  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2004 1.6 - spanner light on dash 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
(moved from a question that was relating to a fault with a diesel engine) I have a 2004 Vauxhall Zafira Petrol 1.6, last Tuesday, driving in to work I had to join a main road turning right across the carriageway and needed to put my foot down to get up to speed. Whn I did this the ignition electronics 'spanner' light came on and the engine lost a lot of power for a few seconds.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 TDCi poor start and flashing glow plug light 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Drive 60 miles home. Engine sounds okay, glow plug light flashing all the time, do not have 130 horses under the bonnet. Definitely feels like there is no turbo. Car cannot acellerate on motorway inclines.
  • Motorhome hire or not? 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Following a newspaper article we contacted a UK company who wanted people to go to Italy to collect their new fleet of motorhomes and drive them back to the UK on trade plates. As we have relations in South of France it seemed a nice idea. The new vans are to be collected mid-February and you then have 7 days to bring them back to this company's UK depot via whatever route suits you.
  • Motoring memories 21 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Some truly epic driving days in the Alps and Med coast with special mention to be given to the Verdun Gorges. Occasionally we would treat ourselves to a "posh" night in a decent hotel/restaurant and often arrived late with flies in our hair to be noticeably seated downwind from other customers !
  • Youths throwing rocks!! 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I think that it is a sad reflection of the youth of today that 1) They threw the rock in the first place and 2) They targeted a car with a woman driver and a baby in the back. I just dread to think what might have happened if my fiancée had been driving a lot faster and the rock went through the windscreen!
  • Recommend possible new cars for my dad? 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My 75 year old dad currently drives a 2.0 hdi Y Reg Peugeot 806. He is having problems with it that I will be posting in Technical shortly but I can see this ultimately leading to him having to change the car. He currently tows a caravan that he would like to continue towing but may accept that his towing days are behind him (he also has a static caravan on a site).
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - Battery light comes on despite three alternators. 1 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My Citroen Saxo has been driving me mad. About 5 weeks ago i started the car & the battery light stayed on. The light got brighter & i lost my headlights, radio, indicators, speedometer, petrol gauge, all the dashboard lights came (Air bag etc) & then the card just died & wouldn't start again.
  • B1248(Yorks) Heads up - Accident Blackspot 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I was travelling South, and, it has to be said, was fortunate (along with the BMW en suite to me) that the mobile unit attached to the camera was already engaged having stopped a 4x4 who I had seen earlier driving "vigourously". So good, old fashioned policing still takes place in Yorkshire: I had seen 3 traffic cars visibly parked up on the journey from Sutton bank already that day. I know the run to Helmsley is one of the best biking roads around, but, be careful out there, in all senses of the words, whether you're driving two wheels or four. -- Tim{P} ickle bit added to the subject line - PU
  • Car Tax/MOT problem 30 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I would really appreciate some advice on the legal implications (if any) of driving a car without tax/MOT to the garage to allow me to get the MOT and therefore the tax. Thank you in advance!
  • Long term seat comfort-how to tell? 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Just bought a new car and I'm gutted because its giving me lower back pain. How do you correctly set a seat base/driving position with the following adjustments: Fore / aft tilt - seat base / wheel Height Lumber adj Are there any consultants about that can set you up in your seat. Are there any comfort solutions?
  • Bizarre Accident Experience This Morning 14 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Driving into work this morning I was involved in an accident. I see that the Escort size van that is two cars ahead of me is braking sharply and the car in front of me probably isn't going to stop. I look in the mirror and see a Renault too close for comfort on a wet road and behind him a transit that is going way too fast.
  • astra dti loss of power steering 3 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A couple of weeks ago i started it up first thing in the morning and the battery warning light was on and as i moved away i noticed there was no power steering either, so i thought the drive belt had snapped, and drove it like this about 5 miles to our depot. When i got there i opened the bonnet, only to find the drive belt was fine and the alternator was spinning fine. I left it there for the day with the intention of looking at it later in the day, but when i went back to it the next morning i started it up and all was fine again, no battery light and power steering back as normal.
  • Dream garage with a twist 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Diesel for economy and less fuel stops. Maybe a driver to go with it. 3. A second hand A160. Nice high driving position, easy to park in the smallest space, and second hand to I won't cry over car park knocks and dings. 4. ML55AMG. 'nuff said. 5. V class. Loads of space for people or furniture. 6. Gotta be a "gullwing" but I'd settle for a "Dallas" era white SL like Sue Ellen's.
  • Proton Coupe 1.8 - Been Standing 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi All Before i start I'm a total car nut but no nothing about them mechanically and drive a Company Car so don't have to do anything on it bar ring the service dept. Anyhow I've been given a bit of an opportunity to take on this car for a drink basically to get it off someone's drive, the car is a persona coupe 1.8 on a S plate, looks good, a few dinks, starts 1st turn and goes well.

  • Park and Ride 26 Apr 2007 (Forum)
15 mins from the city centre and protected by bus lanes. At most times of the day it was quicker to P&R than it was to drive into the city centre. Although SWMBO regularly used the Norwich P&Rs, I admit that I rarely used them as I had an office parking space. Now that I?m commuting into Bristol, a place twice the size of Norwich, I?
  • BMW 316i - customer options. 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I bought the car from a dealer. When i went to view the car it had a full service history. I took it for an hour test drive and no issues arose. The dealer didn't disclose any issues with the car. So happy with it i paid a deposit and collected the car the follwing day. After 2 weeks of driving the coolant light came on followed by the oil light which were leaking I have been keeping the car topped up with coolant and oil until i could have it checked yesterday.
  • Seat Leon SE TDi 110 BHP Misfire 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
If I pull away from a junction and change into second I get a misfire between 1800 and 2000 rpm the engine/turbo makes an ?Err, Err, Err sound. After I pass 2000 rpm the car drives OK, if a little rough. I have found if I start the engine and rev pass 2000 rpm the car will drive smother between this rev range. I have changed the air filter, engine temperature sensor, fuel filter and the N75 valve.
  • The horn as a learning tool 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
If they drive solo a lot, your reaction could be the only hint they ever get that they aren't playing by the rules. Or should their behaviour go unremarked and their next piece of education be filling out an insurance claim form?
  • Ford Focus steering question 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have a new petrol Ford Focus 1.8LX with standard steel wheels. It has a fair bit of vibration while driving at anything over 55mph. This can be felt through the steering wheel and the steering wheel can be seen to shake at times. I've had the front wheels balanced and the car examined at a dealership and they did need to increase the weights and reposition them and said everything else was fine.
