  • Volkswagen Golf V estate (2007 - ) - - first impressions 29 Sep 2007 (Forum)
So with very little delay, as there was one with parking sensors in the VW system, a VW Golf estate 2.0 TDI replaced the B-class last Wednesday, with not a wet eye in the house. So far so good - very good. Best things - Even from brand new, there's plenty of response to the accelerator.
  • The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 15 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
So it surprised his neighbours when police pulled up on his drive in July with an arrest warrant for non-payment of speeding fines. He has made four court appearances in less than three years and he has accumulated 26 penalty points on his driving licence. ?I am an ordinary man who is being criminalised,? he says. For years, North says, he has driven with an unblemished record.
  • Don't try this at home. 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
%^%&ing hell ! No oil. Dad arrives, start it up, it sounds a bit lumpy and then ticks over fine nicely on a blip of the pedal, smoke everywhere. I have a pint of the usual oil in the boot for top-ups and we decide to pour it in to at least get something in there. Start it for a while to get it around the engine.

Of interest to me is that there are 2 payload options with the van, the higher of these, 750kg, would suit me fine. And whilst it also is not something you would ever choose to have an accident in, current models do at have ABS. So, at least in theory, you have a better chance of avoiding an accident!. Thanks
  • Buying My First Car - Need Advice 26 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I know oil leaks are usually a instant no go.. the engine cap having a mayo like substance usually means the head gasket has gone etc.   If the car runs fine and has no knocks or bangs coming from the engine, no smoking and seems completely mechanically sound.. then how much do you guys think I should realistically pay?.. seller has it listed at £1495.
  • Audi A3 - Second hand car troubles - rights? 1 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Sunday July 22nd I bought an Audi A3 (2006) for my pregnant wife to use as her family car when the baby comes later this year. 63,000 miles (petrol) and we paid £4,100 cash. Car drove fine in test drive, no problems mentioned by the dealer. During the drive home the ESP light came on fleetingly and my wife said she felt like she lost power; I spoke to the dealer and they said it was likely as the car had not been driven for a while and it was blowing the 'cobwebs out' (I realise how ridiculous this may sound to people who know about cars; I am unfortunately not one of these people). 2 days later the car has lost power again when my wife is parking, she has pressed the accelerator and it has lurched toward (it's an auto) causing the door to be scratched/dented slightly.
  • BMW 3 Series Coupe - 2007 320d E92 - engine shaking/ loss of power 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I've only had the car for a couple of months now and a few weeks ago the battery decided to die only a few hours of being parked up, so it was jump started with another car and since then the car sounded like a tractor. I took it to a BMW specialist who adviced me not to drive it and bring it to him the next day to have it checked out.
  • Pensioner Leads Police On 27 Mile Chase At 10mph 9 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Barry Wheatcroft, chairman of the bench, disqualified Turner from driving for 12 months, fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 costs. Mr Wheatcroft said: "The safety of the public is paramount and your driving yesterday was a demonstration of driving which was careless bordering on dangerous."
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.8 Alarm may have killed car 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I parked the car at work this morning and about half an hour later the alarm went off - for the first time ever! I then had to deactivate it a number of times and through various combination of pressing the interior sensing button and deadlocking/not deadlocking I managed to silence it.
  • Mazda 3 - Mazda 3 (2013 on) - your opinions please 28 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Wind and road noise... mixed reports Steering feel - mixed reports again, although complaints seem in the minority Electronic service records... so what happens if I want to sell, or go independent for servicing? So I thought, who better to ask than the fine folk in the HJ forum, especially those (hoping there will be some) who've lived with the latest 3 and probably know it inside out by now.  Any views on that little lot?  How have you found running costs, performance, dealers, body quality, space, visibility (parking especially), ride, steering, noise levels and not least, reliability?
  • Lexus RX400h - RX400h owner's review for gordonbennet 20 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Reversing lights are awful, I’ve replaced them with LEDs which means the parking camera is now useful at night – but the electrical noise from the dodgy Chinese LED's means I have to turn the wireless off when reversing to avoid a blast of white noise! Good/Bad?
  • Audi Q2 - first 1,000 miles 25 May 2018 (Forum)
And there's an indescribably good feeling that never again will I have to reach for the parking brake down by my right knee.  I still prefer a manual handbrake, but this one comes on and off automatically when you stop and start, and is doing its best to convert me. It's mostly very well furnished inside, although the door cards feel hard and basic, with a fine high driving position and very supportive seats.
  • Any - Cars for tall people (6' 4")? - and my experience. 26 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I have the seat as far back as it can go but my legs are still very much bent when pushing the pedals down. The headroom is fine but my legs (knees) have to go around the steering wheel and then my shins angled back into the pedals with my feet angling outwards. All this puts much stress on my legs and it is causing my right knee to click often.
  • Will need a 'station car' car soon... 15 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Let's paint the picture. I am a private owner and currently run a 3L Petrol Jaguar XF. It is Quite a Fine Motor Car and I do about 10k/year. From next year, my office will be moved to a city centre location, so rather than driving the Jaaaag to the office I will be going in on train. The train station is 5 miles away from my house.
  • DPF Filters - Just how bad are they? 14 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I get the impresssion that I would need to take the car (assuming I was to buy a DPF diesel of course) for a good blast up the motorway in order to give the DPF chance to clear (which is fine so long as it's guaranteed to do the trick) but does anyone have any clue with regard to how often and how long for? i.e. would I need to do it every week/2 weeks/monthly or what? (or does it depend on the model of car in question/ the distances I drive?
  • Lamborghini factory tour 25 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Due to a rubbish Sat Nav app, I took a wrong exit off the Autostrada near Modena so arrived late.  However I and told them.  Not only were they fine, they laid on a private tour for me and my two boys.  It was well done, with examples of cut away bodies in white and engines in small display areas, showing how the main elements are built up, and then we were shown around the two lines for the Aventador and Hurucan.
  • A year with the Jaaaaag 12 Aug 2012 (Forum)
When I bought it the Sat Nav thought it was on the M1 all the time but that has been fixed and works fine. I've done almost 11,000 miles in it taking its total mileage up to 68k and it's been completely trouble free. No knocks, rattles, rumbles or anything. Everything works, started first time in sub zero temperatures and feels very solidly built.
  • Toyota Prius III (2009 - ) - Impressions of the new Prius 29 Sep 2009 (Forum)
When ordering my elder daughter's fourth Toyota Yaris, I was looking over the new Prius and was offered a test run in one - a fine example of long-term thinking by the salesman at the excellent Octagon Toyota in Bracknell, as he knew I have a new Skoda. His reward is that I'm happy to tell anyone how impressive the new Prius is.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 2.0 HDI With Zero acceleration 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I'll start from the beginning and try to put as much info as possible. I started the car up one day and it was fine, then drove it 10 meters slowly in a car park and the engine tone changed. I put my foot down to accelerate and it had no power then the ecu warning light came on. It starts and revs when stopped perfectly.
  • Mitsubishi L200 pickups (2000 - 2006) - How to replace a pickup? 23 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Budget should be circa £17k, mpg doesn't matter, but practicality, real life reliability, and any info on ownership / dealer woes are welcome. Happy to purchase new, but at the miles I'll be doing, suggestions up to 12 mnths old are fine. Can I have the best of all worlds in one of these cars?
