  • 2007 VW Sharan TDI - Petrol in diesel..already driven..worried 15 Dec 2013 (Forum)
They then add 10 litres to get started. Advised that if I had no current problem that I should drive till empty, change fuel filter and refill to brim.   *VW dealer advised, to bring vehicle in on flatbed. If not possible..then on no account should I restart again, but drain tank, flush fuel lines and change fuel filter.
  • Treating your car well - fueling 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I was wondering what peoples oppinions are on fueling up your car. I have limited knowledge but i see fueling your car with good fuel as beneficial in lots of way. I admit i have limited knowledge but surely putting good fuel in will help prevent long term damage or wear and tear on the mechanics; especially in diesels.
  • 6 drops of water 130,000 miles, Filters 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
But Fuel filters.... Amongst the many cars I have had 2 have been in the family long term. A VW polo bought in 1985 was kept for 16 yrs with me servicing it the whole time. I changed the fuel filter at the first year end, but from then on just looked at the flow.
  • Update on Supermarket fuel 22 May 2006 (Forum)
My son in law is back driving Texaco fuel tankers on nights after two years on car transporters. I asked him recently if Supermarkets had additives put in their fuel. His first response was no, they didn?t the last time he was working on tankers .
  • Ford Fiesta - Broquet Fuel Catalyst 27 May 2020 (Forum)
Unfortunately, the oil and motor trade have vested interests in bad-naming products that work well in increasing fuel economy and increasing the lifespan of motor engines. And the Broquet one does work very well, in my experience.
  • Astra J 2011 1.6 Petrol - Astra rubber fuel hose internal diameter? 2 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I have a leaking damper, that silver disc, before the fuel line enters the rail. I am going to cut it out unless anyone has a fool proof way of releasing the factory fuel line clips? I have purchased a brass double ended hose connector with an ID of 8mm, will this fit ok and will I get the hose over the barbed end with bit of lubrication?
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 06-04-2019 Part 1 1 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Re Premium fuels. “Particularly important with a Gasoline Direct Injected engine because instead of being injected over the inlet valves the fuel is injected directly so the inlet valves miss the detergent effect of the fuel and can become coated in carbon.”

  • 1997 VW Sharan 1997 1.9 tdi Auto - Fuel System 6 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Evening all, ran out of diesel on Tuesday, we put 2 gallons in, noticed and repaid chafted filter outlet pipe, and cracked injectors. Drove okay 23 miles back home. 9 hours later it wont start at all. On checking, wasn't getting fuel to the filter. Blew through pipes, checked fuse and tank pump connections, was able to manually syphon fuel up to the filter. Still no joy in starting tho. Is there a relay or 2nd fuse to find ? anyone else had similar probs ?
  • Peugeot 405 Turbo Diesel 1996 - Fuel delivery problem 5 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone assist? My 96 1.9L 405TD has recently developed a fuel delivery problem, the car suffers from fuel starvation when going uphill, it ticks over ok (once I get it started) and it revs up ok, but if I jack the front of the car up, it cuts out. There are no apparent leaks and I’ve run the engine straight from a can under the bonnet thus bypassing the primer in case of air leaks.
  • Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 08 1.4 mpg meter 24 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Over the years I have always kept a check on fuel consumption of my car based on trip mileage and brim to brim fuel usage. I continue to do that now with a 16 month old Jazz which I have just bought with about 6,000 miles on the clock. When I filled up today I worked out the fuel consumption as 44.2 compared to the computer read out of 51.1.

  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - Fuel filter and biodiesel 6 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I am just starting to introduce small amounts of "biodiesel" (retail quality recycled chip fat - not DIY) and want to keep an eye on the fuel filter (as I understand due to increased solvent capabillities of biodiesel I may need to change it after a few K) before I start putting it in greater quantities, hence 2 questions 1) Has anyone had any problems with running on biodiesel that I should look out for 2) Where is fuel filter and is it easy to access with limited tools thanks
  • Pug 306 fuel smell when running 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My daughter has complained that her 98 1.4 306 smells of fuel when driving and seems to need more trips to the forecourt. I have not been able to check car yet as she is some distance away. She has checked for signs of leaks in an around the engine bay with nothing obvious.
  • Startup technique: priming injectors 20 Mar 2006 (Forum)
P-reg Nissan Almeira. What's the correct technique for starting these "new-fangled" fuel injection cars? (I have previously driven carburettor cars). When I start up in the morning, I first turn the ignition half on for a couple of seconds. You can physically hear the fuel pump start up and send fuel to the front to "prime" the injectors.

  • '96 Fiesta diesel fuel pump 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I'd had trouble starting my car but now it won't start at all. We've changed the fuel filter and glow plugs but it still won't start as the diesel isn't getting thru'. (almost did with lots of WD40 sprayed on it) My friendly mechanic says that it is most likely the fuel pump and says it will need to get to a Ford dealer to repair.
  • Another VW Sharan Misfire 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My 1999 VW Sharan 110 bhp TDi (red i) has a misfire ('coughs' on acceleration). So far I have replaced/had tested the airmass meter; new injectors; new fuel filter; new battery; have had dismantled and tested the diesel fuel pump and as a last resort changed the fuel provider and used a fuel additive (the last being a suggestion of Honest John's). I am loathe to part with the car as it goes well otherwise - is there anything left for me to try or will I be coughing all the way to the dealer via the bank for a replacement?
