    Early entries include a 1922 Blue Label 3.0 litre Bentley with VDP body and factory fitted front brakes (they were optional in 1922); a 1937 Aston Martin 15/98 Bertelli bodied 4 seat tourer; a 1936 Lagonda LG45 tourer; a 1923 Austin 12/5 Harley all-weather coupe; and a 1915 Ford Model T speedster.     ABS, EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), ESP (electronic stability programme), CBC (cornering brake control) and TCS (traction control system) are all standard kit. The new petrol engines are all lightweight aluminium turbocharged 2.0 litre jobs, but badged 1.8t, 2.0t and 2.0T to differentiate their SAAB Trionic 8 managed power outputs.

    The fully seam-welded shell is fitted with lightweight panels all round, foam filled fuel tank and twin pumps, Aeroquipe fuel and brake lines throughout and a custom-built wiring harness, with all circuits being individually fused in the cabin.     .  I have now pulled it out of the shed and a taken it to a small local garage who purport to be specialists in classic cars and asked them to renew the battery, change all the fluids, free off anything that needed freeing off and overhaul the brakes.  The bill came to about £4,000 with VAT.  That was last autumn and I have just taxed it from the 1st April. Q1: I am now driving it again and find the brakes very spongy and lacking bight.

    In celebration of Ferguson Formula Developments’ pioneering four-wheel drive and ABS braking innovations, the first all-wheel drive Formula One car will lead a convoy of FFD cars through the Grand Avenue. The 2.5-litre Ferguson P99 F1 car made history when it was driven to victory by Sir Stirling Moss in the 1961 International Gold Cup at Oulton Park.

    A very interesting highly modified late entry 1952 XK120 FHC with all round disc brakes and a 5-speed transmission estimated at £68,000 - £76,000 failed to sell at £60,000.  A 1959 XK150 S DHC estimated at £65,000 - £85,000 sold for £85,000, but a rarer 1958 XK150 3.4S roadster estimated at £110,000 - £130,000 failed to sell to a top bid of £85,000.

    This MGB GT-based car featured a wealth of innovative features, including airbags (which worked in combination with passive seat-belts), anti-lock brakes, AP developed no-roll suspension ( detailed here ), impact-absorbing side-panels, and a rather curious roof-mounted rearview mirror which afforded the driver a 120-degree field of vision.

    The body and chassis were restored, the running gear was adapted from XJ40 and every aspect of the ride, handling and braking were brought up to modern standards.     Entrusted to Graypaul Nottingham on 24 September, 2018, for a thorough service, Chassis 07420 also had its fuel system flushed, brake system fettled and cylinder head gaskets replaced (the latter an engine out job). The work was completed at 9968 miles and cost £14,091.76. Now showing just 10,000 warranted miles to its odometer, the Ferrari has never been allowed to deteriorate to the point of needing restoration.
  • Hugely Varied Entry to Historics September 23rd Classic Car Auction 12 Sep 2017 (News)
    If that's a little too quick for you, Historics also has a 1927 Austin 7 Chummy, Britain's answer to the Model T Ford, about a third of the size, and the first mass-market car with a conventional pedal arrangement of clutch, brake and accelerator in that order, left to right. This charming Ausin 7 with bulkhead mounted headlights is estimated at £10,000 to £14,000. More exciting: a postwar amalgamation of English special building and Mercury V8, the 1947 Allard M-Type DHC.

    As was that of Robert Dyke, who just managed to tame the awesome ‘Whistling Billy’ steam powered racing car from 1905, with a potential top speed of 130 mph! Sliding through the corners in a car with wooden wheels and nothing much in the way of brakes provided a lovely contrast to some of the more ‘modern’ machinery, albeit still 50 years old! Event sponsor, Julian Bronson of Bristol Forklifts, couldn’t resist pushing his 1960 Scarab Grand Prix car almost to the limit and admitted he had been driving ‘about nine tenths’.
