  • Zafira B - Intermittent whistling noise on Zafira B 11 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Apart from the noise and pulling to the left. I have no other issues with the car. It starts first time, handles ok and fuel economy is same as always. I've had the car back at the dealers and they claim to have done a full diagnostic and conlcuded that the front brake plates were rubbing against disks.
  • Advice on which car to buy. 27 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I'm in this to save money - I need a reliable car which will give me trouble free motoring and be cheaper to insure and maintain as well as fuel. What can you advise?
  • Toyota Prius - Toyota Prius 3 test 25 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I apologise if anything I say has been mentioned before. I'm going to compare it to my own car which may not be fair. Fuel consumption Definitely a strong point. Driven at normal motorway speeds it averaged 56 mpg over 300 miles. My Mondeo would do around 35 to 37. I was driving at 75 indicated - the GPS showed the speedo to be over-reading by 5 mph.
  • VW Passat TDI - 01-05 Automatic Good/Bad Choice?? 23 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Both around 100k miles, both TDI and automatic Now the questions... Am I looking at the wrong cars here if im looking for a fuel efficient diesel automatic in and around the passats size. I have a good few of the VAG specific tools collected up by now so naturally VW is where I would look first, but I know absolutely nothing about automatics to be honest except that when they give trouble.... they take your wallet down with them...
  • All - 4 banger vs 6 pot. challenge 23 Jun 2011 (Forum)
The trouble is, apart from brief excursions of hard acceleration, it is impossible to run the engine at any appreciable load accept at very low RPM. Clearly having an engine spinning away at low load is inefficient and wastes fuel. This started a debate. For a given output in horsepower, which has the lowest NVH-a 6 cylinder at X RPM or a 4 cylinder at 1.5X RPM. To make things fair, the bore, stroke piston mass, conrod length, compression ratio and engine load were set to the same level.
  • Daewoo Lanos - Returning car 2 weeks after buying from trader? 13 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I stated as a dealer it is not only as 'seen' but as decribed by the dealer and he obviously ommited faults and also lied about power and fuel efficiancy!! It is now a week later, I have had no choice but to drive the car due to where I live and work and he is refusing to answer calls or texts. I am now going to return the car but want to know my legal standing before I turn up?
  • 2002 Ford Mondeo TDCI - Problems with Car since coming back from Garage 3 May 2011 (Forum)
We had a failed Injector in the engine and we had it replaced at a local garage at a cost of almost £300. When we got the car back boyfriend noticed that oil/fuel was leaking from the Injector and over the engine cover. Car went back to garage and they said they replaced seals. We checked the car again about a week later and the Injector was still leaking. Car went back to garage again, they had it for several days before we got it back but it was still leaking and we noticed that there was steam coming out from under the bonnet when we stopped.
  • Volkswagen Passat TDi - VW Passat Head Change problem 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi there Had a new head fitted to my 2001 VW Passat 130 TDi Sport last year and ever since then it's been really heavy on fuel and doesn't start as readily as it used to. I used to be getting high 40s on my commute to work and it's now mid 30s and that's with me totally changing my driving style and driving like a granny.
  • 05 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI (115) - Rough Idle 22 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Could this be related? Apart from the idle problem itself, nothing else appears to be wrong. Fuel economy is still good and there's nothing wrong with the performance, as far as I can tell. I did notice one thing when I had it up in the air recently. The front-most exhaust heat shield is missing.
  • Ford Fiesta mk3.5 - Ford Fiesta MK3.5 - won't start, click relays 16 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The car is a 1995 ford fiesta rs1800 (mk3.5), it's the facelift version of the mk3's, a few differences such as PATS, flap fuel cap etc. The car wouldnt start, so stright away i decided to do a good service as was about time, spark plugs, ht leads and ignition pack (it's a distributless ignition coil). Now the other thing i thought to check was the crank sensor (which appears fine).
  • Ford Focus 1.4 '04 - Ford Focus 04 Dashboard Problems 12 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Unfortunately, the problem is now permanent it seems and the symptoms are as follows:- - Temp/rpm/speedo/fuel gauges, needle at zero. - Warning lights (coil/door open etc) flash constantly on and off in a 2x2 or 3x3 sequence it appears. - When I put rear/front screen heaters on, it resets, sometimes after a couple of seconds, sometimes within a second.
  • any - used car problems 28 Nov 2010 (Forum)
From when I started driving in the 1970's car reliability was 1970's car reliability, but I have just bought a 2009 car for £7000 instead of its RRP price of  £16000 aginst a new car that was £12000 in 1992  (new to new prices) Bigger depreciation now on the korean, but far better equipped and also far better fuel economy than the honda engined rover from 1992. On the web forum I have found lots of good information on Dual mass flywheels, Particulate filters and driving style with both of these things on the car.
  • Renault Clio Diesel 1.5Dci 'Y' Reg - Renault Clio Not firing up; oil can warning light 9 Nov 2010 (Forum)
...I have correct levels of oil and have topped up recently, i have also checked the coolant and topped up there... I've been recommended REDEX as a first option before taking it in to the garage and just wanted to ask on here if anyone had any ideas all comments greatley appreciated Thanks Wil
  • Honda Civic or Skoda Fabia - Fabia Estate ('08ish) or '05 Civic? can't decide 5 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Things that are important to me: relaibility, ergonomics, thoughtful design, safety. Current car is a 1997 Saab 9000, lovely car but getting old and expensive on fuel.(even though it burns LPG, it only gets 23mpg when doing so) Any thoughts welcomed.

Hi, I currently have a 2002 Octavia vRS and it has served me well for the last 5 years but its time for a change and I need to save some money on the fuel bill at the same time as having something that is still fun to drive and practical enough for a growing family (1 baby so far another in a few years) so im looking at one of the below cars. Audi A4 2.0 TDI S-Line 140 or Golf GT TDI Sport 170.
  • Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi (2004) - Fusion 1.4TDCi injector seals leaking after repair 13 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Dear All, I have a 2004 Ford Fusion 1.4TDCi. I had a leak from the rocker cover gasket for a while which turned out to be a leaking fuel injector, when I took it to the garage they pointed out the "ticking" noise of the leaking injector. I thought it was oil initially but turned out to be diesel. It was actually leaking whilst under warranty but the local Ford garage informed me that "Gaskets were not covered", as I thought I had a rocker cover gasket leak.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Climate 115PS TI/VCT - EML and catalytic converter issues 16 May 2010 (Forum)
Apart from the EML being on, the engine seems to be running normally. Ford suggest that unspent fuel due to the misfire has wrecked the catalytic converter and possibly the upstream sensor(s). Cost to repair - another £1,500. Have had various alternative suggestions to replacing the converters like applying heat to burn out any residues.

  • Vauxhall Zafira A - Engine manangement light mystery 11 Apr 2010 (Forum)
So ...A friend and myself attempted to strip down the induction manifold yesterday (failed since we couldn't get the fuel lines off which were jammed solid - how is THAT done?!) but were able to get vast quantities of carb cleaner into the area immediately above the butterfly valves and by using a large bottle brush (the sort that can be used to clean animals drinking bottles) we were able to clean the gunk out .
  • UK Kia Sedona 2.9 TDi Year 2000 - Noisy engine and poor acceleration 3 Apr 2010 (Forum)
However, I still have a very noisy engine when it starts. This lasts for a few minutes. I have seen a drop in fuel efficiency and I still have the drop in power/acceleration. Also, the other day my wife was following me in her car and she said that black smoke was coming from the exhaust whenever I accelerated. Can anyone suggest a diagnosis?
