Cheap diesel car for less than £1000 23 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I would prefer something easy to work on as I\'ll be changing the oil amongst other stuff myself. My mk3 1.3 fiesta is a delight to work on \'cos there\'s stacks of space under the bonnet. Just really wanted some opinions from a few DIYers. Are the fiesta diesels chain driven by the way ? The options are:- Fiesta Mk3/4 Peugeot 306 any others worth considering ? -
Getting the best out of your car 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My wheels are now around 3 years old. I drive it as if it\'s an extension of my own self. Now, I\'m sensitive about my own health (I have to be, at my age). So what this means is, my car gets driven \'sympathetically\', looked after, pampered, etc. My car rewards me with 100% reliability, and low costs. -
Mondeo Boot Leak 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I have noticed for the first time today I apparantly have water leaking into the boot of my car, almost all of the boot underlay is s**den. I have checked the rubber seals around the hatch and they seem ok, but the metal underneath the seals on each side of the hatch was also wet. Fingers crossed it may be a one off incident after a recent big downpour, but knowing my luck it is more complex than that. -
Nova water pump 12 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The water pump on my daughter,s 1.2 Nova 'banger' has just gone.I have managed to avoid playing with cars in recent times as I buy new ones. But I do have reasonable experience of working on most aspects of car repair. Can any BR's advise me of any pitfalls I should know about before embarking on changing the pump? -
Tales From Under The Hood 25 Aug 2003 (Forum)
What,s the most catastrophic engine failure anyone's had the misfortune to suffer whilst driving? What does it sound like when the cam belt throws the towel in & valves & pistons form an intimate relationship? -
Passat 1.8T temp gauge problems 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The car's not overheating or anything, so I guess it must be a simple issue. Anyone have any ideas as I am hoping it's a simple enough problem that I could remedy. Thx. S. -
Mondeo boot leak 25 Jun 2003 (Forum)
New to the pages, enjoying the discussions and have written a couple of reply's so far. We have a 99 T mondeo 5-door and have noticed some slight water ingress to the n/s rear section of the boot. (This has arrived while the car stood during a thunderstorm and not through driving the car in the wet). Is this a common problem, and can anyone shed any light on the problem? -

National IQ test. Conspiracy ???? 9 May 2003 (Forum)
Something seriously went wrong there (I am thinking on the lines of where they did they get those mechanics from?!?)?? Still makes you think twice next time you ask your mechanic?s opinion on why the engine diagnosis light is doing a samba on the dashboard?? -
Bleeding cooling system BMW 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I replaced the antifreeze on friend\'s 5 series bmw 6 cyl. 1994. Job done... started it up, the temp. started rising well over half way, steaming all over the engine compartment. Tried to bleed it again on those two bleeders on top of radiator and on thermostat housing, no improvement. -

Which diesel estate..... 6 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The short list is: - Volvo V70 D5 (or earlier 2.5 diesel) - Mondeo Zetec-S 2.0 TDCi (130) Estate - VW Passat TDi (130) sport Estate - Saab 9-5 2.2 TiD Vector Estate - Audi A6 1.9 Tdi (115/130) I am looking second-hand but low mileage. Clearly the Volvo and Audi (and to a lesser extent the Saab) are higher priced - but both have higher residuals - better long term investment?? -
Merc SL (W107) Am I asking for trouble? 2 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Am I deluded in wanting to buy one of these? I imagine that the mpg is pretty poor especially on the 450's and I don't have a garage. I would have hoped that the running costs would be lessened by the fact that it is mostly motorway driving. Am I asking for trouble? -

Black Box 20 Oct 2002 (Forum)
It occurred to me that if we made it compulsory to fit them in the UK, together with a GPS tracker, we could do away with S**** C******. Detect them. Fine them. No arguments. We could call it the:- Blackbox Operated Gps Universal Speed Hazard detection device Can't think of a suitable acronym for such a detection device though. -

Has anyone ever driven one, or knows someone that served on one ? Are they suitable for fighting fires today as they were in the 60's? And where are they kept when they're not in use ? Ash.
