WHY???? do people ...... - storme
Why do people HAVE to answer their phones while driving??? even when they have a passenger sat next to them....

and why do they need to answer the phone...mine has a display that tells me who is ringing....i can phone them later..or at a convinient time...ie when i can pull over into a law abiding place(not a roundabout,,,no stopping zone etc etc)

Maybe cos they are not expecting a call, so when it rings, they are worried and concerned about the reason for the unexpected call?

so they cant wait 2 minutes,,to pull over????

is it worth 2 minutes of their life?? to cause an accident....

there is no rule in the world that says you HAVE to answer the phone...

Like most laws that are passed to prevent accidents,Mobile phone *abuse* (ie) taking a call while driving is illegal, but as we dont have many Police around to enforce it, it will get worse as very few will not wait to reply to a call.I think van drivers are the worst but not all!

Talk about not having enough police to enforce it.. One of our chaps at Royal Mail was delivering to a house with steps up to the front door,so was high enough to look down into cars as they passed,a police car passed with a W.P.C. driving and he could see her dialing or texting on her mobile phone with it held lower than the windscreen.
Seems they are just as human as us.

Or another way to look at it is there is one law for us and one law for them. I can think of several occasions where i have seen police cars breaking the speed limit yet no lights or sirens on. Obviously they are not attending an emergency, just having a laugh. Police acquaintences have told me that if they get pulled over while off duty, they usually just have to confirm they are a cop, and are let go if it isnt serious. I'm not saying they are unique in this respect, most professions will "look out for their own", but this is very apparent with the police.

No excuses for letoffs, though "the job" is not the only profession that defends its own, but there a plenty of good reasons not to announce Old Bill's arrival at a crime scene with blue lights and sirens.

You must be joking - they *always* put them on, hoping the baddies will run away.

Last time we had to call them they did a high speed but silent approach to our house and the first audible sign that we had called them was the arrival of the helicopter complete with it's nightsun illuminating half the street. :-)

All very exciting, I'd love to have a job just driving those high powered Volvos, I can only imagine the adrenaline rush when you do actually fire up the blues and twos!

But. Taking a call while driving is NOT illegal, so long as the phone is not hand-held.

Maybe because they want to. Why do YOU worry so much about it? Just give them a wide berth and let them run into someone else if you're worrying that much about their driving being compromised whilst on the phone.

Agree with that, keep out their way but sometimes you dont know someone is on their mobile. Yesterday while on the M25 I passed a lorry and the Mrs said the driver was on his mobile, smoking a fag and had his elbow on the steering wheel.

I used to get stressed out by people on the phone whilst driving, but quite frankly - it's not worth the hassle.

I think having driven in Florida for a couple of weeks has made me chill big time!

Yes it annoys me but unless I know I can stop that person from doing it again, then I'll just keep to my side of the road and avoid them. In a few minutes I'll have forgotten about them anyway, and they'll be some other idiot to worry about.

Exactly, steve - Careless Driving is Normal. Should we all accept that is a Good Thing?

far from being normal, vast majority of drivers are ok.Its only the odd few that behave in this way,as I stated before lack of policing is the problem.
No one including me mentioned it was acceptable, far from it. but what exactly is anyone meant to do-confront a driver that is in the wrong?,Not a good idea and one that is rather *risky* and best left to the law to sort out, suspect they will get caught in the end
