Driving, heat, and corporate manslaughter 27 May 2009 (Forum)
ve protested strongly about the lack of aircon, but have been firmly told that it is a ?luxury we can?t afford?. I disagree, I think it?s a (health and) safety issue. Where do I stand? More importantly, anyone got any ideas of what I can do? -
Injection moulded 4 Apr 2009 (Ask HJ)
I need some advice on my 2004 Mondeo TDCI auto. It’s done 74,000 miles. From cold, it starts, but blue smoke fills the road and it runs roughly. When driving... -
Choosing an automatic - the good & the bad ? 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
d be shopping in the B or C sector and am after something reliable, economical but with perhaps a bit of go if needed. Looking at the market in the 1300 ? 2000 cc range there?s not always the choice you might think since auto?s are only available on some engine ranges, and not many diesels. However I?m a bit indecisive about the best auto to look for, the pros & cons appear to be : ? -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.2 Coil light appearing and cutting out. 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I was wondering if you could advice me before I call to book in my car I have only owned for 10 days. I?ve just brought a Y reg 1.2 16v Clio.. only 47?000 miles on clock. So the car?s been fine until the other day and a little orange/yellow coil light came on and engine cut out and poor idling. Seemed fine until it done in again yesterday but had to try a few times to get started then fine again, this happened again this morning. -
`Tupped` by French behemoth in city street 23 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I was struck by the fragility of the human condition..the loneliness of sentience, despite friendships and the overarching brooding of impending eternity and non-existence. Despite our 120 collective years, that would likely be our only interaction. So what`s the point? Well, two things really. Firstly all this took place under the scrutiny of the city camera`s and she had not put a 30min (max) ticket on her motor. I watched front and back, for the appearance of the Stasi, that have now taken to wearing fleeces as a uniform in an attempt to blend in and creep up on you unnoticed. -
Most influence on your spannering? 25 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Citroen Car Club meetings would have a resident expert who would dispense wise words if you could get near him. For those of you that like or liked getting your hands dirty, which book(s) or magazine(s) have helped you most in your lifetime of oily skinned knuckles, crucial lost widgets and foul language? Or did parents, uncles or friends help you on your way? I ask because one of my son's mates has had an old Mini bought for him and he wants to wire in an array of spotlights. -
BMW E21 - distributor and poor running 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
do you think it?s possible that this closeness (probably only 5mm) between the metal surround of the cap and the leads is leading to the bad running? Any thoughts at all would be really appreciated ? I?m deeply confused? -

Have you renewed your Road tax 13 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Walked past the wife?s car and stopped?shock horror the road tax disc read 31.5.06. Having never missed renewing in almost 50 years how could it happen. Well I have a system of when receiving the renewal reminder of placing it in a prominent position ( top of my monitor) and get new tax disc at our post office on or about the required 14 days before its due. -
Tyres (all makes) 24 Dec 2004 (Forum)
The cost of the whole incident was 2 (refurb alloys from our local specialist at 50 pounds a shot, since the tyres were almost new and 80 pounds each, and thus could be used as a spare instead of the space saver), and two new perilli 6000's from the tut tutting gent, who i must say has been fab. Which immediately returned the car's handling back to the original handling. Sid -
Which? Reliability survey - Vol 2. 19 Aug 2004 (Forum)
They take the dash out and discover that the dashboard demist tubes have never been connected from new. That\'s why I was making enquiries of Autobytel about a Volve V70. See; Do These Cars Exist? -
Breakdown Mechanic killed my car 21 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve just managed to get the starter off the car.. and my worst fears are confirmed. The starter\'s fine - but the flywheel has 6 of it\'s teeth stripped - and I can only find 4 of them. Immediatley I\'m thinking of shouting at the his employer and getting them to pay for the repair.. but what chance have I got of that happening?? -
Those WOW! moments remembered 20 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Being at a DeTomaso Pantera owners club meet at Castle Coombe, but it was an open invite for any other supercar owners (again in the late 80's). There we 10 countachs lined up next to each other with their doors open. - nice. Same meet - a Ferrari 288 GTO with the numberplate BEG 4 1T as a numberplate turned up. The only one i ever saw. And just recently a Ferrari F40 bogging down as it took off from the Frizzell r'bout traffic lights, only to suddenly get a rush of power and just scream off. fantastic. -
The adventure begins... 16 Nov 2002 (Forum)
And having driven it around the roads and motorways today I don't think we're going to be disappointed. Of course, if we are I'll post here! :-) Just a quick thanks to HJ , Andy S and everyone else who gave me advice on choosing. I've taken HJ's advice and not opted for the super hard sports suspension+ with 17" wheels and I think that's a wise move. His recommendation that it's "the most fun car there is" (C by C) I'd find hard to dispute. -
Most disappointing car. 25 Sep 2025 (Forum)
I think it has to be the Ford Capri. After listing after one as a new 17yr old driver I finally drove one in my 20’s, aaaand absolutely hated it. It was awful. Cart springs and an ancient asthmatic carb fed pinto motor do not a sports coupe make. But what was your greatest motoring disappointment? -
Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Zetec - Lack of knowledge about engine cover and under tra 3 Sep 2024 (Forum)
My instinct tells me it is, however, I am not very well up on any cars younger than late 70's models. Thanks. -
2016 Suzuki Vitara - Test Drive 19 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I took a Vitara (Manual 1.4 Boosterjet S Allgrip) for a short test drive today. Good points: - Quite a lively engine - Good gear change - very precise - Decent space all round - Very manoeuvrable with good visibility - Not a bad drive, decent ride and accurate steering Bad points: - Quite noisy - Very narrow seats - No front armrest (I care...) -
Skoda Fabia SE - Emissions and road tax 16 Feb 2024 (Forum)
I own the above Skoda model registered in 2014. It has a 3-cylinder 1198cc engine. A friend of mine owns a 2014 Nissan Note Acenta Premium DIG-S which also has a 3-cylinder 1198cc engine. Because his emits only 99g/Km it falls into band A and he pays no road tax. My car produces 128g/Km (band D) which costs me £150. Can anyone tell me what his engine has that mine doesn't? -
£8k to spend - Looking for a Diesel Saloon/Hatch 5 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Ideally looking to spend no more than £8k and would be looking at Diesel and no more than 100k on the clock. From what I've seen a 320d looks a good option but naturally I'm seeing A4's, Golf's, Octavia's etc. I appreciate for that I'm looking at something around 10 years old too. What's everyone's personal opinion? I'm swaying toward a 3 series but having never owned one (Always had VAG group Vehicles) I'd appreciate any thoughts!
