  • Are those cameras having an effect? 25 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Last year a total of 2,946 people died - a 7% reduction on the previous year when 3,172 died. It does look as though all those cameras are having an effect on the way people drive and the resulting accident rate.
  • Speed cameras have no discretion - neither do CPS! 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Taken to court, told the case couldn't be dropped and then it was, after a lot of expense. We know cameras have no 'discretion' or common sense - it now looks as though the courts don't either, until people stand up to them!
  • what were they doing ? 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Couple of days ago delivering mail i followed two Hampshire County Council fiesta vans. Both had short (@3 foot) masts on their roof and on the top what looked like a C.C.T.V. camera. The front one's camera was pointing backwards and the rear one's camera was pointing forwards. Both kept at 40mph and seemed to be trying to keep a set distance of about 20 to 30 feet. What were they doing ??.
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 35 4 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I was caught speeding in France over the week-end (140 km/h instead of 90 km/h). I was not stopped by the police, just got caught by a flash camera. Does anyone know what could that lead to? I know that a new legilslation will be enforced by 2007 but until then, what should I expect? Thanks, Cedric
  • The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 36 2 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I've heard on the rumour-mill that the French have an agreement which enables them to prosecute/fine speeding British drivers, who get snapped by the burgeoning number of Gatso-style cameras they now have on their major roads. Is this true or false ? I have read in the UK papers that we ignore speeding from foreign-plate cars in the UK unless they are actually stopped by plod.
  • The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 24 20 Jul 2004 (Forum)
There is a good picture in todays Daily Star (page 28 I think) with a police car parked totally on the pavement with a mobile speed camera. The complainent points out that because the car is completely blocking the pavement, pedestrians must walk around it on the busy road. The polices reply.....its not blocking the pavement. The picture clearly shows it is, leaving absolutely no doubt!
  • snooper 6 gps camera system 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi I have jsy acquired the snooper 6 neo GPS speed camera system. without the radar bit. I would appreciate any users views out there as to how good it really is. I seem to get some odd warnings at times. the manual does not give any info on the types of warning one might experience.

  • Are GPS systems which detect radar illegal in France? 14 Jul 2012 (Ask HJ)
I think that the French ban on GPS relates to systems that detect radar emissions, and that has always been illegal. I think there is nothing new, and...

  • CCTV cameras are they used for 'spying' ? 31 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Got into a discussion at work today. There are an ever increasing amount of cctv cameras appearing in our town centres today, mainly taking the form of little black domes on top of heavily fortified poles. Does anyone know if their purpose is purely to combat "aggro" outside pubs and clubs, or do some police forces also use them as a weapon to spy on the motorist..ie; illegal parking, running traffic lights, number plate checking etc.
  • Red Light Camera 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hi there, Earlier on today a traffic light changed in front of me. As I stopped I am pretty sure I was flashed by a red light camera behind me despite stopping before the line. It seemed to only flash once though. I can't be 100% sure it was the light behind or the one opposite me flashing another car as it was raining heavily at the time and I was busy concentrating.
  • Do SPECS cameras register absolute speed 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
As we are aware, the 'SPECS' detection system calculates average speed over a set distance. Does anyone know if each individual camera also registers a vehicle's absolute speed as it passes the gantry? If not, then could a speeding motorist passing the first SPECS gantry slow to a crawl in order to get the average speed down before passing the next gantry?
  • Sat Navigation systems: Which is best 25 Feb 2007 (Forum)
But which is the best sat nav system, both on a budget, and / or if money is no object? How about anything with built in speed camera detectors / road angel type of system? Do they actually "detect" the cameras, or do you have to tell them where the cameras are? If you know what I mean? Thanks, DrS.

Should I therefore use this setting on the digital camera, or just leave it on Auto and let the camera do the setting?
