Autonomous driving light 21 Nov 2023 (Forum)
With so many cars are now having options to drive autonomously on motorways, I wonder whether it will make sense to provide an indicator light (like brake light) to make following vehicle aware that it is being driven without active driver input. When using adaptive cruise control in motorways, I have observed some following drivers get impatient when the car slowly speeds up - they can't wait and overtakes to fill the space between my car and the car I was following. -
Tesla - Do EV batteries explode in a collision? 2 Aug 2023 (Forum)
In the footage, the Tesla (seems like a model Y but can't really tell) was hit from behind by another Tesla model 3 and a small fire is raging from the back of the car hit. After few minutes the fire get larger and popping sounds are heard, then all hell brake loose. Multiple explosions some are fairly big with white smoke and flames while everyone is running for cover. Is it possible for the batteries to actually explode? I thought EV batteries can catch fire and can't be put down due to the chemical run off but wasn't aware of actual explosions involved. -
Nissan x trail - Nissan x trail 2015, horrible squeak. 29 Mar 2023 (Forum)
The sound happens after driving for say a distance of 5 miles and it's like a loud squeak, almost as though, when the wheel is going round, its catching onto something. My local Nissan initially advised changing the brakes, but the sound has remained and they just told me, they don't know where its coming from, even though I have taken them on a test drive and they heard the sound. I have attached youtube link, in the hope that someone on here might have an idea of what this is. -
Skoda Superb - Boot lid not opening 1.9TDI greenline 2009 24 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Purchased 2009 Superb greenline 4 weeks ago, all in order, but only this week the boot lid refused to open, this version has two options to open in, sedan or hatchback, there is 2 handles at the back for opening the boot, middle one for opening as a sedan, 2nd one press it and rear brake light flashes twice and two motors sound to open as a hatchback, none of this is happening now, when you lock the car too the hazards dont flash. i did get a parrot phone kit installed on wedenesday last, problem occurred on thur mid day- is this the root of the problem? -
Vauxhall Mokka X - Automatic Gear Box Query 19 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Why should it feel ok in one direction and not the other ? I always do things correctly, with my foot on the brake and I make sure to squeeze the trigger on the gear lever, although I'm not sure of squeezing the trigger makes any difference. (does anyone know what that trigger does ?) It's due for a service soon so any advice before I take it to the garage would be appreciated. -
Toyota Avensis - tapping noise after oil changed 30 Nov 2020 (Forum)
First by Toyota and then after a few years by a local garage just across the road from me. Never had any problems with the car until this month, only new battery and brake parts such as pads, discs and pipes to the back.. Had the car serviced and I can hear a tapping rattle from the engine when it is cold. I think the garage used the wrong oil because this was not there before the service. -
2004 Honda Jazz CVT 1.4 - Glitch under load 7 Feb 2020 (Forum)
It only seems to do it in "normal" CVT mode. Not in 7 speed or manual mode. I have removed and cleaned (overnight in brake cleaner ) the EGR valve. No difference. Runs as usual before and after the event. Any ideas please? Thanks for reading. James. -
Garage council 10 May 2019 (Forum)
What are the powers and obligations [if any] of the council in that case? Is it trespassing, as he did not brake anything to get in? He just said a white lie when he returned the keys and kept his car in. Can the council take his car away without notifying him? Thanks -
Bangernomics aside - about as cheap as it gets? 29 Dec 2018 (Forum)
It may be cheap but I think they spend more time cleaning and hoovering it than anything else. My indie said the rear brakes unlikely to have been looked at since new, they were virtually seized. -
Fiesta rear suspension bushes question 21 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Now I just popped my head under to see what had been done and noticed one of the bushes they have not managed to get all the way in, it's sticking out and they have had to adjust the mounting point to suit (there is a link to some hosted pictures below). Also the welding doesn't look too great either. On top of that they have left the hand brake cable off the clip on the subframe at each side. Although I'm not a mechanic, I have done quite abit of work on cars in the past, just get the feeling it's abit of a shoddy job, should I be taking it back to them to sort or is it acceptable. -
Honda Shuttle/Odyssey - Bye bye Honda Shuttle - what next 28 Apr 2017 (Forum)
