The Last 'As New' MG Rovers?

Tue, 11 Dec 2007
BCA offers a very rare opportunity for MG Rover enthusiasts when it offers three 'as new' examples from the manufacturer's 2004 range at the Blackbushe auction centre on Friday, 21 December.

Freshly registered on 07/57 plates, these are likely to be the only 'as new' UK-built MG Rovers available anywhere this year. The cars have been in storage since MG Rover collapsed in 2005 and were never made available for sale. The MG Rovers were acquired by car retail group Inchcape, which offers the cars for auction with delivery mileag only.

All three cars are scarce or unusual examples. The Rover 75 Limousine is one of a limited number produced on the long-wheel base version of the 75 chassis. Announced in 2002 as a Vanden Plas edition of the 75, it eventually emerged in 2004 as the 75 Limousine. This example is finished in light metallic grey with dark grey leather interior. (The limousine body continues to be produced in China.)

The MG TF 160 was the performance flagship model of the sports car range, delivering - appropriately - 160 brake horsepower from the 1.8 litre mid-mounted engine. This example is finished in metallic blue with black hood and leather interior and sits on 11-spoke alloy wheels.

The Rover 75 V8 (pictured) was launched in 2004 and is powered by the Mustang 4.6 litre V8 engine. With a revised deep front grille it certainly stood apart from 4-cylinder and V6 versions. At its launch the Rover press release commented "The return of the illustrious Rover V8 combines perfectly with the distinctive identity of this high specification flagship. it is a product of distinction and presence." The model on offer at Blackbushe is finished in dark metallic blue with leather interior.
