  I commute about 40 miles a day and don't use it for short journeys so it should have ample time to charge the battery. I replaced the battery and alternator about 18 months ago but it's showing all the symptoms of a battery that won't hold enough charge. For instance I parked up last night after a 40 mile journey.

    Just some extra info that may be irrelevan but when i use the electric windows they seem to be going a little slower than normal and finally if i park the car and then use the radio or cd player while the engine is off, even for just a minute or two, the engine will not start again next time as the battery will be flat?   Is this problem the battery or something else?   Cheers

  Hi All I would really appreciate some advice, last night while driving home my battery light started to flicker and my headlights went really dull then bright again all the way home. When i got home i stopped the car then started it again and it started no problem so i must be getting some charge through to the battery.

  We bump started it (instantly fired up to the relief of the CAT no doubt) and off we went. It started fine the rest of the day but whilst out I bought a new battery at Halfords (£60). Fitted the new battery this evening and it started fine, but sounded no different turning over to yesterday. I am not convinced it was the battery? Wife now confesses that two weeks ago she used a pump plugged into the cig lighter to blow up our kids' paddling pool - and left the ignition on 'for a while'.

  I've recently bought this car and as i still havent managed to pass my test yet :-( the car is off the road alot unless i have someone to come out with me. The problem is that recently the battery went flat, i recharged the battery BUT eversince i refitted the battery i am unable to turn the alarm/immobiliser off the car, so whenever i A) get in the car the alarm goes off and B) if i try to turn the engine over the immobiliser kicks in and HEY PRESTO!

  The previous owner hadn't done any mileage in it for some months and was finding he needed to charge the battery every few weeks because it was running down. I guess this was due to the drain from the alarm system. Well, since we've had the car we've done less than 50 mils and much of that has been learning - stop/ start/stall/restart etc. and the battery is absolutely fine.

  Hi, I have a 2004 (54) Ford Fiesta and the other day the battery gave out.  I was driving home and the battery light popped on and then all the dials and internal electrics failed.  Managed to limp to a well known chain who promise to fit things quickly and they replaced the battery (it was only giving out 8V).

  How reliable are the Battery Hydrometer testers in testing car battery cells ?? I've just tested my recharged overnight battery & the results don't always seem consistent. The tester has 3 ranges: Good/Fair/Recharge At first tester showed 2 Good cells, 3 Fair, 1 Recharge Later on it showed 1 Fair, 5 Recharge I tried number of times, made sure the rubber was sealed around glass.

  Is my battery failing? I have a Varta 3 years old (OE) I cannot get it to more than 12.5v on a charger, or after a 50 mile daylight run.   (I understand that fully charged it should read 12.66v) I have checked the alternator and that is charging correctly.

  I know that is a stupid question but where is the battery located, reason I have a flat bettery and need to charge it but nothing in owners manual about location. and when you lisfty the bonnet everything has a cover on it and do not want to remove wrong cover.

  Apparently, whilst my car was being defrosted this morning - engine running, heater blowing on full, the battery ran flat and the car stopped. Jump started, and now running. Anybody ever heard of this happening before?

  I currently have two identical elderly cars in my driveway. One has a 092 battery, the other an 097. I have googled and done a search here in an attempt to find out more about what the numbers mean without much luck. So, is there a table somewhere that gives the attributes of the various numbers, or are they not set in stone?

  Help.... Pulled up in the drive today with the wifes maestro Turbo Diesel. Taking the key out the red battery charging light remained on. RE-starting the engine and it goes out as it shoud. Turning the ignition key to position 2 when it should remain on with all other lamps it goes out.!!!! Any ideas ?????

  Whilst driving my clio at night the stop light and battery light flickers on and off, its sometimes that quick that if you blink you miss it. its also doing it during the day but not so noticable. I have taken off all the earth to body & body to engine cables and cleaned them thoroughly. also ther area that they bolt to as well as the battery terminals. therefore I am now confused as to what is causing the lights to flicker. can anyone throw any light on this or has someone experienced the same thing.

  hi, i have an 06 vauxhall vectra c est that has an odd problem, car runs fine no battery probs etc, then every few days it will just not turn over, like a flat battery , just a clicking sound, but there is power everywhere, it used to start after a few turns of the key, but now when it happens it just wont start or turn overt at all, had it jumped from leads and started fine and today i had it pushed and jumped it ok , confusing me as ive checked the battery connections and battery earth etc, any ideas???

  Dear Members, I have just bought a 106 from my aged aunt who had not run it for about 8 weeks. It started first time when I tried it. 3 days later without use the battery was flat. I have repaced the battery but there seems to be an excessive drain from somewhere as it goes completely flat in a couple of days. It is as though a switch or something has stuck open when I started it after the long rest.
