what if i just went and got another seat would it do the job.
is it easy to take a seat out it doesnt look it to me

I thought they were bolted to the seat frame? Depends whether it is one of those vaguely triangular shaped sockets that automatically tensions in an accident. In the good old days when it was just a simple catch you could just buy the new socket from the dealer/scrapyard and bolt it on, but I suspect the electronics involved in the tensioning mechanism mean a visit to a dealer and the part won't be cheap.

its a k reg 1.2 if that helps

nowt electronic.

if it bolts on i will have a look this week end
i thought it might have been welded on though

can you confirm?

The passenger belt was damaged on my M reg 1.2 and unfortunately I had to have the whole unit replaced. Its not like on my old mini where each holder just bolts to the floor - its all connected to underneath the seat.

If you look in the car-by-car breakdown section there is a note in there about a recall on this model Corsa with regards to reinforcing the front seat reails and replacing fatigued or worn front seatbelt buckles.

What do you mean by the whole unit?

I think he means the seat belt socket that bolts to the seat.

Before you start removing things, have you tried squirting some WD-40 down the hole? Might just be a case that the mechanism is stuck.

Around the K / M reg Vauxhall started fitting seatbelt pretensioners. In the event of an accident the seatbelt would tighten. The seatbelt socket had a bowden cable attached to the seat runner. The seat would move forward slighty and pull on the cable, thus pulling the socket closer to the seat and tightening the belt. A huge spring is under the seat and needs locking before removal of the seat. If this spring goes off while removing the seat, then things can get quite nasty to say the least. Details of how to lock the spring are mentioned in Haynes manuals, and you might well have to visit a dealer to buy the locking clips to secure the spring.
