  • A Question of Oils 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
What is semi synthetic if it not a mixture of synthetic and normal oil? I could have done with the info yesterday as I had to top up a gearbox in an old car and only had a litre of semi synthtic in the garage. I was concerned about using it so had to hunt around to get some ordinary oil. Thanks.
  • Whats it Worth?? 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Evening All.. A good friend and neighbour of mine recently died, and left behind numurous old cars in all states of repair, that his wife is having to sell, one of which she thinks she may have an interested buyer. Trouble is, we have no idea of its selling value. It is a 105E Ford Anglia, it needs rebuilding, all the parts are there, including the engine, which is sat in the back seat.
  • Auto Supermarkets 31 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve just started out on a search for my next wagon and wanted to ask if negotiating a purchase at the Supermarkets is the same as at a Dealership or from a private seller - or are the prices deemed so reasonable as to be immovable? One place I\'ve looked at is Jeffries Farm in Crawley. The cars are generally 2 years old or less, RAC Inspected if less than 10,000 miles and HPI vetted. Also, when bargaining, is there ever a standard figure/percentage to knock off the display ticket to proceed with?
  • Out of the mouths of babes & ... 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Last night SWMBO and I walked through the local council estate as a shaven headed hulk bid goodbye to a streaky blonde in a car. Streaky blonde gives it lots of welly and disappears out of sight with a great noise redolent of tearing calico and neglect. Lots of little boys (2 to 4 years old) playing in a gang are very impressed and run across, one earnestly called out to the hulk, "Daddy, what is it, a go cart?"
  • Audi A6 Key 16 Feb 2004 (Forum)
brought an audi a6 (1998) recently and it only has one key. a friend who had an A6 as a company car a few years ago gave me an old key he had (the flip up type). is it possible to take this to an audi dealer to be reprogrammed and have new key cut in. i phoned up ages ago and they wanted £85 for a new key (inc reprogramming)which i thought was a little excesive.

  • Renault UK Repair Problems 21 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I was involved in an accident in May this year and 7 months later I am still waiting for an interior pannel with no explanation as to the delay or why. My car is only 4 years old! What can I do about it? They do not even respond to my letters! The local dealer ignores the issue as well. Highly stressed - Suggestions welcomed
  • Can I do this for 6k? 1 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I am looking to get a Network Q Y Reg old shape Vectra (1.8 or 2.2) with air con, ABS a CD player, and 2 front air bags and less than 30k on the clock for a budget of 6k. I've only started looking this weekend, and prices on these kind of cars seem to be about 1k adrift.
  • electric windows - Citroen ZX 26 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I\'m keen to sort this out as I can foresee a Hamlet cigar-like situation in the local car wash in the near future!
  • trade-in fair or foul? 27 May 2003 (Forum)
Traded my Leon in last week at a local superstore. Very happy with the deal and car purchased (Avensis pre-reg 16 miles only-old model) but was told that the tax disc on my trade-in was part of the part-ex allowance and I had to hand over. there was 6 months left and I had assumed ( as in every other deal i have done) that this was mine to cash in.
  • Saxo Digital dash reset 21 May 2003 (Forum)
It was covered under the 3 yr extended Citroen warranty and the dash/instruments was replaced. When it was replaced they did not re-program the dash with my old mileage which to me seems wrong. They have written in the service book that the mileage was reset but if the service history was lost then essentially I have a \"clocked car\". Is this right that they would not reprogram the dash ?
  • Pathetic reasons for insurance rises 16 May 2003 (Forum)
Just been on the phone to my broker, and the reason I have been given for my insurance going up this year is that I changed to a car that is in a higher insurance group during the last year. Maybe this proves that insurers have a different system of mathematics to the rest of us, as I'm sure 2 (the grouping of the Yaris) is lower than 8 (the grouping of my old Tipo)...
  • Citroen C5 Automatic Gearbox. 6 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Does any technically minded person know if this problem can actually be corrected as the various software updates from Citroen have made little difference. Car is four months old. What do I do next? Peter S

  • insurance dodgers 15 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Reading an article from a few days old Daily Mirror today at the mother in laws. By Quentin Wilson regarding a garage somewhere who found he had plenty of punters for his cars Providing they had 12 months road tax they would pay the price on the screen with no bartering.
  • Brake fluid change 24 Jan 2002 (Forum)
It is usually recommended that brake fluid is changed every 2 or 3 years. When my car is serviced by the main dealer, they check the fluid boiling point. The latest service on my 3 year old Focus says the boiling point is 196 deg C, with a minimum allowed of 155 Deg C. So is there any need to change the fluid every 3 years if the boiling point is OK?
  • Rusting repairs 27 May 2001 (Forum)
Where do we stand on iffy repair work a few years on? My mother has a six year old VW Polo which sustained superficial damage to the offside about three years ago, and was repaired and resprayed by an insurance-authorised centre. Now the rear wheel arch and the weld around the sill are rusting-this was the area repaired, and there is no evidence of similar rust elsewhere on the car.
