Mazda 6 - MAZDA 6 Diesel or not? 17 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Option 2- Audi A4 (07/08 plate) - DPF problems and unreliable Option 3 - Ford Mondeo (09/10 plate - not heard much wrong with these cars) Option 4 - Honda Accord (09/10) - again not heard much wrong with this one either. -
Ford C-Max - faulty engine response 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have an old ('04) Ford C-Max with a 2.0 diesel engine which I believe is pre DPF. The car has an engine problem which, though very intermittent, is potentially dangerous. The last two times it happened were both at junctions, the engine idling as I waited to pull out into a larger road (in one case a fast A road). -
No fifth wheel for my wagon to go rolling along 15 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Just changed my vehicle to a Nissan QQ (petrol - dpf frightened me off diesel) Lo and behold on checking for the spare what do I find?. No wheel, no space saver just a can of goo and a mini compressor to deal with a flat. While this MAY be suitable for the odd nail penetration I have doubts that this would fix a cut and present a road safety hazard- instead of a fix in 10 minutes a couple of hours waiting for a breakdown attendance. -
Audi A3 Sportback 1.9tdi PD engine BKC - Which oil for diesel engine? 16 Feb 2013 (Forum)
When I compare the two Castrol oils meeting these specs/grades there is no price difference, but cost is not a factor, but feel that as the 507.00 seems to be the latest oil would this be better at protecting the engine and emission parts? The car is a 2005 model with 75k miles, EU4 without a dpf. Many thanks -
VW Passat 2012 - VW ditch unreliable piezo injectors on '12 diesels 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I wonder if the cost of retrofitted replacements together with the risk of litigation (especially in the US where the attached document originates) has initiated this change of policy. I see also that the ridiculously complex DPF system has been simplified by the adoption of AdBlue. It would seem to me that the present generation of piezo injected CR diesels from this supplier are a liability - and they know it. Anyone contemplating the purchase of a diesel VAG vehicle might be well advised to consider the two designs very carefully and possibly wait for the solenoid/AdBlue update. -
Saab 9-3 Convertible 1.9TiD - Emissions in 2008 model year cars 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I do about 15,000 miles per year including a 25 mile rural A road commute so a diesel looks like it fits the bill (and hopefully I'll be OK with the DPF too). I have a question that my Google skills have failed to answer: Does anybody know when the emissions changed for the 1.9 diesel engine in 2008 in Saabs? Early 2008 ones seem to have a co2 output of 169g whereas later ones seem to be down to 145. -
BMW 7-Series E65/E66 (2002 - 2009) - BMW 2004 Diesels 8 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I'd be buying one with about 60,000 miles on the clock, i think this is hopefully too soon to worry about aged injectors, knackered diesel pump or dpf renewal etc. are there any other big ticket items i should be aware of? Many thanks in advance for any experience shared! -c -
Ford Focus - Ford focus 2015 onwards engine choices 8 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Turbo actuators, EGR, Throttle body and ABS pumps all failing and electrical issues. Managed to avoid the dreaded DPF failing but it caused me many an oil change. -
2010 vauxhall zafira 1.9 CDTi diesel - ZAFIRA DIESEL 1.9 CDTi - FUEL ADDITIVE ? 25 Sep 2023 (Forum)
So I am trying to do that. Is it also a good idea to use a diesel fuel additive to clean the Diesel Particle Filter (DPF)? I have never used an additive before and would like the opinions of others who have. nn Thanks in advance for any responses. -
Kia Soul - kia soul 11 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Upto the first mot 2017 it did about 21k then I'm presuming ( not spoken to anyone yet ) it got a second owner and every mot till then has done 2k ish per year the only mot issue was one year advisory on tyres . BUT should I worry about the dpf not getting hot enough to regen during those low miles over the years or would a good motorway run be enough to sort it. thanks for all the help your lot have given now and in the past -
any - EV battery charging method 16 Mar 2020 (Forum)
I'm not aware this is being spoken about, and it reminds me of the ludicrous situation with the barely fit for purpose regen of car DPF's, where you can end driving nowhere just to let the thing regen if and when it decides it, not you the driver, deem the journey suitable and if the driver happens to have spotted the clues. -
2007 VW Passat S TDI Estate - Good or Bad buy 19 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Is there anything I should look out for or ask that has been done or needs to be. Also is there anyway to check if the car is fitted with a DPF from what I have read there were not fitted to the 1.9 engine . Any advice would be much appreciated s -
Galaxy - Ford galaxy 1.9tdi which version is most reliable 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)

Citroen DS3 - New small car - shortlist help 5 Mar 2016 (Forum)
. - probably only 6,000 a year if that (and not as many long journeys as I used to, so worried about DPF or EGR problems creeping in). I'm torn between going with something (hopefully) reliable and I suppose fairly dull (was thinking Toyota Yaris Hybrid) or something a bit different with a kick to it (e.g. -
Mazda CX-7 - Mazda 2.2 diesel issues 30 Oct 2015 (Forum)
We're seeing more and more of these now - seems to be a real problem". Really? (Shame it's out of warranty) 2. Flashing DPF light which diagnostics have revealed is a stretched timing chain, "sorry sir, that's a £1000 repair for new chain & tensioners - we're getting more of these recently". Really? Hang on - CHAIN not belt, surely that's life of the engine? -
Reliable diesel for a budget of 4k? 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
(the kia felt sluggish today, it may just of been a bad example though). I almost went for another ford again but don't like the sound of the 1.6 engines with dpf and various other issues. I guess Hyundai i30's could be an option? Many thanks and apologie for the length of the post, I'm really hoping for some decent help. -
Audi A4 TDI 143 S Line 2008 onwards - buying advice 4 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi John I am keen on getting a Audi a4 s line 2008 onwards tdi model. looking to spend 10k I have seen many examples on trader and elsewhere...couple of concerns hope someone can answer when exactly does the cam belt, tensioners and water pump need changing on this car ? mileage wise Are there any DPF issues I should be aware of ? some of these cars seem like spaceships 4 year old models with 150,000+ miles on the clock, suspect they are sales people driving these up and down the country is these anything specific I should be looking out for ? -
Mazda 3 - Skyactiv 2.2 diesel engine-low mileage suitability 17 Apr 2014 (Forum)
However, I've come across a number of HJ comments (see links below) reassuring potential buyers that the new Mazda 2.2 Skyactiv diesel engine should not suffer DPF problems thanks to its exhaust manifold in head configuration. I have a choice between an automatic 120 PS petrol Mazda 3 2014 and a manual 2.2 150 PS diesel. The cost is about the same but the petrol comes with leather interior. -
VW Golf Estate 2.0 tdi 2009 - EGR 20 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The car has 46.5k miles on the clock and has been regularly serviced at a main dealer. In August 2012 there was a fault with the DPF regeneration, which was fixed under warranty. Otherwise, nothing else to report. The car is regularly used on motorway/main road runs and infrequently for short, or traffic snarled hops. I have been in discussion with VW Cutomer Care, who admit that this fault usually occurs at mileages around the 100k mark, so my car is unusual. -
Audi A3 1.9 TDI - Shudders at speeds over 65 mph 10 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Hi I bought a used 2008 Audi A3 1.9 TDI mid June from an independent dealer, it's an ex fleet with a full Audi service history and 79,000 miles. I've got copies of the history from the fleet company and DPF and cambelt have been replaced on schedule. Within a week of buying it a slight shudder was happening over 60 mph and the brakes were knocking too. The garage replaced the warped brakes straight away and a few weeks later all 4 tyres were replaced - garage was saying that the back tyres had been worn in a way that was causing the vibration.
