  I would appreciate if any B.R.`s could inform me of the final drive ratio of the BMW E46 320d saloon. I have a Touring, which is 80kg heavier than the saloon, with a F.D. ratio of 2.35, and was wondering if this is lower than the saloon, and help explain the lower fuel consumption (39 mpg average) that I am getting

  I was offered an unregistered one (but pre the almost un-noticeable facelift) at £17,250.00 at a main dealer and I think was a lot more flexibility on price as well. I was amazed on the test drive to have the salesman urging me to red line it to feel the variable valve timing effect. This was the car he was hoping to sell me - it had 25 miles on it! Quick car but I couldn't help thinking of that Morrisey song - 'hairdresser on fire'

  Most of the time it's fine but on sometimes the idle flucutates (+/- 250 rpm) and when it's doing this if I change from neutral to drive or reverse, it sometimes stalls. A local toyota garage had it today and since they couldn't reproduce the fault, drew a blank. Any suggestions appreciated. Martin - Bristol, UK

  Anyone else out there find the seats in the new mondeo uncomfortable? After a test drive I liked the car but not the seat. I found it too narrow with very firm side bits which stick into your hips. I'm tall but not wide. The dealer claimed this was the first negative observation on the seats in years of selling mondeo's!

  Apparently there are around 250 fatalities/serious injuries at 5pm on Fridays, compared with 180 average for the same time other weekdays. (I find both figures staggeringly high). So, all of you take care driving home tonight - and of course every other night too. HF

  I drive a 93 Vauxhall Cavalier V6 which will only allow me to listen to the stereo when the ignition is on. Is there a quick and easy wiring 'fix' that will let me listen to the radio without even having the keys in the ignition.
• Fiesta ABS light 7 Jan 2003 (Forum)
  When the engine is switched off and restarted they go off after a few seconds as required. The handbook states if ABS and handbrake light come on then do not drive but does not mention abs and traction lights. Could this be a fault with the check system? Any help welcome.

  My missus has a 97 Micra 1.3 SR.I quite like to drive it as it goes like the proverbial off a shovel,however the radio reception is patchy,to say the least.It has the roof mounted aerial above the drivers door,but even fully erect,(oooeeerrr missus)it doesn't make any difference.

  I was wondering if its a good deal at £300 with 46000 miles, and history, and also what could be making a ear hurting squeak/grind when i turn the steering wheel to the right, and a rumbling from the engine when the car is in drive whilst stopped. i would buy it if its only going to be about £100 to fix.

  Recently when I start it first time in the morning,it starts quickly but as soon as I try changing to 'Reverse' or 'Drive',it switches off. If I leave it to warm up for a few minutes in 'Park',it is OK. Any help greatly appreciated, as I am planning to take it to the garage! Thanks again

  Hi, Thanks for looking at this. At the moment my dad drives an E36 BMW M3 Evo, however he is considering changing it for a 1997+ M5. How much are these cars currently going for and how much cheaper will they be in a years time? - i.e. is it worth waiting a year to take advantage of depreciation?

  I know I will be able to order a RHD car but it may take a while for delivery. I don't mind sitting on the wrong side of the car when driving so I'm thinking of importing a left hooker. Can anyone think of any benefits or drawbacks to this hare brained idea? Chris

  Looking for the comfiest, supportive seats and as much legroom as possible up front, but still leaving legroom behind the drivers seat. Can`t get on with the driving position of my Skoda Octavia and the seat squabs are too short. Appreciate I`m probably looking at executive/luxury motors (which is not a problem) but I am interested in recommendations from fellow long legged b*****s!

  can any one give me any ideas as to what is causing my volvo 740 2.3 auto matic to judder when i select Drive?? it only judders when the car is stationary and is worse when the engine is cold. when i increase the revs with the accelarator to around 900rpm (whilst still stationary) the judder stops but the car pulls on the brakes. can anyone give me any advice as to what is causing this.
• Warming up period 30 Sep 2002 (Forum)
  The handbook for my K11 Nissan Micra recommends letting the car idle for at least 30 secs after start up, presumably to let the car warm up. Surely some mistake? Isn't the best policy to drive off straight after starting -- the engine will warm up quicker that way, anyway. Or does the engine management system need 30 secs of readings to get its bearings? Mike

  I have a '92 nissan primera which unfortunately has a very small oil leak which is making a bit of a mess of our drive. I have heard of various products which you can add to the oil, has anybody had any experience of these? Also where would I start, when looking for a leak, do nissans have particular places that they leak from?

  Despite being the proud owner of a 2001 VW Polo I want to buy a cheap car in France for use while I'm over there. The prangs that are synonymous with Parisian driving and the crime that a UK reg'd car attracts make it a no-brainer. Have up to £800 to spend - can anyone offer any advice? PS A convertible or something sporty would be nice
• Rumbling Peugeot 205 12 Aug 2002 (Forum)
  My partner's son has a K-reg Peugeot 205 1.1 GL (72k on the clock), which is emitting a rumbling/faintly grinding noise when turning left, not that alarming but nonetheless audible, particularly at speed, and can be felt through the steering. It has the local independent Peugeot specialist baffled; he has replaced both drive shafts and the RHS front wheel bearing, but to no effect. Any clues?

  Daughter will be learning to drive and use Toyota Yaris when not being instructed. I have tried fitting a Halfords Rear View Mirror but because of the slant of the windscren you almost have to lie down to view traffic, before I go to the Toyata Garage to have another fitted does any one know another outlet for rear view mirrors.
