Fiat Punto Power Steering Problem 14 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, this time asking for my mum. She has an '03 Fiat Punto 1.2 5million. Last night she was driving home from work when the power steering failed for no apparent reason. She managed to get the car home and when she turned the car off and restarted it the steering came back. She says that it just went when she was driving up quite a main road. -
Bentley Running Costs 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
What I'm driving at is the idea of buying a car that I would be happy to own for a decade or so and how this would compare to your average buy. In other words, breaking the depreciation cycle of newer car ownership. -
Lumpy idle on a 214 Si 5 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi guys, I went to test-drive a 214 Si 3door last night, and for the money (£300 - bargain) it seemed pretty good. One problem, however, was that the idle was extremely lumpy, revving between 1000 and 1300rpm and generally seeming way more active than it should. -
Astra 1.7 TD estate (98 S) 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hello Folks I am a new user so please be gentle! I have a Astra 1.7 TD estate (98 S) which when driving is pulling to the offside (to the right). I thought it was the tracking and so took it to a garage who tracked it and when I asked them if it was out they said oh yes by miles. (like they always do!) -
Stephen Bayley on the Golf GTI 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Perhaps Stephen should clear his motoring palate by driving something truly appalling (you can send in your suggestions: the CityRover might do for starters) for a couple of weeks to get the Bentley out of his system before being handed the keys to another car that the man-in-the-street could possibly afford. -
Help please! Newbie ... 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I'm after a used car but not too old. We have a dog and I am sick of her jumping on my lap in the back or trying to leap over and drive with my boyfriend - so I need a car with a big enough boot for a standard schnauzer. And lastly, we're not good enough at looking at cars to know instinctively if something is wrong so I'm going to have to go to a dealership. -

'96 Polo warming up too quickly 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi, My wife recently complained about her car warming up too quicky. I had a look (no I'm not a maechanic but have been driving afew years with some usual experiences) and all seemed OK - it wasn't over heating etc. To be honest I was too busy to have it checked out, anyway couple of days later the temp went too high and 'smoke' started coming out. -
Front Foglights - why? 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I also think that there are two types of offender: 1) Cool "dudes" - I don't suspect I need to add more to this. 2) Others who think they are "Driving Lights" or some such nonsense. Handy for "lighting up the kerb"... Sorry if this has been done before, but had to get it off my chest. -
Gutless hire cars? 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Yesterday, I managed to drive one at the coast - and though the performance was slightly better, it was hardly the quickest thing about, and left a lot to be desired when overtaking, etc. What i wonder about, is HOW Nissan hopes to impress people, and make them buy these cars, when it is obvious to EVERYONE I've spoken to who's driven them, that they are a bland, underpowered lump, with few redeeeming features? -
Insurance claim ? 11 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Opinions please on recent road accident scenario. My daughter driving normally up A49 trunk road, just after dark. Car crosses from right to left immediately in front of her causing her to brake sharply/attempt to steer around to avoid collision. The car is attempting to enter a farm drive access splay, full of parked cars due to social function, and fails, stopping with boot stuck out into A49. -
Your most/least fun car 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
For those of you who don't believe that a car should be fun, there's no need to answer this thread ... although I'm sure you will anyway ;) Here's mine: Most fun - Alfa 145 Cloverleaf Not the quickest car I've owned, but very good proof that that's not what it's all about. Put's a smile on my face when I see her, put's a smile on my face when I drive her. Perfectly capable of giving you an entertaining drive within the speed limit and without endangering myself or others. Least fun - Vauxhall Astravan And I've owned a Volvo 440, so it must have been dull! -
Sad story of Saab Gearbox 6 Jul 2004 (Forum)
So they took it out, the pressure plate was very rusty, the bearing was gummed up with dirt and the whole thing was in a worse condition than the basket case i have in my garage, they also notices a ball joint on the track arm was nearly gone, really sloppy, i'd been complaining about a wobble to the main agent and they told me i needed a new drive shaft. ulins took the drive shafts out showed me there was no wear, no play when put back into position. Result. purfect gear changes, no steering wobble. Thankyou Hulins, address on directories. -
Travelling to Millenium Stadium 22 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Unfortunately there appears to be only one train in each direction on a Sunday, and it's after the match! Plan B was to drive to the special park and ride facility just off the M4 but I have been told that the wait after the game could be up to two hours to get a bus back to the car park. Plan C is to drive down to Newport and get a train in from there, every 10/15 mins and back after the game. -
Should I buy what I want? 11 Mar 2004 (Forum)
There's a 4 year old Primera 3 on Autotrader for £2300. Is this a typical price? Are they all Rear Wheel Drive? Anyone owned one? I'd prefer this to a Mondeo, strangely, because I think they're dog ugly. Mazda Xedos 6. I love Mazdas big and small. Gonna be thirsty, and older than the above. Am I going to end up hating it? -
Rear End Shunt - One for the Legal Commu 1 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Is this right? Careless driving could be a sticky point if the matter proceeds. Is the whole thing just a formality -
What warrants a 5 yr ban???? 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
A member of the family has a 'partner' who is currently 'serving ' a 5 yr driving ban in the UK. I have received at least THREE different reasons* WHY he has such a harsh penalty over his head, and all of them sound like the excrement of an ox. (if you get the meaning...) Unfortunately, the family member, who has a luke-warm IQ, thinks the sun shines out of etc etc etc, and gets rather houty-toity when we start stroking beards and giving it the 'oh yeah?'... -
Salt water and ABS. Seat Toledo. 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The other blokes I was with were mostly in big 4x4s. Someone with \"local knowledge\" said it was fine to drive through the flooded roadway, althought there must have been at least 6 inches of water, and at least 100 yards of it to drive through. I got through it no problem. Shortly afterwards, my ABS warning light came on. -
Zfira 2.0D Temp Gauge or Thermostat 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
(just registering on the guage). CASE 2 - - Outside temperature around 9 degrees, steady urban driving conditions, no fan required. a) First temperature gauge movement noticed after 3 miles. b) Normal temperature reading (88 degrees on the gauge) after 6 miles. n.b. On my old fashioned Peugeot 405, the thermostat opening is visibly noticeable on the gauge, but this has never been the case on the Zafira. -
Locking wheel nut racket 17 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Today was the first time I moved the car since and as soon as I did there was a loud "BANG..BANG..BANG.." noise very similar to hitting a metal plate with a hammer coming from the rear/underneath of the car. The frequency increased with speed though I was only moving the car gently back and forth in the drive. This and fact that it was driving perfectly before the locking wheel nuts were fitted points towards them fouling on something. I'm not 100% sure but it sounds like its the rear driver's side wheel.
