Lazy or crazy? 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have since discovered that I have a client, also a publishing director, who lives in the apartment block right next to where he works. Thinking back to my track-running days at school, I?d guess it?s a distance of between 100-200 metres and he drives it everyday also in a large Mercedes. In addition, he has to negotiate a tricksy underground carpark at either end of his journey. -
Recurring Wheel Bearing issue Fiesta 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, I have replaced the passenger side wheel bearing twice in as many weeks on my MK 3 Fiesta XR2i 1991 1.6 and it has started to groan again after only one day on the car and a short motorway run. I removed the hub/carrier from the car and got 2 different local garages to fit the bearing for me (1st one even put the hub back for me on the car). Everything is ok until a drive on the motorway or similar for about 10 min and then the groaning noise returns with vibration in sync with the noise. -
Electric Motorcars ? 11 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The Telegraph motoring section, Saturday Aug. 28, has an article on an Indian electric car called the Riva G-Wiz. It looks something like the Smart, but runs off batteries. I'm fairly sure that the car would satisfy the daily motoring needs of most of the backroomers. There is also a news announcement that Ford are recalling their electric 'Think' car, "...made for and shipped to the British and USA markets". -
'Coding' Marcedes ECU's 23 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Recently came across an out-of-warranty Mecedes A-class that was lacking power and generally running badly. I took a look at it and advised the owner that the AFM was probably at fault. As A-class owners may know the AFM is integrated into the ECU and sits on the right hand side of the engine as one unit. -
Bedford Rascal Help Needed. Please. 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Then once I pull away there seems to be no power there in first and second gears. This problem seems to sort itself out after the initial moving off and it seems to run fine from then on. I dont know whether this is all part of one problem or they are two seperate problems?. I have set the points and the timing and cannot see any loose connections anywhere on the ignition circuit. -
Slow Diesel in the Morning 2 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have run two turbo-diesel automatics; a Peugeot 605DT (since deceased) and a new Hyundai Trajet CRDT (brand new this Sept - only 2,300miles so far). With both of theme, they were very sluggish in the morning, m until they were warmed through. -
Why do petrol engines... 18 Nov 2004 (Forum)
need to run richer on the warm up cycle? I have always wondered this and not seen much of an explanation anywhere. Reading how engines work on howstuffworks.com didn't shed any light either. I can understand them needing a bit of extra fuel to start but I don't know why extra fuel is needed while the engine is cold. -
Galaxy ABS warning light 17 Nov 2004 (Forum)
We phoned our local Ford dealership who said that this could be as a result of having disconnected the battery, and that we should run the car for about 150 miles during which it might reset itself. Well, 290 miles later and the warning light is still on. On the 'phone this morning we've been told it'll need a diagnostic test and, depending on the results, could cost up to £800 plus 5 hours' labour to fix! -
Citroen ZX 1.9 Diesel 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My Citroen ZX 1.9 (Non turbo) Diesel has a strong smell of Diesel fumes at the exhaust (a lot stronger smell than normal - and most other diesels produce). The car runs fine and does not produce any black or grey smoke when accelerating. I have also noticed that the economy has dropped off a bit lately around the same time. I have changed the air filter, and the oil recently (the car is regularly serviced) as well as using some injector cleaner in the fuel, and this had no effect on either the economy or the smell. -
Vauxhall Monterey PAS Pump 8 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Folks, The HP hose on my PAS punctured recently, allowing the pump to "run dry" for around 30 miles at moderate speeds. There were no sounds of mechanical distress, apart from gurgling and odd nosies just as the last of the fluid ran out and pressure was lost. I assumed that there would be enough residual oil to prevent damage. -
Golf 2 ECU Probs? 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
On attempting to start the car from cold, it is turning over a number of times before eventually struggling to start. Then once started, it will struggle once or twice before running as normal, ticking over fine. This has only happened twice in the last week and is usually when the car has been standing for 12hours or so and the weather has been wet.. After the last time, when it took ages to start as it is starting to once again but struggled to not cut out and was loosing power etc. -
Home for Clio? 11 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Don't really care too much where it goes so long as it's not our problem anymore. Any ideas? It runs, everything works on it (save gasket) - leccy windows, power steering, remote locking, etc We're not too worried about how much we get either, just want rid. Would break my heart to pay someone to take it away and scrap it as it's only one repair away from being useful to someone. -
Handsfree Technology HF300 car kit 10 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The bad news is it costs £99.99 "plus p&p" (amount unspecified), will need the mobile phone to be mounted somewhere (on the dashboard?) for use, and so a wire (supplied) will need to be run from the headrest to the phone, and there is no provision for charging the phone. If it had been a third, or even half, the price I'd probably be interested. Probably it cost $99.99 in the US, using the traditional conversion rate. -
patronosing letter from the AA 6 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Just had a letter from the AA saying my good lady and I have called them out 4 times in the present year(runs oct to oct for me)Apparently I am allowed 6 after which they will charge me £95 for any subsequent breakdown. To cap it all they said if our cars are unreliable call into one of their service centres where their experts would be able to service them. -

Cam Belt changes. 28 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I am not sure what the manufacturer recommends (if anything) for my car so perhaps I could have a reasonably definative opinion from the techies amongst us. My car is to be run until either it, or I am dead! Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi with the VW PD 101 bhp diesel engine. I already change the oil & filter at around 10,000 kilometer intervals BTW - much to the surprise of the franchised VW/Skoda dealers I have used. -

Audi A3 diesel/petrol 18 Aug 2004 (Forum)
What Car recons there is a 1% difference which doesn't sound like much. Secondly, which will be more expensive to service and do both run on variable service intervals (not too confident in the dealer on this one!)? Would appreciate any comments, Toby. -
Volvo Climate Control 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Last week I spotted a larger than usual puddle of condensate under the car, after it had been parked for a while. Yesterday, on a long run, the air-con remained cold, but the force of the breeze from the vents got less and less, even though I turned the fan up manually and reduced the temp to minimum. All that happened was that the fan got very noisy, but there was no more breeze out of the vents, but out of one vent I got a jet of cold steam(?). -
CCTV For Cars 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I have a Seat Alhambra V\'99 model.I park my car away from the house in car parking bay, often out for sight of my house.I have had my car SCRATCHED many times by the LOCAL SCUM BAGS for no reason at all.I\'m after a system that I could use within the car which runs on 12v.It would be good if the cctv camera were infa red/low light, montion detected say 4 meter range, records to video/hard drive and cover 360 degess so may be more than one camera to be used. I have looked at endless web sites with on real luck.I open this up to you all as the POLICE said if you got them on tape they are NICKED.....
