  • French tramways 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Was watching from my bedroom window this morning as some more work was being done on the tramway at the bottom of my garden, due to be running in 18 months. My mind went back to one of our bike trips to Bavaria when we spent the night on the way in Nancy. So I put Nancy trams into You Tube as we had gone into town on the rubber tyred guided system they have there A few links led to other cities and I was intrigued to see Bordeaux had a system which, at one stage of the film, had a tram comprising of seven units.
  • MINI MINI One D R50 (2003 - 2007) - 03 1.4 Help With Cutting Out Problem Please 21 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I googled and on some toyotas (same engine) it means HV ECU malfunction? I tried disconnecing the MAF and running the car, but it still cuts out. Any more help or advice warmly received.
  • PC32 can you get out of it? 14 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I've just been given a fixed penalty notice - endorsable for dropping my daughter off just after a pedestrian crossing on the zigzags and told that even though I remained at the wheel with the engin running and hazards on that I was parked, thus would get 3 penalty points for a PC32 code. They insisted that I got out of the car leaving it in the "hazardous" position for which I had apparently got the notice for longer even though I offered to drive the few metres to a non zig zag area first.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 Trouble starting 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
It seems to only do it when cold, but I have had it do the same thing when warm as well. The only thing I've done so far is change the spark plugs but to no avail! When it does start it runs great. Is my starting problem someway linked to my problem I had in Feb?
  • Vauxhall - Vivaro 04 1.9 Runaway Diesel 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The works took bout 4 weeks, I collected the van & only made it 10 miles and the gear linkage came off, stuck in 6th gear but when I reved to move the engine runaway, rev counter went off the scale lots of smoke! kept on running even with keys out! I tried to stall engine but it just destroyed my new clutch, van was recovered again & the tech said it had been overfilled with oil. Now vauxhall have replaced the clutch plate & told me the engine is perfect no work required, What do u think?
  • Kawasaki V12 25 Aug 2009 (Forum)
At the popham airfield bike show yesterday, I was amazed by a Kawasaki V12 - made from a kawasaki 1300 straight-6 with an additional block. I couldn't figure out how the exhaust exited from the rear blcok - and I didn't hear it running. I think the same guy has previously built a kawasaki V8 - from two 750 straight-4 blocks. I did hear this runnig at Beaulieu, and thought that was very impressive. I know other road going V8s (e.g. the Boss Hog !)
  • Ford Puma (1997 - 2001) - 02 1.7 Ticking/clicking engine noise- is it normal 22 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The noise is linked to revs (ie. gets faster when you rev it) It isn't too loud but I did think it was a diesel coming into the street the other day when my wife was driving it. I've driven a mondeo that made a similar sound. Car has 80k on the clock and is running perfectly in every way with no mods. Any ideas what could be the cause- is this normal or common fault on pumas? Ford didn't seem to notice it when they changed the cambelt last year. Thanks in advance, Mike.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Millers diesel power ECOMAX 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Leading on from long term caretaking of new Octavia, would it be worthwhile running the car on this? It is the 1.9 105bhp PD engine, used it before on old Mondy never saw any difference, but would have needed a strip down to see if any cleaner inside. As all manufacurers, VAG do not recommend any fuel additives, but Millers is well respected in diesel circles.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 01 1.9 Replaced serp belt. Now slipping. 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Went to start the van and the belt started to slide off and then it stopped so now the belt is half on half off. I re fitted it and it did it again. The van runs but why does the belt keep slipping ? Any help would be great. Header amended to give brief details of question being asked
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.8 Diesel issue 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi, i have an 97 Escort Estate TDI (think it's 1.8). The performance is excellent and I'm getting between 50 and 58 mph on long runs between Riga and Cesis in Latvia. However, every so often it "coughs" or hesitates. After this, it carries on as normal. All other performance is fine, expect it has (as a result of one of these coughs, cut out about 3 times when standing still).
  • Current highest mileage with NO engine repair 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Please do not bother to add if the head or sump have been off for any reason. Please also do not bother if less than 200,000m. Our old 'school-run' VW Passat Est 2.0 GL did 242,000 with no attention to the engine apart from regular oil and filter changes every 10,000 and a few sets of spark plugs. Only the cambelt tensioner pulley was replaced [by me] - but not even the cambelt.
  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 2003 1.3 overheating help!! duratec 30 Jun 2009 (Forum)
KA Duratec (the new type) 1.3 year 2003, fan has been running a lot lately, the temp light came on the dash... looked under the bonnet and I saw the header tank it has starting to split. let it cool down and had a look. all the pipes are getting hot and the heater is red hot.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 04 2.0 Petrol - Flat spot when accelerating 30 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Hi My 2004 C5 when cold is running a little weird. If you rev the engine to pull off when cold, it will almost stall and the revs drop almost a backfire. Once revved above about 1500-200rpm it is fine. Idles smootly and pulls away fine with coaxing.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.3 Endura - smoking and missing 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The engine also miss-fires and the exhaust back-fires. It uses an awful lot of oil and blows the oil filler cap off. All in all it runs very rough indeed. There is a slight knocking from the engine but I think this is pretty normal on these engines? I have no idea when it was last serviced as I have just bought it with NO history. Theres no water or anything in the oil.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 99 1.2 Sudden loss of power - how do I test AFM? 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Mentioned this before on this site and my car has been running perfectly the past 300 miles but was crossing major junction today and the engine did not respond to that I was increasing preasure on the throttle, it was quite scary. I've checked the thottle cable and it seems to be fine so I am suspecting an AFM fault.
  • Rover 45 (1999 - 2005) - 00 1.8 Never starts first time/stalls on Drive 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
s suffered from the same fault since I bought it: it rarely starts first time, needing between 2 and 10 attempts to turn the engine over before it will start. Then, once the engine is running, it stalls as soon as I put the car into Drive. Once I?ve been through that whole routine at the start of the day, it?s fine. I took it back to the garage a few times after buying it, but they always claimed it started for them, so they couldn?
  • Volkswagen Polo IV (2002-2005) - 03 1.2 Exhaust Emissions Warning Lamp 27 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have a frustrating problem with my petrol engined Polo, and I suspect the garage are running out of ideas. Recently the emissions warning light came on. The garage advised that the Lambda sensor had failed and so we had it replaced. A couple of months later the light came on again and I returned the car to the garage.
  • Ban tractors from dual carriageways? [Read Only] 17 Apr 2009 (Forum)
There aren't any specific details but having driven this section of road hundreds of times I would guess that they ploughed into the back of the tractor. The A38 runs at motorway speeds, and I've been caught out along with everyone else that drives the road by coming across a tractor doing 15mph. It can be avoided by looking a long way ahead, as you should, but the only indication is usually heavy braking ahead.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.5 mk3 v6 lack of power 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
My Mondeo v6 2.5l is suffering from a lack of power when I accelerate. Taking of from junctions I have to be careful! The car runs well and smooth, quiet, just a lack of getup and go. For a v6 it is very poor. My old Audi A4 v6 was a hot rod compared to this. Any ideas suggestions before I resort to FORD. I have checked under the bonnet and nothing loose or obviously missing.
  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 99 1.3 Poor spark on 2 cylinders 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
My KA lost power a few weeks ago and started running on 2 cylinders. Had the usual spark plug problem (now resolved) and have changed the spark plugs, leads and coil pack but I am still getting a poor spark on 1 and 4 whilst 2 and 3 are fine - which seems to imply the coil pack but I have changed that again to another brand new one and I still get the same problem.
