Got a problem with loss of power and revs when the engine is cold. It feels like automatic choke cutting out too early and engine is short of fuel. It never happens when the engine is warm just when cold. Any ideas? I don't even know if cars still have automatic chokes

All cars are now fuel-injected and, as such, no longer have chokes. They use a coolant temperature sensor to tell the ECU to adjust the fuelling when cold and that sensor is the most likely source of the problem.

the temp readout on the dash looks ok, but could that be misleading?
|
Yes, that is probably driven from a different sensor to the ECU.
|
any idea where I get one from other than the dealer? I tried GSF car parts but they don't do them for a 2004 model

Finally sorted by local Garage, faulty Lamda sensor that gave occassional emissions warning light. They were sceptical it would sort this out but when they changed it the problem dissapeared. Cost £160 to get fixed with original parts.
