  Who has a second vehicle for winter use or other rough/demanding conditions/situations? I'm interested in hearing from those who have, what you bought and the reason. Driving around this time of year, I have seen quite a few Land Rover Series and Defenders on the roads that are not normally seen during summer (around here anyway).

  During a drive to Bury St Edmunds on the A14, I've noticed some digging up and laying of some purple pipes on the embankment/road side, that re-surface every so often (probably inspection holes or somesuch), but these seem to have been installed from the M6 junction in recent months.

  My ignition warning light only goes out over 2500 revs and comes back on again under 2500. Do you think this more likely to be due to a slipping drive belt (there's no squealing) or an alternator fault? Thanks

  Hi Ford Focus Estate, X reg. Gearbox just gone sloppy and stuck in 4th. Clutch seems OK, I managed to drive it back. Lever will move easily forward and back but not side to side. Any advice on the best place to start looking. Thanks

  But the Torygraph carries this morning news that we may be prosecuted for sitting in our cars with the engine running. For male drivers, I feel driving without wearing a necktie is particularly reprehensible. What other crimes, at present unpunishable, do posters feel should be include in proposed legislation?

  hi my scenic has developed a loud humming noise once i i around 55mph, the car starts ok, drives well until i increase the speed, there is no smoke but the car vibrates

  Hi my car cut out while driving and will now not start the engine turns over but will not catch I dont think it's fuel blockage as there was no choking before it stopped it briefly started but as soon as i drove off the engine died has any body got any ideas thanks

  Label on top of engine said HDi 16. Is this a 1.6l? If so it went very well. The car was pleasant to drive but the large fixed steering whel boss was a bit too much like this dashed keyboard...

  recently bought new i20 classic, on test drive doors locked automatically as i drove off which i was told was standard , but my car hasn't done this. Phoned dealer they don't seem to think that classic has this option and are getting back to me.

  I am about to change my vehicle to a new diesel automatic with a raised driving position for ease of access and I am considering a Diesel 180 SE B- Class !! what are your opinions on this vehicle and any known problems {Typo in header amended}

  I've got a 2.0 (90) SW and think I'm probably only averaging 45mpg in what I would consider to be quite fuel efficient driving and journeys. I was expecting 50mpg ! Is this normal?

  Hi, when I turn my wheel to the left I get a knocking which sounds like its coming from the steering column, any ideas? had brake pads and disc replaced so not them! no play in steering wheel and drives bril apart from this knocking. Lorraine

  In Swansea this morning saw a reasonable looking Triumph 1300 in traditional 1970's brown parked at the side of the road outside a Toyota dealer, what was surprising was that I then saw a Toledo (the car that followed the 1300) driving the other way about 20 seconds later, maybe there's less rust in South Wales.

  Lord Ahmed has been sent to jail for 12 weeks after admitting to dangerous driving. He'd been sending and receiving texts minutes before he crashed into a broken down car on the M1 and the driver was killed. 12 weeks? Doesn't seem very long to me. Not much of a deterrent, either.

  my remote alarm is faulty and i need to swich it off so i can drive the car. i am led to believe that it can be done via the keyswitch under the bonnet. can anyone describe the keyswitch and where it is located under the bonnet thank you

  Hi, My peugeot 206 has a knocking noise when the accelreator is released. When driving it is fine. If i coast in neutral there is no noise and when the clutch is dissengaged the noise is reduced greatly. Anyone have any ideas? Regards, Mike

  Having trouble with my 1997 1.3 Endura Fiesta stalling everytime I come to a stop. Engine runs ok when going and drives well apart from the stalling. Think its the idling speed but don't know how to adjust. Can anyone help?

  For the first time in 35+ years of motoring, I saw a group of young teenagers running across a motorway yesterday. I was driving west on the M65 near Blackburn as darkness fell, when 4 youths in dark clothing ran down the embankment, nipped across 3 lanes, then waited between the barriers before (presumably) continuing their journey.
