  I notice the local tyre place uses a torque wrench, are they difficult to use? I was going to phone the tech department of the BMW garage and ask for the torque values and then install myself. Ideas, thoughts?

  Motorlogix broker BMW prices look very tempting but a small catch seems to be that you have to sign the order form before they tell you which dealer it will come from. Potentially I could have to travel to the Outer Hebrides to collect the car or pay for delivery.

  I glanced at the pop up (above) re a very well equipped BMW at a very signigant price reduction. The second time I looked at it I saw that the offer related to a car built in 2006. At the most optimistic view this car is 2 years and 3 months old, minumum. Where has it been all this time, will it have a 'new' car warranty, and is it a good buy at that price?

  Can you help please as I have just been quoted £152 by BMW to change the battery on my 530i. I have found some good deals on the Internet for a new battery but where does it go? If someone could let me know and how to change it I would be very grateful, it can't be that difficult surely?

  Two mates had their cars serviced last week, the first a 3 year old Renault Scenic with front discs and pads plus two tyres on top replaced was just about £1000. The BMW ''w'' 3 series came at £1300 ish with nothing major done. The Renault main dealers charged £200 for the tyres. Both blokes did not think the cost excessive, what do you think?

  Looking at a number of used BMW 5 series diesels (530 and 535d). Can any backroomers tell me if the engines have a timing belt or are they chain driven. A lot of the cars we have looked at seem to have around 60k on the clock. I would not like to buy and then get hit with a big bill for a timing belt change.

  About £8000 to spend so have been looking at 1998 Sports mainly and some newer lower spec models. Can anyone give me any advice on Compacts? I'm new to BMWs and Compacts so any advice would be great. For example, is it worth paying the extra to get a Sport? Will I find them a reliable motor? Will servicing and running costs be high? Thanks in advance.

  What is the best way to bleed brakes on a 1997 BMW 316 compact? I ask because I have heard rumors that you have to be careful using one of those ezibleed one man systems on ABS systems if at all. I have one but have never used it or would it be better to avoid using this and get someone to pump the pedal while I bleed the system?

  It opens the doors and boot alright, but when i try to lock the car, nothing happens, tried the duplicate and the same problem. But i can lock the car manually with the key Now i will be calling the BMW dealer tomorrow, but i am just scared thinking of the huge bill that i will have to pay. Please help

  I see that the new 3 series is fitted with intelligent brake lights, you know the ones that shine brighter the harder you press the pedal. Hardly rocket science but BMW seem to think so with the sales pitchs i've read today. My point is what's the point? Accidents waiting to happen me thinks. *sorry mate for rear ending you, didn't see ya brake lights..* hmmm..

  I recently changed the brake fluid on my 2000' BMW 525D after the warning light appeared on the dash. I believe that there is a way to reset the brake fluid warning light by certain timed pushes of the trip button. Can anyone shed some light on this.

  I keep passing an original shark nosed 3 series BMW on the way to work and had forgotten what a nice looking car they are. I actually quite fancy buying one now so does anyone have advise onto the pitfalls of this certain model? The 316 with the 1.8 litre engine is the one I fancy.

  I posted about starting problems with a BMW 325TDS SE - all cured now thanks to some new glow - plugs, but what a game fitting them... inlet manifold off etc... Anyone know how to adjust the idle speed - it currently runs at about 750 - 800 rpm, seems a tad fast to me - any ideas?

  My wife has decided that her years of devotion to myself and the children justify a 3 series BMW for her next birthday present! It would seem that a 12 to 18 month old vehicle is expensive in relation to a new one and the new engine is worth having. To avoid this typical Catch 22 I am considering importing one.

  First in an occasional series of fascinating posts ;-) We're here to talk about cars rather than moan about other road users so I thought I'd get things moving in that direction. What's your favourite BMW? A company with a proud heritage, producing many fine vehicles over the years, perhaps overshadowed by BMW bashing and the fact that they've made a huge sales success in the UK. Personally I love the old BMW 700 coupe from the mid 1960s.

  Additional the dealer has prommised many things and not delivered , I honestly believe they think I will give up and walk away , well I have, but not without a fight on their hands for a full refund (maybe compensation too). Considering this maybe a fault in my area with radio frequencies I contacted my local BMW dealer to explain my disgust and there response was "There is nothing wrong with your car , that is as far as we go ". Warning To ALL! If you buy a BMW , borrow it for a week or so first to check in works where you live , because BMW will not help if it doesn't .
