hi my scenic has developed a loud humming noise once i i around 55mph, the car starts ok, drives well until i increase the speed, there is no smoke but the car vibrates
|
thanks for telling us that lala
but im not listening
got me fingers in my ears due to the bad wheelbearing see
ooh was that our wheel just come off.............................................
|
|
wheel bearing were checked on the MOT last week, all ok?????

Wheel bearings won't cause vibration unless they are very badly worn, niehter will they show up on an MOT because the tyoe of wear, usually failure of the case hardening, cant usually be detected by rotating the wheel with no load, it could still be a wheel bearing however. It will usually be worse cornering in one direction than the other if it is a bearing.

Hopefully not an engine mount.
Check all the tyres and wheel nuts, look for problems with the tyre (inside wall as well, loose wheel nuts, missing balance weights.

As Peter says, a good pointer for a wheel bearing problem is a noise that gets louder or deeper in tone when cornering, as the load increases on the affected bearing. Note which way the steering is pointing if this happens, and the affected bearing will be on the opposite side of the car.
I think I have the beginnings of a similar problem on my S60, but no discernible play at all.

>>the affected bearing will be on the opposite side of the car.
I used to think that, until I needlessly changed the wrong front one.
I now very carefully check both sides for play.
