  • 206 Gearbox Woes 29 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Help and advice required. My little soldier has a 1999 S 1.4 GLX with 22,000 miles under it's belt and a full main dealer history. Last Thursday the gearbox threw a wobbly and now it requires a new unit. Peugeot UK are offering between 30%-50% of the replacement cost of the parts only.
  • How much is a Focus now at auction? 22 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I am looking for an early S/T reg Focus, a 1.8 Ghia Hatchback or Estate. What is the lowest price out there? I used to go to auction but havsn't been for months so no clue what others are paying. Also, I find the ones in Autotrader not that cheap.
  • Please help me with 4x4 query? 15 Nov 2002 (Forum)
She wants to buy a 4x4 but the fuel/mpg figures are quite shocking talking to local people with Range/Land Rovers etc. Could anyone tell me what 4x4's give the best MPG? Any websites anyone knows of would be very useful...cheers
  • Speedo digits ......... 15 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Hello all, Has anyone got any hints for spotting clocked speedos? I looked at a car today which read 43333 - with the 3's all perfectly lined up but slightly below the 4. In taking it for a 12 mile test drive the resultant number had the 3345 all slightly below the leading 4! I checked the service history and the car had been serviced @ 39204 miles - so the displayed milage was probably genuine.
  • Catalytic converters - do pre '1995 cars need them 3 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My '91 Volvo 940's Cat is fine, but when it's knackered do I need to replace it? Although my Volvo and many other cars were fitted Cats, I understand that due to delayed regulation, only cars registered after {around } 1995 need cats.
  • Discovery sunroof 22 Jul 2001 (Forum)

  • Rusting rear discs on 996s 12 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Has anyone heard of rear discs on Porsche 911 996 models getting so rusty they are u/s after a year and 10,000 miles. I've got a punter screaming blue murder about this and a copy of a Porsche TSB warning dealers to expect rusty rear discs, but not to replace then FOC under warranty. I strongly suspect the reason is that the anchors are designed to stop the car from 177mph and consequently don't self clean if all they have to do is stop it from city speeds.
  • Lexus NX - Dilemma 2 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Hi, I own a 2016 Lexus NX full service history so has another couple of years warranty cover. I’m now in my 70’s and thinking whether to keep the car beyond warranty or sell it and buy a 2 year old Toyota Yaris Cross that will have another 8 years warranty's. With the cheaper service plan, insurance and more miles per gallon it would save me £118 a month that would allow me to borrow the difference (with a little extra per month).
  • Dacia Sandero Ambiance 2015 - Headlight lens 29 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Hi, My Daughter managed to have a fender bender with her car. The n/s front wing is damaged at the front but can be fairly easily fixed. The headlight lens has a chunk missing from it by the indicator. so the question is...can the lens on its own be replaced. I have seen a number of headlights for sale on fleabay and it looks like the lens clips off. anyone have any clues as to if this is possible?
  • VW Caddy intermittent brake binding 28 Jul 2023 (Forum)
For a while now have been having this intermittent problem of the o/s front brake binding. Seems no rhyme nor reason for it and doesn't seem to need the brakes being used for it to start happening. I say this because the other morning I could feel it starting to drag about 7 miles away from home, during which (through a combination of observation, care and luck!)
  • Audi A3 Sportback - Audi A3 2022 Passive Misfire on all 4 cylinders 30 Jul 2022 (Forum)
Dealer can't replicate fault, so say its ok. I feel like I'm being fobbed off. Anyone had issues with A3's misfiring. Very p***ed as only 3 months old.  Any advice welcome, thanks.
  • Honest John Statistcs today's telegraph - German car reliabilty is a myth 10 Feb 2021 (Forum)
German cars in particular appear to be getting much worse, but what surprises me is how Renault have progressed from the worst to the best. Against the Toyota Yari s 2011 to date which has 21 letters of complaint, the Captur during the same period scores 19. Well done Renault , and that comes from someone who has consistently bashed Renaults and together with my partner took a risk on a new Captur 1.3 T based mainly on price!
  • Mazda 6 Tourer - Engine Malfunction 6 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I have read about similar issues that have proved to be blocked fuel filters or issues with Diesel Particulate Filter. Can anyone tell me if Mazda are taking the p$@s?
  • any - ?? Seven seats + petrol + automatic, under £ 25 Jul 2020 (Forum)
We really like the engines and reliability. The options for our rather niche requirements seem to be Toyota Verso or possibly a Ford S-Max. (I am not bothering to consider the Zafira.) Otherwise it's only a Mitsubishi Grandis which is rather old, or indeed an imported Honda, like an Odyssey (which drives very well.) She wants something roomy but not enormous, ie. not a Previa/Estima or similar.
  • Audi A3 Sportback - Buying a high miler A3 quattro - thoughts? 13 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Was thinking this 2.0 TFSI S line Sportback looked not too bad. Any thoughts on owning one of these that's getting on for 100k miles? I don't mind throwing a bit of cash at it for usual high milage stuff. More worried about how the engine, 4WD and major mechanical bits hold up over time.
  • All modern cars - DAB Radios and No CD players 11 Feb 2020 (Forum)
The loss of a multi change CD player is also sadly missed. Electric handbrakes come next on my list of pet hates along with DPF shananagin s now on petrol as well as diesel cars. Finally can we go back to dipswitches on the floor and indicator arms on the right hand side of the steering wheel ! PS I am sadly missing my Sony Trinitron TV with a square scree that I have recently updated
  • Peugeot 3008 - Fuel Consumption and Performance: 150 vs.163 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I'd love to buy the Auto/163 but cannot justify the hit that I'd take with the fuel consumption. Unless I'm missing something? S/H prices seem to indicate that the 163 is not so popular. I can understand why! Can anyone shed any light on this please? Really sorry if this is a stupid question or if it has been covered elsewhere.
  • Suzuki Splash - drive shaft seal leaking 10 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Took my wife's splash for the annual service and was advised rear shock absorber requires replacement but also that the o/s drive shaft seal is leaking and requires repair My wife has a friend with a similar agila and hers had to have a replacement gear box. Wondering if gear box problems are common on the splash and most importantly what the consequences of the drive shaft seal leaking might be, ie, what else should I check with this in mind?
  • Audi A2 - Car with zero depreciation 15 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Will probably end up with. 1.4 Tdi but don't like the idea of a thee cylinder engine which feels lumpy after my PD Tdi. Do the petrol S have a four cylinder engine ? And how does the 1.6 FSI. Compare with the 1.4 The panoramic roof seems a no go on replacement costs, but apart from bodywork repairs to the aluminium panels what are the other potential pitfalls ?
