• Engine management light Polo 1.0,'01 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
  The e/m light on my Daughters Polo came on recently , took it to a VW specialist and his diagnosis was that a misfire was showing on the faultcode . so far as I'm aware it has never misfired and he switched the warning light off , it has now come on again athough the cars running fine it's intermittent and tends to come on when the engines idling . Any ideas ?

  The power steering on my W reg / 2000 Astra 1.8SXi starts a droning whine as soon as the engine is running. Above 30 MPH the engine drowns it out. While the car is stationary touching the steering wheel makes it change in pitch. Bearing in mind the age of the car if this is a harmless "characteristic" I am happy to ignore it.

  I have a curious fault on the heater fan switch in as much as when I turn the ignition off, and open the drivers door the fan starts up and continues running. this has aonly happened since I had the fan resistors repaired so as it would operate on speeds 1 & 2. Anyone else come across this unusual fault as I'm fed up having to jump start and recharge the battery!

  The clock analogue clock in my Y-reg Ford Ka seems to be running slow recently. Today when i got in it after not been started for a week i noticed the clock was about an hour slow, then once when i used it during the week it gradually became slower by a about 10 minutes.

  My father is looking to replace the tyres on his 52 plate Rover 75 CDi Connoseur (sp?). It's currently running on Firestones which produce a lot of road noise. Looking at earlier posts here, Dunlop and Continental tyres have been suggested as replacements for the original tyres. Is this still the case? Comfort and lack of noise are preferred over on-the-limit handling!

  Basically, when warm, under load, and at low revs, the engine sometimes makes a 'popping' sound accompanied by a sudden jerk. Is this the engine backfiring? If so, what's causing it? The engine otherwise runs fine with no apparent misfire. Thanks, -------------- Mike Farrow

• Ford Focus Electrical Annomaly 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
  We have a 53 plate Focus Zetec, and I was wondering if anyone else has seen the following strange electrical annomaly, ie when the engine is running with the lights on, if you blip the throttle, as the engine settles down to idle, all of the light flicker briefly and then settle back to steady again. I think this has always been the case, but I was wondering if this is a normal annomaly of this model ?

  I have a constant problem with squirrels running all over my car and leaving their dirty footprints on the paint work. It wouldn't be such a problem if there wasn't a hosepipe ban and that I am trying to sell the car and so want it to look as good as possible for prospective buyers.

  Hi guys, I'm planning to buy a 1.3 96/97 Hyndai Accent as a second car which would mainly be used at my part-time job (take-away deliveries). I would like to know how reliable they are and if they're cheap to run (MPG, insurance etc..). Are there any common faults which I should be aware of and if there's any more info you would like to add please do so. Thanks!

  The battery failed on my Mazda 626 the other day, I replaced it and now she starts and runs well apart from tickover which seems to be lower, you can come upto a junction and the engine will die, shell starts up straight away , but the tickover is now lumpier since the battery change . I can live with it but its just annoying .Any ideas?

  Is it worth spending 20 quid on the fully synthetic oil like Mobil 1 and so on? They promise improved fuel economy and quieter running. Worth spending the extra or just going for Halfords cheapest diesel oil?

  98 2.5 V6, runs great, tick over is fine but when I first start the engine there is a loud 'clacking' noise which could be a very, very noisy tappet! Speeds up with the engine as it is revved. The noise disappears after 5 minutes or so - when the engine is warmed up?

  i have a 2002 1.6 zetec,yesterday after a four hour moterway run my front suspension is making a horrible creaking noise.went out this morning not a sound.a friend at work thinks it is anti roll bar linkages or suspension bushes.if this is the problem is it best to change both sides,or just the offending one.any thoughts.

  my girlfriend's p reg polo is sucking air in somewhere,i can see it in the fuel lines near the fuel filter but cant find where its coming from,ive changed the fuel filter and all the connections on it but its still doing it,please help as the car is running rough and sounds like a tank.

  hi all i have a 99 vectra 1.8 gls and my management light comes on now and then but its running ok ,any way my friend has borrowed a diagnostic machine from his work .he says this will point any probs out when pluged in .but we are unable to find the point to plug it in .we are baffeld can some one please help. thanks dave

  i have a renault espace 2.1 td 1994 and ever since i got it it has had an odd miss or hic on tickover.ive tried the usual stuff-fuel and air filter changed the oil, flushed with redex. could it be the glow plugs? as it seems worse when cold.at other revs it is fine and runs smoothly even at the 99 thousand miles it has on the clock...
