Oh yes and I can remember Fordsons - long ago they badged lorries and even the 8 hp van Fordson as well as the tractors. I've no idea why - maybe someone out there can enlighten us?

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Ok so we're all giving big lists of makers that by and large look pretty similar to each others so shall we have a go at seeing what brands you have driven that no-one else has?
I shall start with an Ariel and a Noble.
|
Only non-standard car I've driven is the Formula Ford racing car that you drive at Silverstone on one of those package thingys. Great fun, get to pretend your Schumy round the racetrack.

I drove one around castle combe a few years back - fantastic little things, but I managed to miss a gear and create a lot of noise just as I went past my mate with the camcorder. Something I will no doubt be able to forget
|
Did the same at Thruxton and had a great time. Before I went, a friend gave me some good advice. Remember that they're not your brakes and tyres and drive it hard. After I'd stopped braking at my "normal" distance and started throwing it into corners etc, it was difficult to get my crash hat off afterwards due to the very large grin I was wearing.

Over many years I have owned just 5 x Fords and by a big default, a Triumph 2000 auto, for a couple of years.
Most of the rest I have driven were hire cars or friends cars.
Rarest I guess was a Jaguar XJ12C, IIRC one of only 316 produced.
|
Only owned Renaults, VW's and a Peugeot.
|
|
I've driven the usual run of the mill manufacturers cars (eg, Ford, Vauxhall, Rover, Peugeot, Citroen, VW - etc. (used to drive a varied amount of hire cars back in the late 80's for business purposes)
Oh, and not forgetting a Lamborghini..... (shame it was only a tractor though)
Talking of tractors, I see Fordson mentioned earlier. Driven one of them, as well as a David Brown, a John Deere, and a Massey Ferguson.
|
lost count as the list is huge but some of the more unusual include
,moskvitch,lada ,ugo,wartburg ,sno-trac,kassboher,skidoo,
okelbo,ratrac,mack,aec ,bombardier,zetor,ursus,migirus-deutz,
nodwell and probably lots of others I cant remember along with all the usual range of cars from the last 40 years
|
Working for a car hire company for many years the list will be endless so it's easier to list makes i've never driven.
So amazingly for a 20 year driving and career in the motor trade i've never driven a...
Jaguar
BMW (Yesss,,, i still have not driven ANY BMW!!)
Mazda
Rolls Royce/Bentley
Lada
Saab
Aston Martin
Errr..that's all I can think of (driven albeit briefly most of the rest)
|
hmm lets see...
'96 Rover 214i 8v (mine)
'03 Rover 75 1.8 Club SE (dads)
'01 VW Passat 1.9TDI 100 S (dads old car)
'94 Ford Fiesta 1.1LX (test drive)
not bad, considering that i only passed my test in november
|
|
My mention of a Fordson wasn't a tractor Dave but a truck. An old Army three tonner to be exact. But if I had put a tractor in it would have been a Zetor.

What strikes me most as I do this recall exercise is that I've never driven any sort of Japanese car! I also never drove a Ford Cortina or a good old aircooled VW beetle!

What??!?? More info please TVM.
Simple really, Papa RF (oops TVM) was a mainline train driver at Stratford. Rostered to drive the Norwich express out of Liverpool St, MAMA TVM pops the young TVM up onto the footplate just before the great beast leaves.
The last of the Britannias left Stratford shortly afterwards to do service further up the East Coast.

If you?re allowed to have that one RF then I?m having the Deltic locomotive I drove (with my dad) in a shunting yard somewhere in Manchester, I was much younger than you, maybe five, and I was very scared and I was crying. Papa was an engineer though not a driver, he started in the engine rooms of merchant navy ships so if I?d gone to work with him when I was two I could have been piloting some old Liberty ship down the Manchester Ship Canal. Never happened though, sadly.
