Hyundai - Do I have to pay fir a test drive? 3 Nov 2022 (Forum)
I recently went to a Hyundai garage to look at some cars and basically let myself get pushed into considering a slightly larger type of car than I was originally thinking of I was told I needed to pay £99 to reserve a test drive for the following week. At home I was thinking about it and decided I didn't wantvto do a test drive on that car so I phoned the garage to cancel and could I have my money back please, in short I have contacted them three times by phone and once by email and they still have not refunded me. -
Mercedes e220d Cabriolet - Driving without a physical license 24 Feb 2022 (Forum)
The DVLA website shows a 10 week + processing time by which time my license will have expired. According to DVLA document INF188/6 I can continue to drive even though I will not hold a current physical license providing the DVLA received my application but one of the conditions is that my doctor must have told me that I am fit to drive. I can’t see my GP, I’m prevented from having a ‘phone appointment and the practice don’t respond to emails! -
Mercedes - Bald tyres=jail even if you weren't driving 23 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Henry Reynolds, 31, a father of two, was warned after an MOT test that his Mercedes’ rear tyres were near the legal limit but continued to drive a further 7,000 miles on them until the vehicle was involved in a fatal road collision in May 2018. An odd case involving "aiding and abetting causing death by dangerous driving" The original article was in the Telegraph but as that it behind a paywall I found another report:- https://www.mynewsmag.co.uk/behind-bars-driver-who-failed-to-replace-worn-tyres-sentenced-for-role-in-fatal-redbourn-collision/ -
Astra 2009 - Oil level low - can I drive four miles to buy oil 21 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I've ordered some oil to click and collect, but now I'm wondering whether I need to leave the car where it is and get someone out to top it up, rather than driving to the shop. I'm seeing lots of advice that when the oil level warning light comes on, you must pull over immediately as to carry on driving could cause irreparable damage to the engine. Thanks -
Changed To An Automatic Gearbox - Advice Required. 6 Feb 2021 (Forum)
From what I've read already, there's a difference of opinion with regards to the correct use of the N (neutral) and D (drive) gears. Should the neutral gear be used when waiting at traffic lights, or should you just leave it in drive all the time ? So far I've been keeping the car in the drive mode, but after driving an manual car for many years I have the urge to use the neutral mode especially if it's a longish wait at the lights. -
UK bans any use of mobile phones while driving 18 Oct 2020 (Forum)
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/oct/17/uk-bans-any-use-of-mobile-phones-while-driving I hold the phone in my hands whilst driving. I do use the phone for sat nav and sometimes for music (and occasionally internet radio). In my car, there is a place I keep it, but it is n't a dedicated car mount (I see to recall the phone had to be in a cradle). -
PX - Will the dealer test drive? 3 Oct 2020 (Forum)
My finance company is paying the dealer the full amount for the car I will be purchasing and the dealer will be sending my finance company the funds to settle my finance on my 2 series. Am I right in saying the dealer will usually test drive the car to value the vehicle to reach an offer. However in In this case the dealer has agreed a price and has been invoiced by the finance company and signed the documents. Will a test drive be necessary? -
Heavy traffic and - Smart motorway driving technique? 3 Aug 2020 (Forum)

Volvo XC90 - Car not starting on test drive 27 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hello Folks, In the market for a XC90 with a budget of up to 20K. Went for a test drive today to a Volvo dealer to try a 14 plate 36000 on the clock vehicle. The car won't start so they had to jump start it (took a few attempts), the car was then left running for 10 minutes before I took it for a 15 minutes drive. -
Any - Not Driving 20 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Since the idiot cyclist ran me over and wrecked my ACL I’ve not been driving. I’ve found that even though I COULD drive now I really don’t want to. The roads are full of the self-obsessed, each trying to score points off everyone else and with scant regard for speed lmits or any other motoring law as long as they think they can get away with it. -
ford galaxy - drive shaft nearside removal 2 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Helloim trying to replace the inside cv gaitor i have the drive shaft loose and it says using a lever carefully prise the inner joint from the final drive casing im a bit confused on what this means. Does the cv joint come out with the driveshaft and where abouts to lever does the casing split or do you prise it out from the gear box housing and are there any tipes on making this easier if its prising it out from the gearbox housing there are 3 different groves so not sure which one to try. -
Tbd - Best car for high mpg when driving at 85mph 16 May 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I do a 180 mile round-trip 3-times per week from High Wycombe to Birmingham with virtually the whole distance driven on the M40 at 85mph. This adds up to 30,000 miles of motorway driving per year. I currently drive a '98 Mondeo 2.0 which has 140,000 miles on the clock and is very reliable but only delivers 31mpg. That's a lot of petrol to buy every year. Any recommendations for the most fuel efficient car for my needs? -
Audi A6 Avant 2.7 TDI manual (Feb 2008) - Particulate filter warning light 22 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Not familiar with it I checked and it seems to be the particulate filter warning. The owners manual suggested driving at a motorway speed in 4th or 5th for 15 mins to clear the fault. It also states that driving for a(n unspecified) period of time could damage the catalytic convertor. The manual implies that it happens as a result of lots of short journeys, however I do a fair mix of motorway and town driving. -
N.E. France from 'above the Midlands'? 17 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Worst part of the drive is getting down England. Driving is a delight over there with large empty dual carriageways. The Weymouth to St Malo fastcats stop at Channel Isles and so no real benefit. Similarly the Portsmouth St Malo is overnight and tediously slow going round Cherbourg. -

Ford Focus - driving a diesel 17 Dec 2010 (Forum)
what is the correct way to drive a diesel? I always put the key in and foot on clutch and allow the lights to come on the dash and wait a few seconds for the to go out, always wait for the glow plus light to go off too in warm or cold weather. i tend to give it 10-15 for the engine to settle before i make my journey. -
MINI Countryman - Text & Twits on new Mini! 27 Jul 2010 (Forum)
As a motorcyclist I often pass people (mainly girls/young women) with a mobile glued to their hand and the ones that are busy texting often give themselves away by their driving style. I'm in favour of the death penalty for anyone texting whilst driving.
