car came with 3 months warranty but I have only done 40 miles & the Problemshave already started.
  • Poly-vee belts 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The poly-vee belt on my 1992 BMW 525i drives the water pump, alternator and steering/suspension pump (no air-con) through a tortuous run with the help of a couple of idler pulleys, one being a spring-loaded tensioner. I assume that the 'tortuous run' is necessary to get a good wrap-round of the belt on the pulleys on this fast-accelerating engine.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 01 1.9 Replaced serp belt. Now slipping. 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hey, Ive been having problems with my 1.9 Citreon Berlingo van the serp belt has been squeeling for quite sometime so today I decided to change the belt. I have the modle with automatic adjuster and power steering with no air con. I got the belt fitted fine. checked it all over turned the engine over but hand to make sure the belt was ok and it was. Went to start the van and the belt started to slide off and then it stopped so now the belt is half on half off.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 01 2.0 Heater blower running after car locked. 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Unlocked the car, and sure enough, the fan was blowing away merrily. The fan was completely unresponsive to the control on the dash (manual air con, not climate). Switched on the ignition, and the fan suddenly came back under control of the dash control. Switched off the ignition and the fan quit as normal. I'm guessing it's some kind of Canbus strop, but any ideas if this is a sign of impending problems?
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.25 Sqeaky auxiliary drive belt 2 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I've replaced the the tensioner bearing, the idler and the water pump, though not all at once, so can't rule these out completely. It doesn't have air con or power steering. I wonder if it's the alternator bearing but with the belt off, the bearing seems fine and it's quite an expensive part to replace if not the source of the problem. I've changed the belt itself which cured the problem for a while, which I don't quite understand, but now it's back.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 98 3.0 Do I need to replace water pump 19 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Therefore is it just the belt that needs adjusting or replacing and not the water pump which I have been quoted £700 to replace. If so, is this a big job to do? The car doesn't overheat, the heating and air con work and all the hoses get hot at present and seems to be fine apart from the belt noise. Thanks
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 2002 2.0 TS2 - possible battery problem? 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Its happened three times now and its always after my wife has done a very short journey ( air con to demist the windows. Its done this even though the previous journey was fairly long so i would have thought the battery would be fairly well charged. When i put the battery on charge, the charger shows the battery to be fully charged after just 10mins.
  • Ex Met Police Vectra V6 22 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I've seen a fair few of these for sale of late, all old shape 2.6 V6 SRi auto 5dr hatches, factory lowered with xenons but lacking in air con, with around 90k on the clock. Most are on Y plates in white but I have seen two 02 plates in white and silver too. My question is this - should I touch one of these with a bargepole? I know they'll have been thrashed to within an inch of their lives, and the majority will probably have had some kind of accident or other mishap, but should this put me off if the price is right?
  • BMW 320d fuel/oil leak 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
My recently purchased 51 plate 320d touring (30k with full BMWSH) has been dropping small quantities of what I believe is either diesel or oil on my drive. There is also a strong smell of diesel coming through air con when sitting at junction etc. Are these 2 issues likely to be linked? I saw an item on this website about a known issue on 320d of this age saying fuel pump and filters are likely to need changing) The car was purchased from Lloyds Bank Car Select and came with full warranty.
  • A4 windows open on their own...and rain 10 Nov 2005 (Forum)
'Twas a very soggy journey to work this morning - my pants have not felt like this since I was a very small boy. 3 questions I hope you guys can help with: - Any ideas on how to rectify the phantom windows? - How should I dry the inside of the car out? I was think of running the air con at full tilt and hot with the engine on for a while. Windows up or down? - Anything special I should do with the leather seats? Thanks for reading - any ideas you have would be very welcome indeed.
  • Volvo Climate Control 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Last week I spotted a larger than usual puddle of condensate under the car, after it had been parked for a while. Yesterday, on a long run, the air-con remained cold, but the force of the breeze from the vents got less and less, even though I turned the fan up manually and reduced the temp to minimum. All that happened was that the fan got very noisy, but there was no more breeze out of the vents, but out of one vent I got a jet of cold steam(?).
  • Mystery water leak Rover 214 SEi 31 May 2004 (Forum)
The oil is clean (relatively), there is no sludge under the oil filler cap therefore does not seem to be water in with the oil. However, the leak continues but we cannot track down the source. The car does not have any air con so its not a drip from that. The engine does not appear to be overheating. Any ideas to a probably cause??????????
  • Progress over 5/10 years 21 Jun 2003 (Forum)
This made me think. If uou look at a "basic" Astra or Focus etc just now, it will come with PAS, electric windows, air con, CD radio, airbags etc as standard, whereas as recent as 5 years ago these things would probably all have been optional. We know that top of the range BMs etc have sat nav,, clim control, cruise control etc but what do you think the basic Astra or Focus equivalent will have as standard in 5 years - xenons?
