  • Ford Mondeo - 53 plate mondeo tdci smoking heavily & sluggish 24 May 2014 (Forum)
They then took the injectors off & tested them, 2 came back with a fault so they reconditioned them & cleaned the other 2, but this still hasn't fixed the problem& the bill currently stands at £500 plus vat & they don't know what it is but want to run more tests. Has anybody got any ideas.  I begrudge paying £600 when they haven't fixed it.
  • Shuttle 2.3LS - Honda 17 May 2014 (Forum)
This is a T-reg, so 15 years old now, but it's immaculate and goes beautifully, though it burns a bit of oil. It does local short runs 11 months of the year, but every summer we take it on a European road trip, and cover around 1000 miles in a month. It's let us down once only (in UK), when the alternator gave out. We had to wait some time for the same unit to be reconditioned as spares are not so available now.
  • Audi A4 Avant - Dented fuel tank 7 May 2014 (Forum)
Hi - mine is a 2008 model, a4 avant 2litre diesel. All running fine and done 75k miles. Cambelt was changed last week and the guy said there was a dent in the fuel tank, not huige but it had been mishaped. He suggests it may be a blocked breather. This would mean having a whole new fuel tank at £1100 inc labour,.

Have i got this right? Is this the best way? If so, are all bluetooth dongles good, or does output quality vary? If so, any recommendations? Gosh this 21st century is complex ...

  • Ford Mondeo Estate 2007 - Alarm sounding, could this be the culprit ? 26 Mar 2014 (Forum)
A couple of days ago I put a new head unit in and had to remove the flexible panel over the top of the pedals to run mic and aux leads. This necessitated the removal of the component as shown below. Since I did this,  the alarm goes off after about 25 seconds whether I use the key of the fob to lock it.

  • Citroen Picasso xsara 1.6HDi 90 HP - Negative battery wire bolted to the chassis 2 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Does any menber know where the negatve battery wire is bolted to the cahassis / body (battery is under passenger seat) .The positve wire runs under the floor and emerges at a terminal block under bonnet. But the negative dissapears under the floor, Heynes manual says near battery. not a lot of use as every where is carpeted and stuck downThe reason apart from curiosity is that I have had engine turn over problems and want to check for corrosion, I have put a heavty load on and checked for volt drop from battery terminal to engine block, but would still like to know where the bonding point is.
  • Renault Scenic - Water getting into one of the coils 12 Feb 2014 (Forum)
on the coil, I've read in the Haynes Manual that there should be an O Ring on the coils. Every now and again the engine runs off a cylinder, especially when it rains.   Is it just a matter of 1, Getting new coilor coil pack? 2, Asking in my local Motor Factors for an O Ring for the new coil.
  • Help buying used car 12 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Hi all –   I own a 3 year old Nissan Qashqai. I'd like to sell or part ex it for something smaller as it's just being used for school runs etc now instead of the longer work journey's it used to do. I've checked online and it looks like I could get anywhere from 9-11k for it. I'd like to keep hold of 5k and buy something else for around 5k.
  • 2002 Ford Fiesta MK6 - Fiesta overheating 20 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The heating inside the car works intermittently, with the fan on full heat it blows hot for a while then cold. When the engine has run for a while and warmed up the top pipe on the radiator is hot but the bottom is cold. Could this mean problems with the water pump, blocked radiator or faulty thermostat? I'd appreciate any ways to tests these separately so I can narrow this problem.
  • 2001 Mercedes Vito 110 CDi - Vito EDC light & limp mode, nothing on diagnostics 26 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Had the petrol cleared out (soon as i put it in) by a mechanic who isn't a computerised engine expert! Had 2 diagnostics run on it, one with merc diagnostics, only glow plugs show up. The glow plug heater unit has been disconnected. Mechanic said glow plugs irrelevant on modern vitos. How do I progress from here??
  • How to report a scam on Autotrader? 9 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Got an email back, written in illiterate English, claiming the owner is a Royal Navy captain based in Spain, who bought the Conti cheap from the NAAFI and has to sell it quickly because his six months without re-registration has run out! As usual, the car will be delivered to the UK and the money will be paid via a third party. Except it won't. Is it just impossible for websites to carry out any checks at all before they accept adverts?
  • Hyundai Getz - What to buy 8 Sep 2013 (Forum)
However as we are considering getting a cheap, small hatchback as a second car, I'm also considering the Kia Picanto 1.1 or a Hyundai i10. Both are cheap to run, tax and appear economical and might be more fun to drive than a Getz diesel. Plus many of the Kia's have lower mileage and still have a balance of their 7 year warranty. Another concern is that the Getz has been under used which is not good for a car.
  • Ford Fiesta 3dr Zetec 1.0 80ps (203 1) - Change of car ? 2 Sep 2013 (Forum)
The car I have been looking at is  Ford Fiesta 3dr Zetec 1.0 80ps  ( 2013 ) sales person tells me it is the new eco engine but not turbo no rd tax better on petrol cheaper on insurance . I would use it for shopping, running around  not  a lot of motorway . my problem is the car like the sales person says on what you get to the gallon is it nippy and I would have to take it out on options as first 2 years are low rates .
  • 2003 mercedes A class A170 cdi - Air bubbles in fuel line 25 Jun 2013 (Forum)
My wifes Merc has just started  cutting out or just will not start. It starts if given a blast of easy start  but this is not a solution. It may cut out after 5 minutes or it could run for a week without any trouble. When the problem occurs the clear plastic fuel pipe from the filter to the high pressure valve is just a constant stream of bubbles.I have replaced the filter and seals but the connector which connects the pipe to the filter is a pathetic flimsy plastic clip and only seems to seal if you push on it.At the moment it is held down tight with a couple of cable ties which seem to work ok, but I would appreciate comments from anyone who has or has had the same problem.

  • Peugeot 307CC 2.0 Litre 54 Plate - Peugeot 307CC secondary air system 12 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi I have engine management light on and car running rough until i drive to end of my short road in the morning and also car just scraped through MOT last week on emissions. The only fault code registered is P0412 So i think the problem could be non working secondary air pump or inoperative secondary air injection valve or a combination of the 2 !!
  • Peugeot 308 - Jump start: Negative terminal is not reachable 11 May 2013 (Forum)
Hi all, I have two Peugeots, 308 and 307. 307's battery is drained due to forgotten headlight. So I am aiming to run it by jump starting from 308. However, the problem is, the negative terminal of the 308's battery is not reachable. I can reach it by removing the red thing on top of the battery but I guess the car won't start before the jump start if I do so.
