  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 04 1.9 Aux drive belt idler pulley or viscous fan 27 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The cambelt and kit of parts were replaced last year, but the garage didn't replace anything to do with the aux drive belt (no reason to I guess and I didn't ask them to). So, what experience does anyone have with either of these items? Obviously replacement is expensive as the front has to come off the car (again!!).
  • Cable Vs Fly by Wire Throttles 9 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I am sure most people here drive modern cars with Fly by Wire (FBW) throttles. What do people think of them? I have rather negative views of FBW.... My experience of driving modern cars with FBW has been limited to hire cars such as Astras, Vectras, Focus etc...

  • DVLA - Migraine a Notifiable Condition? 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I informed my boss that it was, in fact a migraine and not simply blurred vision and that I would be fit to drive on Monday morning but he has said that he wants me undergo medical tests and to obtain a report from my GP stating that I am fit to drive a PCV before I can start back. I've rung the medical department of the DVLA and they say that I'm fine to drive a PCV and have made a note on my records.
  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 02 1.25 Overheating and no hot air!! 5 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Anyway they carged me just under a hundred quid for sorting that, putting some coolant in etc and the problem went away... until today. Between then and now I've put a few thousand on the clock, including several 5+ hours drives in one go and had no overheating problem. So after this happened today I rang a different local garage, again on a freinds reccomendation. They have said that I have likely warped the head gasket through driving with the needle in the red etc.

  • Blew 123mg breath-Caught drink driving.[Read Only] 11 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I realise it's my own fault, but am really worried that this mistake is going to turn my life upside down? No previous conviction, driving offences and thankfully nobody was injured. It was simply a routine stop and a Drink Drive charge. I really cannot apologise enough! Any advise and help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Link.

  • Loses Car For No UK Licence 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
They were tested and found to be too dark so a prohibition notice was issued to the driver. "When asked to provide his documentation, it was discovered the driver did not have a full UK driving licence and was advised to arrange removal of the car. "As he could not arrange this, the car was removed under Section 165 of Road Traffic Act 1988."' He has been in this country for several years and has been driving for all that time.
  • Need short term off-the-road insurance 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I will be picking it up next week, and it comes with 1 week's free insurance which will allow me to drive it home and put it on my driveway. It will remain there for about 3 or 4 weeks, until my friend's schedule allows it to be collected, and that point she will be able to switch over her own insurance to cover it, and drive it away.

  • Mercedes Benz - 1998 24 intermittent failure to move when in D or 5 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hard to tell 'cos traffic quite heavy. Another 2 miles to home - but when I slowed to park in a space, forward drive failed - lever in drive but no forward motion when foot on gas! Put in reverse - same thing - just rolled foward (parked on slight downward slope). I moved slector lever forward and backward - still no movement, but engine was reving OK - I didn't rev too hard as cars were in front and behind and I didn't want it to suddenly leap forwards.
  • How far ahead do you look when driving? 7 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A couple of weeks ago, I made a remark to my passenger that when driving at night, "things" in the road give rise to the biggest danger. This is born out by all sorts of incidents - pile-ups, collisions with pedestrians and other debris. In my opinion, the very vast majority of these incidents are the drivers fault.
