  engine when cold or warm now will only run smoothly when in 1st 2nd or 3 rd gear, 4th or 5th and the car feels like it will shake to bits. After the above first happened,i took it to my local garage,they plugged it in to the diagnostic system which registered 5 faults, all random and electrically generated.

  Sold car 3weeks later, insurance wont cancell the last 12 months unless i return cheque. so you finnish up paying for car you no longer own,cannot swop to new car either. Have also worked out the claim limit over the 2 year periods there run for is about the cost of insurance. So you might as well save the money and pay for the repairs ,i would have been about £1200 better of over the years.

  The most important factors for me are: * Comfortable for passengers (especially those prone to car sickness) * Safe and reliable * Enough space in the back to meet my needs * Not too thrirsy/ costly to run My budget will be around £7k and at the moment I am considering the Toyota Verso, VW Golf Plus, VW Touran and the Ford S-Max.  If there are any non MPV models that could meet these requirements, I would also be interested in considering them Any ideas please?

  Yesterday morning, after a cold (but no where near as cold as before) night, the light came on again. What will cause the light to come on? The car runs OK, but could any hidden damage have been caused (as I have driven some distance with the light on)? Is it reasonable to expect the dealer to rectify the problem at his cost (as I've not had the car 6 months yet)?

  Help!!  My 2000 2.0l BMW Z3 has been running perfectly since I bought it.  The other day I drove it for half an hour and parked up for 2 hours.  Everything was fine until I started the car and the EML and traction control lights came on (yellow) simultaneously.

  When I start the car from cold first thing in the morning after about 2-3 minutes it starts emitting white smoke from the exhaust. The engine management light was also coming on. The car runs fine and there isn't any loss of power. I took it to the trader as it was still under warranty. They replaced the EGR valve and the engine emission light went away but car still emit white smoke when you start it from cold.

  Tonight whilst driving home the engine began to rev of its own free will then rev counter dropped to 1k revs regardless of throttle input, about 200 yards away from home there was masses of smoke pouring from the engine bay and the car cut out but restarted itself straight away. The stench was terrific ( burning clutch type smell ). Whilst the car was running I limped it the few yards to home then decided to call the RAC. 2 hours later and car is still smelling like a burning rubber tip and an RAC visit, the patrolman reckons he can't find a fault.

  I have got Astra 2004 1.7 cdti lite but I have to fill up the screenwash bottle nearly every 2 days and the water runs out pretty much every second day. What is that i should do? Tried looking for a bottle online and couldnt find it. Also what will be the size of the window wiper blades and I am not even sure if its an aero blade or not.

  Any advice on what else we should get checked/changed?  I have heard that there can be issues with the engines running cool on the 8v. There were signs of an oil leak when we inspected the car and the dealer said it needed a new head gasket and offered to replace it .  I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this as I had similar leak on a vectra and a new head gasket made no difference.

  So can anyone give me an rough idea of what I should be looking to budget per year for repairs / maintenance to keep it running and get it through its MOT. For arguments sake, lets say a 1.6 pertol engine - and I don't really do mechanics so would be done at local friendly garage. Shout up if i've missed any info....

  But not a Pug, I am sick of the orange particle filter lights coming on, 500€uros, and the diesel additive running out, another 400€uros. Peugeot dealers are driving Mercedes here in France! Thanks in advance for any advice.

  Disconnected battery to reset 7. Reconnected battery, engine started first time 8. Engine would not switch off - keeps running even when key is removed! 9. Had to stall engine in order to switch off 10. Car will not lock using the button on the key, need to use the key itself Would appreciate any thoughts from you knowledgeable people out there.

   We have a vw passat sport TDI 140 have just heard from the garage that the turbo we had fitted wasnt the whole problem we have been told that the engine is run on a chain and needs to be changed to a gear which vw only can sell and fit this is going to cost in the region of £2000 all in and then we still have the stering rack and a case of the 5th gear not working ?

  Hi, I have a peugeot boxer 2.2 HDI on a 2003 plate. The van was running fine, then for no apparent reason, showed the engine management light went into economy mode for a bit before locking up? I sent to a Peugeot specialist who hooked it upto a Peugeot computer and identified air getting in a pipe, but this was not the problem as soon after driving away it did it again!

   The DPF warning light came on last week and she followed the instructions in the manual to give it a run. This did not improve matters and a further warning light came on to inform her to contact a dealer.  She duly did this and was told the car required a service and oil change due to her having not driven enough miles.

  Hi, folks. My H reg Ford Fiesta, which itself is running fine, has just developed a problem with the driver's sidefoor lock.  The door won't grip closed when you shut it. I've taken the side panel off the door, and all the parts seems to be moving when I use the inside and outside door handles.

  Got a friend who is not very knowledgable on cars and runs an old astra, but maintains it as required. Not sure though if it would pass the mot due to age/wear related items, but booked discounted mot online , took car in and yes, it failed with £400 to put right.