At long last the legendary reliability of our T-reg Shuttle has come to an end. She's failed the MOT not only on various tyre/brake/suspension items but also on emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and, for good measure, 'dense blue smoke.' So how can we hope to replace it ? My wife demands Japanese reliability in a petrol automatic with ample space for the approaching car boot season, and 7 seats for taking the family to Poland, and under £7000. -
leaning peugeot 106 4 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Or rather the car leans at the front to wards the drivers side. The car drives farly well, goes in a strait line, brakes in a strate line and goes round corners ok. But putting my hand between the top of the frony wheels and the arch there is a bigger gap on the passendure side compared to the drivers side by about an inch or so! -
Galaxy - Ford galaxy 1.9tdi which version is most reliable 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy one on a budget around 3500 with good service history to tow my caravan possibly around the 100000 mark or lower which ones the most least To give me the less trouble over the years what should I look Out for when buying a used one of these .was any improvements made Between each model release from 1995 up to 2006 As there are a number of issues on most if them I am trying To get the best and least troublesome Version I can fix and remove most Serviceable parts like brakes shocks and stuff I can get to but when it comes to the engine side of matters apart from egr valives and service the engine is a no no lol So most stuff a can replace without an aid of a garage. -
tightening track rod locking nuts 4 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I queried this and the said they would drop the price to £10.80 x2. They are also replacing the front brake pads so will have the car up on the ramps etc. Does anyone else think it's excessive to charge so much tighten 2 easily accessible nuts? Perhaps I am wrong but shouldn't this take about 10 seconds per nut? -
Ford Focus 1.6 2007 - Handbrake cable adjustment 3 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I've little or no confidence in the garage where I had the job done following an issue with broken trim, so having read somewhere that a new cable will stretch after a while and will need adjustment, I'm going to do it myself. Haynes says (and I paraphrase) do it when the brakes are cool, tighten cable adjustment nut finger tight, raise handbrake 12 notches, fully release handbrake, slacken adjustment nut to end of threads, then raise back wheels and remove drums. Ensure handbrake still fully released, insert 2.0mm feeler gauge between handbrake lever end stop and rear shoe on each side then tighten adjustment nut till the handbrake lever starts to move. -
Hyundai i20 (2009) - MOT Advisory question... 21 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My 2009 5-door Hyundai i20 had its annual MOT and service. The MOT came back with an advisory note: "001 Brake pad(s) wearing thin, front [3.5.1g]" The garage did phone and notify me (saying the pads were "at 90%" -- whatever that means) and was going to charge £108 to replace the front pads, but I declined at the time. -
any - modern cars 28 Aug 2015 (Forum)
When she went to leave she couldn't get it out, not unusual, its quite shocking how many drivers of both sexes can't do a hill start in reverse...quite why they don't reverse onto our drive i can't say but that's not the purpose of the post...so SWMBO as so often reversed the car out for her. I haven't a clue if it had the parking brake of doom or not, but it apparently had some sort of stop start on it and my mrs is impressed...not. She who must has just asked the question again...why?..quote ''all i want the thing to do is start and keep running, with a key not this push button rubbish'' Music to my shell likes, she's even more in her love with her venerable Outback because it just does everything she asks with no fuss simply. -

Contravene Red Traffic Signal - Camera 12 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have been sent notice of intended prosecution for the above 'alledged' offence - but - although the I did cross the white line, I did not go through the junction. The van came to stop about 1.5 metres over the line, the brake lights can clearly be seen on both photo's sent to me by the police thus proving what I said in the original letter of being true, I did stop but over the line. I commented on this when replying back to them but its a ticket office and they have no say in the matter. -
Ford Fiesta Ghia auoto 2003 - start fault 29 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Sometimes when she (or I) try abd start the car nothing happens. We put the key in the ignition, put foot on brake, make sure it is in D, then turn the key all of the way. Nothing. The letter 'N' does not appear on screen as usual after a few seconds. There are no error messages at all on screen.
