  • Mondeo TD Ignition light 20 May 2003 (Forum)
My ignition light has just started coming on while the engine is running, it goes off whren the revs rise up but stays on on tickover. the rev counter also shows that the car is only ticking over on 250 rpm, normally 850-900 rpm, but the engine sound has not changed. Does the car have some sort of voltage regulator?
  • Renault diesel-unfeasibly high emissions 14 May 2003 (Forum)
My 1996 60,000 mile Laguna diesel failed it's MOT emissions test - which at 60k miles it shouldn't do I reckon. Maybe my daily 5 mile trips are to blame in that the engine never really warms up or gets a fast run? Can anyone suggest the the cheapest way of fixing this - a mate reckons I need to change the injectors...?
  • BMW Tyre Wear 9 May 2003 (Forum)
A friend runs a G reg. bmw 735i SE (150,000 miles & picked up for next to nothing) He has recently noticed a bald patch appearing in just one area on the outside edge of the front offside tyre. The tracking is fine & no wheel imbalance can be felt through the steering wheel.
  • Any fellow classic car fans out there? 7 May 2003 (Forum)
Obviously, as a self-confessed fan of classics (and I do count the Marina amongst them), I'm just wondering how many of the people in the BR would like to run a classic. And if they actually managed it, what classic would it be? Cheers guys and gals Rob

  • Saxo cambelt-advice please. 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1998 1.4 saxo which has only done 33K miles to date. Mostly short runs 4-5 miles each journey. Citroen advise change the cambelt at 72K service and they do not give a time limit. What should I do? As the car is coming up to 5 years old I feel inclined to get the belt changed but is this necessary?

  • Sludge 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
With just the pottering type mileage she does it is to be expected - but should I be concerned about it? Is there an easy way to get rid of it, such as me using the car for my long journey runs or should I use an engine flush or...... Be pleased to hear suggestions/observations
  • Small secondhand automatic? 6 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Have spotted a few 1990-92 Renault Clio autos within price band, but the guides warn against old Renault autos for poor reliability. Most important factor is reliability. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who runs a Micra or Punto CVT auto. Thanks in anticipation.
  • HT leads 21 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Had the Mondeo (1999, 50k miles) serviced on Saturday and mentioned to the man at the garage that starting on wet, cold mornings has been a bit hesitant. He changed the leads and it's different altogether. Runs smoother and picks up better as well. They were obviously well due for a change, so why aren't they scheduled for, say, 40k miles or 3 years? Any thoughts? Andy

Just tried to scape the ice off my car windscreen.......hopeless then got my old halfords spray that your just spray on it "melts" the ice away, brilliant but its run out. Me being tight was wondering if just some anti freeze (coolant) with water would have the same affect., and put that in the spray dispenser. Don't want to mess about will boiling hot water from a kettle either before someone suggests it.
  • Seat Leon 24 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Having run a Leon for 12 months and seen many a positive comment about them on this website, why is it any Leon apart from the Cupra is virtually invisible in most car mag comparisons and tests? In lease car terms, the Leon ends up way ahead of the Golf and A3 and yet trying to find a review of models other than Cupra and Cupra R is left to trawling through the darkest reaches of the web.
  • C Reg Carlton 1.8 loses power under load 7 Aug 2002 (Forum)

  • Galaxy Cambelt Change 17 Jul 2002 (Forum)
If that is the case then should his Ford dealership have agreed to book it in for a change when there are no rattles and the car is running well? Thanks, Paul.
  • Trade Car Concerns 1 Jul 2002 (Forum)
The cars generally have the advantage of being one owner and well maintained, but my concern is the inevitable lack of care for cars not your own. How relevant are acknowledgment of running in periods and general abuse in terms of long term reliability in modern cars. All comments very much appreciated! Cheers
  • Is it possible? 4 Apr 2002 (Forum)
...to buy and run a reliable car for less than £100 a month? This to include depreciating the purchase price over 12 months and one tank of petrol a month. (obviously talking old banger for occasional 2nd car use here) Two 30-something drivers, both max no claims, car garaged overnight, good area, no DIY servicing....

  • BMW 320Ci Tyres 12 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Has anybody got any first hand experience of the most suitable tyres for the above. I have been running on Goodyear Eagle NCT 5`s(205 50 17W), but have been most unhappy with the handling- above 90 m.p.h. the steering becomes very light, vague and lacking grip, which has spoilt my enjoyment of the vehicle.
