Honda Accord Tourer Diesel: 20k report 13 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The British dealers have been good, and if you read the thread referenced above, Honda UK appear to take any problems seriously. The fuel consumption appears to be slowly improving, and the change of tires has removed the only minor niggle with handling. So overall, 9/10. Of course, if my minor problems are not resolved, I will seriously review that figure. -
For Volvoman 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
We tend to pit stop a good five times to relax and unwind, which probably adds well over an hour on top of what you would do if only stopping for fuel, but what?s an hour? Much better to relax and enjoy. Doing this, coming back we get to Brussels in one leg, which takes 12.5-13 hours each time, and during which we cover about 850 miles. That's still a pretty impressive 65MPH AVERAGE speed, including the pit stops. -
Vauxhall Astra 2.0 CDTi Diesel (2013) - Vauxhall Astra - acrid smell inside car 14 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I've done quite a bit to remedy this including having it taken off and cleaned out and having all the fuel injectors replaced for new ones. This has helped somewhat but the car has always had a tendency to smoke a bit out the back end and also smell. Not quite a typical exhaust smell but an acrid burning smell, so I assumed this was an issue with the DPF. -
TOYOTA ESTIMA EMINA 1996 - 96 Estima Injector spill control Electrical Fault 19 Feb 2024 (Forum)
(no diesel coming to the injectors) However,When i disconnect/Intercept the black wire (Earth which runs from the ECU)from the spill control valve and ground it directly to the body,it does not make the ticking sound eventually Diesel comes to the injectors(bleed) and the bus starts, but the engine revs itself up to 2000 RPMs with Diesel Knock and excess whitish smoke which i presume means excess fuel presumably as a result of the valve not being correctly controlled by the ECU.(doing so only opens the valve) I first suspected that the spill control valve on the new pump was faulty and swapped it with the one on the old pump but oddly also made the same tick sound.I also tried reconnecting the original injector pump and oddly the same happened which i found puzzling...I came accros a post in here from 2008 relating to a similar problem same Model and year but theirs never made the tick sound and it was resolved there was a faulty fuse\relay.I already inspected mine but still no luck. -
Peace of change 24 May 2023 (Forum)
I’ve flogged the HRV, took a tumble on it but that’s the norm in year one of ownership as you lose the dealers margin and vat and it’s too rich for me to sell from the door so it has gone to a local car buyer I’m friendly with who sells direct to trade for £800 more than WBAC offered. I’ll miss it, I really rate the wee car. It’s practical, lusty, great on fuel, utterly reliable and comfortable. It never put a foot wrong, other than the high level rear brake light mysteriously unplugging itself. I’m used to stretching out the battery on the electric buses I drive daily, but it won’t suit her leaden right foot driving style. -
The Internet - Automated Automotive Idiocy 23 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Arching can result in faster dissociation in the engine to generate larger injuries and destruction when this problem happens on a fuel gas cylinder, including acetylene" This is striking only because its so bad. Even the internyet is unlikely to be able to find much human-generated output of such abysmal quality, so I assume AI is involved, either in machine mis-translation, and/or actual generation of the nonsense. -
N/A - 22 and busy 19 Sep 2022 (Forum)
What he wants to do is spend about 5 or 6 grand all up on a cash purchase. His main criteria include - Loadspace Roof load space Sensible fuel economy Sensible insurance costs A reasonable level of reliability Capable of getting a bit muddy (but to be fair anything with the “right” tyres will cope) Not too tall, getting things on and off the roofs of tall cars is a pain. -
Car ideas? Family. Low annual mileage with long tr 6 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Must be getting old as I've been wondering about an estate car or even MPV, maybe. No diesels. Don't like the smell, or the fuel price, and don't do enough miles to care about mpg. Also doubt a diesel will have much resale value 4 years from now, as EV take-up is gaining pace. Plan is to get something petrol or hybrid that will be fairly low hassle/maintenance for the next 3-4 years, then I'll probably go EV (new) at that point. -

