  • Mondeo Auto,latest view. 9 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Last weekend i had a short test drive in an 05 Mondeo 2.0LX petrol auto. It meets all my needs and at £8k ish is real value. But has the auto box been fixed? HJ identified the problem in "car-by-car"and others refer to it but has Ford done anything to later models that will make it last beyond 60/70 k?

  • Focus Boot release problem 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The electric boot release on my Focus is releasing the boot catch whilst driving (without the dash button or keyfob being pressed). When I stop to close the boot and switch on the ignition, the catch releases again. I know it isn't a mechanical problem as the latch doesn't release when the car is parked and the keys are not in the ignition.

Also liked the whole Italian supercar thing, though think it was a tad irresponsible for Clarkson to drive knowing he had no brakes.
  • Insurance 20 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The reason for this is that I have been advised to go for a larger engined car by my instructor who says they are easier to drive and to keep up with the traffic. Would there be a huge difference in price between groups 3 and 5 insurance and what are your views? any car suggestions also?

  • Rover 75 1.8 17 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Out and about today was offered 2000 May Rover 75 Classic SE 1.8 in black. 37000 miles with aircon and alloys. The car is beautiful and drives like new. No ball of fire but quiet and smooth. Owner closing down his business and 'open to offers'. I don't need it but at £1850 should I buy it? Might replace my trusty old Clio with it if I thought it was reliable.

  • 2001 Passat headlights 15 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I've just recently bought a 2001 VW Passat 1.8T Sport. On Saturday night I was heading south down the M74 from Glasgow in driving rain and was appalled at the lack of light coming from the dipped headlights. Main beam are OK, but dipped are as good as no use. Have I got a wiring/bulb issue or are all Passats like this? I used to have a Mondeo and the headlights on it were excellent.
  • M60 today Silver Polo 11 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I was driving on the M60 today (going to Trafford Centre) a silver VW polo overtook me on the outside lane ... suddenly the driver was swerving all over the outside lane, really erraticly .. it was a woman. Her head was being thrown around whilst she was jerking the wheel ...
  • Mini roundabouts - who cares? 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Last night I saw two different small cars approach different mini roundabouts, both turned right by cutting the corner and leaving the small central hump to the left of their car. There were no other vehicles at either roundabout. Is it me, or is this style of driving becoming more acceptable? -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say.
  • Induction kit 23 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Anyone know what kind of Induction Kit gives out a deep sound when driving? I have one on my Prelude, and it does sound a little deep, but I want it deeper. Obviously, you guys have some experience in these matters, so what kind of affordable Induction Kit would you recommend for a 1. loud, deep sound, and a 2.

  • This user has requested their profile be 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Why do so many BRers hide their profile? What is wrong with just saying which part of the country you are from and what car you drive. I can understand that contributers may not want to give all their personal details, but I find it hard to see the potential harm in perhaps letting us know which field you work in. Go on! you know it makes sense!

Any thoughts ? 2000 (old) v70 tdi )audi 5 cylinder engine)
  • Rear axle bearings (Stag) 16 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hi folks Got another question on my '73 Triumph Stag, but it's relevant to any rear-wheel-drive car: I'm hearing a wub-wub sound from the rear most of the time now - can almost feel it too, but that might be anecdotal. The diff is nicely filled with oil and the car is usually otherwise smooth and quiet.
  • Round the Island record 7 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Slightly tenuous connection to motoring, but I thought the petrol-heads might like to know that a boat has recently circumnavigated the Isle of Wight (60 miles) in 32 minutes. Having 16 litres of Lamborghini driving the propellors probably helped. Given that it was limited to 90mph in the Solent (how petty is that?) this is a record that seems likely to stand for some time...
