New car petrol consumption 15 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Can I expect further improvement and, if so, up to what mileage? Is an improvement of 4 mpg between new-car-economy and run-in-car-economy a record? (I'm well versed in the methods of monitoring economy, so I don't want to start that thread again.) -
Water Leaks 19 May 2001 (Forum)
I have checked the sun roof by opening the roof and puting a hose pipe into the drain and left it running I have sprayed water into the fuel filler housing with the flap open and I have sprayed water along the bumper where it meets the rear wheel arch. The water is clean so I don't think it is coming of the road wheels Please can some one help? -
(very) short move. 8 May 2001 (Forum)
I assume therefore that if you do need to move a car (say on a forecourt, or out of the garage to clean/load it etc.) that you need to leave the car running for a time? How long then would suffice, safe in the knowledge that it will at least start up again? I often have to move my car simply to let a colleague extract his /her car from an adjacent parking space. -
306 TD somethings gone bang! 17 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I lost some power a cloud of smoke came out the back. Pulled over had a quick visual check everything seemed still in place and running. Started up the engine again big cloud of white smoke, pulled into a side street, now with blue smoke coming from the exhaust but not in large quantites. Depress the accelerator and I get a big cloud of white smoke the engine ticks over fine. -
BMW 328 coupe 11 Mar 2001 (Forum)
This made no noticable improvement so another replacement clutch was fitted. Unfortunately now it is nearly impossible to select first and reverse while the engine is running. I have done 2,000 miles since the engine rebuild and have had to top up the engine with a little over 1 litre of oil. Could you please give any thoughts on the clutch and is the oil usage normal. -
Life story of a car - Polo C 1985 23 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I put that down to the fact that the old Man was running on choke all the time on those short runs - but years after the car was gone - I got a sudden flash of insight when thinking about this.I reckon there was a petrol seep from the camshaft mounted fuel pump - into the rocker box. -
More on Hydrogen. 17 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Fuel cell-powered prototype buses are already running in some cities. DaimlerChrysler aims to be the first to the market with a fuel cell car based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which is expected to go on sale in 2004. Other manufacturers also have fuel cell vehicles in the pipeline. -
Peugeot 2008 1.2 EAT6 130 - 3 yr progress report 31 Oct 2022 (Forum)
6mm and 7mm remain on its Goodyear Vector4seasons. It's 6,800 miles since I changed the oil and filter on this carefully run-in potent little engine, draining it thoroughly and putting in exactly 3.5 litres of Castrol Magnatec stopstart 0-30 which exactly hit the max mark. Level is now 10mm below the mark. There's a surprisingly large distance of 40mm between the max and min dipstick marks. -
BMW 320D Tourer E46 Diesel 2002 reg - Crank but no start. 14 Jul 2021 (Forum)
A friend said it might be air in the fuel system with changing the filter etc, so he came over and removed the return pipe off one of the injectors while I turned the engine a few cranks, and diesel came spurting out under pressure, finally he sprayed some Easy start down the air inlet while I turned the engine and it started within about 4 cranks. So we let it warm up for about 30 minutes which it was running with no problems, however turned it off and attempted to start again, and back to square one, no start, started it again with easy start, let it run again for a while, then off, and again no start. -
No idea - Large load space for dog cage and other gear 14 Sep 2019 (Forum)
We don't need the 7 seats we have in the Alhambra, but it does need room for 4 adults in relative comfort. It must be petrol as we do lots of short runs (I've screwed up the DPF and Cat on our diesel Alhambra). Fuel economy is relatively unimportant. I value reliability far higher than looks, and with the exception of e-windows in the front I am not fussed about any gadgets. -
Ford Focus - Replace or Repair 25 Mar 2019 (Forum)
So on to the Focus, for the first 6 months the Focus was reliable but then in February 2018 I noticed it was loosing coolant, which is when the problems started. The water pump and timing belt were replaced (by an Indy) and since then the car hasn't run properly; it runs lumpy from cold etc. Fast forward to January 2019 and I set the car in to the dealers for a service (I used a Ford Authorised Repairer), 2 weeks after the service the EML came on and it turned out to be the EGR which cost over £500 to replace! -
Good lowish insurance group car for large young driver 11 Aug 2018 (Forum)
The time has come for my 22yr old son to run his own car due to starting a post degree new job. For the moment he will take on my owned from new 17 year old 126k miles Skoda Octavia that has been well maintained and is MOt'd until March but I'm not sure it will make it through the new test next year (EML issue - caused possibly by EGR etc - not affecting running or economy & minor oil leak) Budget - circa £5k and probably petrol So starting to investigate what next. -
Ford B-MAX - 1.0 Ecoboost B-Max as a second car - thoughts? 16 Dec 2017 (Forum)
We’re on the lookout for a second car to keep for the next 8-10 years, but with low running costs. In years to come it will probably also be used as a learner car for our children (currently 13 & 10 yo). Whilst most of its work will be local, it should be capable of the occasional 100-mile motorway run. -
Buying a Second Car? 22 Sep 2017 (Forum)
But ... then I considered buying a (relatively) cheap car,, taking the time while the jag is running to get my indy to service it and get anything needed sorted, etc., so it was ready when (not if) the jag is finished. Yes, there are extra costs in taxing and insuring two cars but these could be offset against the monthly cost (and depreciation) if I bought a new one. -
Mitsubishi L200 - New L200 Barbarian - rejecting under consumer act 29 Apr 2016 (Forum)
The boot is a large lift type and when it has been raining water collects on it. Opening causes the water to run off and soaks anything in the boot. The boot is water tight normally - the problem is when the boot has been opened. Obviously if the vehicle is used to carry paper records this causes a problem. -
Nissan Primera P11 2.0 TD SX - Nissan Primera P11 2.0 TD Fuel Pump Relay and Fuse 1 Dec 2014 (Forum)
No movement at all. I get 13.8 volts at the pump harness connector with the car running so that looks ok and the fuel gauge works. The voltage does not drop after a few seconds which I would expect. What is strange is I still get that voltage when I pull the fuel pump fuse? -
LPG - Don't bother 22 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Although gas is marked a full 9p cheaper a litre than other places , both stations were not selling it , the Shell had a fault and Sainsbury's had run out . My point ? this happens around 40% of times you need to fill with LPG - their planning / stock control is woeful. You cannot assume you will get the LPG when needed. Felt like smashing up the pump . -
Ford Transit Connect - Cooling Problems 25 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I noticed that all the pipes where hot apart from the pipes running to the expansion tank, I took the cap off the tank and it started to bubble out the tank with the pressure, the water in the tank was stone cold until the hot water bubbled up the pipes and into the tank and it settled. -
Audi A6 Avant - Used estate advice 27 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I know next to nothing about cars and we're also trying to save up some money to buy a house, so reliability and low running costs are top priorities. In addition, because the car will be mainly used by my wife to go to work and for school runs with my 2 kids, high safety standards are another top priority. In summary, I need something that has decent space for my two kids in the back seats, a reasonable boot space, safe, reliable and with low ownership costs…in other words what most dads want for their family. -
Espace 2.2Dci 2004 - Renault Espace Warning light after 45mph? 21 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I see in the manual it says electrical fault or water in the diesel pump but it has no affect on the running of ther car???? Everything works ok, nice mpg. When I turn the car off but leave the card in and restart the car, the warning light is still there. If i stay in the car, take the card out and reinsert it and start it up the warning light is there....
