  • BMW I3 - I bought a used BMW I3- a story to be updated . 13 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Comfortable., ride smoother than reviews suggested.. Parking in tights spaces fine. Looks  like 2 year old car. Car is 8 years old: battery degradation appears ..nil.. (underrated by BMW) EDIT: I purposely bough pre April 2017 car as VED is £0 rising to £20 net year. Post that date £195. ( I am Mean)
  • Mercedes B class 180d AMG - Quick review. 17 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Safety improved with various systems to try and save you from crashing it! Engine more than capable, manual box very smooth, just as good as the old one. 56mpg today on a 120 mile trip in mainly country A roads. However when looking at the equipment, for a £27,000 vehicle it is poor. For that money you do not get the following which were standard on my old model SE.
  • Carina II -- Tell me the worst, doctor 14 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I stopped the car to let it cool down with the engine off (it's got an electric fan). When it had cooled I limped into the nearest garage who kindly pointed out that my radiator was empty (thanks mate!) and filled it up with water free of charge.
  • Unlicensed Vehicle Letter: DVLA, help needed 9 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Hi all,   Received a letter from dvla stating my car was untaxed on the 19/05/15. On the 15/04/15 I set up my car tax online and have got two confirmation emails stating it has been set up, as well as setting this up for my new vehicle I also cancelled my previous car tax direct debit on the same day.
  • KIA Sportage - RAC Clearing Fault Code to get you back on Road 2 Jan 2020 (Forum)
I now have to wait until my car breaks down (hopefully not with the wife and young kids in it) and send the car on the back of a truck into dealership. Anyone been caught out by this? Can i force AC to look at my car somehow?
  • Toyota Starlet - Transmission Problem 19 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Anyway in she went to my local mechanic, it’s been a month now and he just can’t figure out what/where the noise is coming from, he’s a pretty cautious mechanic and is reluctant to ‘throw parts’ at an ‘old car’. So far he has: - checked and greased the cv boots - cleaned off the brakes and checked everything to do with those - replaced the wheel bearing on the drivers side. - drivers shaft has been removed and the car pushed - the noise is not present.
  • Honda CR-V - How negotiable are costs nowadays - or wait? 11 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Went to test drive a 2016 petrol CR-V SE+ today. Found it much more responsive than the 1.6 diesel and am considering a purchase. Our existing car is a month away from new tax & MOT and I'd prefer to get a new one before then if possible. However the car is newer than we wanted and thus more expensive - it's up at £15,885. Originally we were offered £350 part exchange for our clapped out old C-MAX.
  • Chevrolet Aveo - Mystery Anti roll bar bushes 4 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Without a doubt both will now be creating an even bigger clunk. The reason being the only bushes listed for my car are not the bushes fitted to my car. I've owned car from new and the bushes on it are the ones the car came with. Unfortunately I removed the good bush first (stops me getting lazy and makes sure I change both) before realising the new bushes were totally different to the ones on the car.
  • Too many decisions.... Buy a car 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Anyway if anyone has and suggestions of cars I should consider then please shout up. Budget is about £16k but could stretch to early £20ks if brand new with 0% fiance through a broker to get away from daft "list prices". For the £16k would hope for about a year old to benefit from warranty remaining, and about 10k on clock.
  • Hyundai i30 - Advice required..millage error with car I viewed. 22 Apr 2016 (Forum)
But it's left me scratching my head. I went along to view a Hyundai i30 last night, lovely looking car, 6 years old, the full service history was there. It stated on the ad the it had only 24000 miles, but when I arrived the dealer was quick to disclose that it had actually done 43000. He put his hands up and said it was something he didn't know when he aquired the car.
  • Next car - haven't bought it yet - Extended warranty - what's it like? 28 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hello I am looking for my next used car on the private market. I have never used an extended warranty before, wondered if it would be worth it, and what other people's experiences were, good and bad. As 10-year old cars are so much more money to buy these days it makes things quite a bit more risky.
  • Ford Sierra 2.0 1993 - Water loss 9 Mar 2014 (Forum)
In 4 months it has happened perhaps 6 times, and I can be certain as I check the water evry time I use the car. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how this can be happening. Incidentally car drives like a dream, feels/sounds like a 2 year old car. I have in the past had a collection of classic cars including Bentley, Daimler, Alvis all of which I maintained myself so am a reasonable home mechanic, frankly this one has got me beat!
  • Peugeot 3008 1.6THP - Broken down again, 4 times in 17 months, what now? 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Bought the in Feb 2011 car as a 1 year old from a main Peugeot dealer in Coventry,  drove it abot 8000 miles 2011 to 2012,  and about another 4000 miles since,  22000 on the clock A few weeks after buying it, car lost power and "anti pollution system failure" message showed.
  • Fiat 500 - Car from dealeship accident damage repair 20 Jul 2012 (Forum)
There is also a problem with the suspension also. I dont even want Fiat to have the car back to repair as I do not want it, I feel it was missold to me and I do not want a 2 year old car that has had that much bodywork done...HPI is clear but the car has clearly been in an accident. Not sure where I stand legally and wondered if anyone had any previous experience with something like this or could shed some light on it professionally.
  • Seat/Audi/Skoda. - Advice, what do you think is best? 11 Feb 2012 (Forum)
As a side note I am curently only getting 43mpg and my fuel bill is rising by the month (as are most) I pay £180pm in fuel alone so my next car would have to be more economical As for what car I am lookikng at Seat Exeo, Skoda Superb, Or even an Audi A3 sportsback petrol or diesel not really that bothered and it must be no more than 4 yrs old.
  • Focus 1.6TDCI Estate - Focus Diesel Problems 13 Sep 2011 (Forum)
£1100 !!! No Kerching because we are not going to have the work done instead we will get rid. The car is only worth £2000 so who is going to spend £1100 on a filter! My point is that diesels of old could clatter on for years with regular servicing. But now with the advent of DPF`s and the high cost of replacement renders the car uneconomic.
  • Negotiating at the bottom end of the market 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
A £1500 car with no tax is really (cost to me as a buyer) a £1700 car - is it better to say 'how much off for the Volvo? or how much off for cash, or a combination or none of the above! Any thoughts much appreciated.
  • Recommend a new car for my Mum... (please) 27 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Just under a year ago, my Mum was looking to replace her car. She had a good idea of what she wanted (features, rather than any specific make/model) but when she went to Motorpoint and saw 4 month old cars with minimal mileages being sold at huge discounts from the list price she was a bit blinded by the prices and bought something that didn't really meet her original requirements.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 - Anyone experienced clutch problems ? 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Rarely have I heard of a clutch failing in any car at 43k miles, unless it's constantly been driven erratically. Most cars I have come across have covered well in excess of 100k on the original clutch. My old Peugeot 309 1.9D was still on its original clutch at 150k and my current 306 1.9TD covered 172k on its original clutch.
  • Subaru Impreza II fl 2 (2006 - 2007) - Subaru Brakes 29 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hi All I bought an EU-import Subaru Impreza 2.0RX (the 'old' saloon, not the new hatch) on 1st September. After a nearly three months ownership I remain highly delighted with this car. It really is a great car to drive in my suburban/rural driving and feels incredibly well engineered and "together".
