  I have recently partially lost the use of my left leg. Therefore I need to purchase a smallish car with automatic transmission, preferably a diesel engined one as economy is also a consideration. I hva looked at Opel/Vauxhall Corsa. Citroen C3. Toyota Yaris. Chevy  Aveo and similar cars. But looking on various forums it seems as though all references to smallcars with automatic transmissions seem extremely unreliable.

  The subject of Automatic v Manual has been raised on a number of occasions and it is simply a matter of personal choice which suits. I suspect that the majority, like me, drive manuals because an Automatic saps power, costs more to buy and you get a lower mpg.

  Three questions: Will the Mazda be very thirsty compared to my Nissan? Any history of problems with Mazda automatics? All considered, does it seem to be a reasonable deal? I'd expect to keep the car for a year or two until the price of post-facelift (2008-) Mazda 6 come down a bit. Many thanks in advance for any advice offered, John.

  We have just acquired a 2004 Mazda 2, 1.4 with, what the handbook describes as, semi-automatic transmission. It obviously doesn't work like a conventional automatic and I am curious as to how it does work. I have ransacked the internet and can find no technical information on it whatsoever.

  Hello   I was thinking of getting a second hand Audi. But I have heard the automatic gear boxes can be a problem, and very expensive to fix.   Anyone have any real experiences of these automatic gearboxes. Considering A4 A6 A8 How would you be able to detect an early problem on a test drive?

  I see that the specification and prices for the upcoming Civic have now been released on various websites, but I am surprised that there appears to be no mention of an automatic gearbox on the diesel models. I'd have thought that these economical new diesel engines would be crying out for an automatic box. Does anybody else think that this is a serious omission by Honda?

  Got a problem with loss of power and revs when the engine is cold. It feels like automatic choke cutting out too early and engine is short of fuel. It never happens when the engine is warm just when cold. Any ideas? I don't even know if cars still have automatic chokes

  Anyone else driven this with the 7 speed auto box...? Somehow it keeps going into 'M' (manual..?) mode where it is very reluctant to change gears automatically. Moving off from rest you hit the red line before an automatic gear change occurs. I like the idea of semi-automatics - automatic with 'manual overide', but I don't see the point of M mode..

  Has anyone converted an automatic mini to manual? My son's K reg. automatic failed and we've been quoted around £700 to repair, the cheaper option would be to fit a manual engine/ gearbox unit out of a mini or possibly a metro, apart from the obvious need for a clutch pedal is anyone aware of any problems I could expect while carrying this out?
