Why do so many BRers hide their profile? What is wrong with just saying which part of the country you are from and what car you drive.

I can understand that contributers may not want to give all their personal details, but I find it hard to see the potential harm in perhaps letting us know which field you work in.

Go on! you know it makes sense!

Sorry Captain.

Adam, you don't do it!
I assume some people don't want their email address shown, especially if it contains their full, normal name!

Is there any point in withholding one's e-mail address when the spam filter is red hot catching rubbish from all quarters? It seems practically anybody can get hold of lists.

If anyone is afraid of being bombarded with e-mail arising here, don't worry; I've had about three people from this site, and that includes mods!

Do you mind rephrasing that ;o)

I hasten to repudiate the insinuation!

I think the problem is that it defaults to hidden. It took me a few weeks to realise it could be shown.

Why do so many BRers hide their profile?

Correction. We don't hide them - we just don't fill them in.

And if you lived near Portsmouth and drove a Vectra, you would leave it blank too!

Apparently not having a (P) after your forum name doesn't necessarily mean that your profile is hidden.

I was ignorant to the profile thing but I have taken it on board drbe, pleast dont hit me !!!....not the ruler again !!!

IIRC the {P} was a voluntary indicator which people added to their name to show that they had completed their profile.

Changing the subject slightly (hope mods don't mind)

Why do some profiles have "numbers of posts" and other profiles don't?
This user has requested their profile be - smokie
I hadn't noticed that. Got an example of someone without?

Renault Family - at least at this moment. Perhaps one will mysteriously appear in a minute or two.

Under "My profile" you have (amongst other things) the option of whether to display your usage statistics or not.

And you do not need to display your email address Bobby G.
Pretty simple to set up.
I am worried about people not giving some details about themselves.
Some forums make it compulsory to show basic details.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.

Yes just amended mine, won't be showing full name though!

Lots of people prefer anonymity on the internet so lack of profile should not be worrying.

Signing up for the forums is dependent on supplying an email address, even if this is not publicly visible. I don't think there are any grounds for concern...

I have filled my profile out fully and ticked all the right boxes, yet I have check a recent post and there is no (P) after my name.