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer - BMW 225xe plug-in hybrid: owner's diary 1 Jul 2020 (Forum)
A full charge from 25% remaning takes about 3 hours from a standard 3-pin socket, costing about 80p. -- I can't make any sensible fuel economy calculations yet, as there's still more than half a tank of petrol to use up from when I collected it. -- the manual's running-in instructions say "don't exceed 4.500rpm until 1,200 miles have been completed", although the petrol engine hasn't actually started up for the past 3 days, so it may take me more miles than that .... -
Mazda 6 Tourer SE2 2.0 TD - Servicing my own car myself (at home) 7 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Also is it ok to clean mass air flow sensor with this fast drying solvent I have so I can avoid buying big bottle of special cleaner? I am also planning to replace air and fuel filter in near future. I was wondering if anybody of you guys can help me. What other components I can clean/repair/replace myself. I have many different tools which shouldn't really be a problem. -
What car should I buy? 12 Feb 2020 (Forum)
That's about it. As I say, speed isn't a factor, neither are looks. I just want a reliable, fuel-efficient, (boring), cheap car to get me to work. What do you guys reckon? Cheers! -
Peugeot 106 1.5d 1995 - Peugeot 106 1.5d 1995 starts, runs but cuts out? 12 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Oh we had a professionally reconditioned diesel pump when we first bought it so not that. I think there is a fuel pump in the tank from what I have read but don't know much about that, has never been done while we have had it. But can see bubbles on the clear pipe coming out of the diesel pump. Engine has done 230k but really has run a dream until now. -
FORD RANGER SUPERCAB 4X2 DIESEL, 2000 - FORD RANGER MK1 2000 MYSTERY PROBLEM 31 Jan 2019 (Forum)
A roadside technician looked at it today and said he thought the glow plugs were fine and that there is not enough fuel getting to the injectors - I am not sure about this diagnosis because it ignores the issue with the glow plug light which is definitiely related to the problem. Anyone? -
Ford C-Max 1.6 Petrol Year 2008 - Intermittent rough running / cutting out with EML 5 Nov 2017 (Forum)
I was driving in traffic the other day and had to stop, as I pulled away the car sort of stuttered and the engine gave the impression it was struggling for fuel. The yellow engine management light was flashing. As I looked for a place to stop it went back to normal running and the light stopped flashing. It was then fine the rest of the day. Then on Friday I had to drive home from Porthmadog to Rhyl and it ran faultlessly up the A487 and then the A55. -

They're not a bad option, but I don't know if I'd get back home if the weather went bad while I was at work A bit of background: I have a diesel guzzling Ford Mondeo MK3 Estate that I need to keep because it has enough space for my infant twins. This is a serious drain in insurance and fuel costs. It costs £60 a week in diesel, so if I can find alternative transport for less, that would be ideal. Alternatively, if I can make my car more efficient, that would be a fine option too. -
Honda Civic - Honda Civic Showroom launch 21 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I had expected to feel much lower in the new car as most reviews mention this but, at least in the showroom, it felt no lower. It certainly wasn't worth moving the fuel tank to allow the front seats to be lowered at the expense of the magic seats. Otherwise the cabin was a nice place to be and its a step or two up in apparent quality from the outgoing model. -
Help needed with prospective used car purchase 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Economy: Cost me less than £120 per month in fuel. Reliability: As I'll be funding the purchase through a personal loan (due to no equity in my lease vehicle) it needs to be able to last 5 years, and preferably have some resale value at the end of this. -
KIA Cee'd - feedback on reliability of high mileage ceed / i30 21 Nov 2015 (Forum)
So I am wondering whether it makes sense to go for the diesel model, despite my low annual use, to take advantage of; a) higher fuel economy b) lower car tax. Another point worth mentioning is that the car will only be used on weekend trips (say 100 mile round trips) during the summer months, while during the winter months it will be used for commuting to work (50 mile round trip).
