  • Toyota Yaris - Transmission problem 20 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I own a toyota yaris, automatic, petrol, 5 door hatchback,52 plate. Last week car stopped all of a sudden and would not drive when put in D mode. Its a bit weird- If I restart the engine, car drives in first gear for a bit as soon as the speed increases it goes back to neutral & does not drive. This happens even if done repeatedly.
  • Woman passes driving theory test at 950th attempt 6 Nov 2009 (Forum)
From today's Telegraph: A South Korean woman has finally passed her driving theory test at the 950th attempt. The aspiring driver spent more than 5 million won (£2,500) sitting the written exam almost daily since April 2005 but until this week had failed to score the minimum 60 out of a possible 100 points needed to get behind the wheel for a driving test.
  • Vauxhall Meriva A MPV (2003 - ) - 1.6auto do they really drive that badly ? 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
My father has a 1.6 petrol Meriva 08 Automatic. I have not driven another auto in this model & the dealer doesn't have another auto to drive but I have to ask do they really drive that badly ? its all or nothing when you go to pull away & does so with a jerk and is so indecisive when changing gear! even when driving on light throttle it won't change unless you lift off the throttle & then it jerks in!.
  • Is200 - Baby on the way - What Next? 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I've been driving my IS200 for yonks now and absolutely love it but, with another child on the way, it's going to be too small for the five of us. With a budget of only 10K I'm having real difficulty finding something rear wheel drive that's under 2 litres with decent driving dynamics & the total reliability of the Lexus.
  • earplugs & driving 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
These earplugs had "Interchangeable attenuation filters that let you choose the level of attenuation you need in specific situations. Lower attenuation for city driving and higher attenuation to fight the wind noise on the highway." (However, I would have thought foam ones would be quite acceptable.) Has anyone any evidence on the safety or otherwise of driving with earplugs?
  • Thank you police! 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Driving to work this morning on Motorway, an idiot in an Impreza was driving very badly, switching between lanes making people literally swerve to avoid him. This wasn't the usual rush hour driver, this was really bad!
  • New car - close shave! 8 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Not sure if this has come up before (if it has no doubt DD will confirm) but some friends of mine were on the verge of buying a new Mazda 3 last week. They'd done their homework, looked at several cars and had a test drive. Just before signing up and parting with their cash, however, they decided (for reasons they can't even explain) to take another test drive and bring the car home with them. Everything was fine until just prior to returning the car the lady of the household decided to try to park it on her drive only to discover that due to the sloping ground level their drive's odd contruction, the car grounded quite noticeably and the drive would have had to be dug up/relaid in order to accommodate it.
  • Are YOU a good driver? 12 May 2005 (Forum)
Following this guy yesterday while driving home I was thinking to myself what a bad driver this bloke was, talking on his mobile, not indicating, going over the white lines etc. Then I thought, I wonder what drivers following me think of my driving.
  • 1st major drive Exeter to Southampton 28 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I am visiting friends in Southampton/Winchester, its my first major long trip and hope you guys can answer some of my questions (stupid as they may seem). I've been driving to work on the motorway for a good couple of months now, so i have got some good experience of this type of driving. I am driving to Southampton from Exeter and unfortently there is no motorway for the majority of the trip.
  • Insurance Post Code Lottery. 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
But, because I have a London postcode my insurance is very expensive. My friend lives in Essex. He is 28, drives an X reg Peugeot 306 Cabriolet. He drives to work on the other side of the Thames in South London. Where his car is parked in a side street of a not particularly nice area. 75% of his driving is in and through London.
  • Driving with a broken (left) foot 6 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I managed to break a metatarsal bone in my left foot yesterday (slipped on the stairs at 2am while going to see why the puppy was barking). I’m not even going to attempt to drive either of my cars for a good few weeks, and will ask at the fracture clinic tomorrow about driving generally. But I think I will drive my wife’s auto. I can’t find anything in the insurance small print, so might ring them as well, just to be sure.
  • Falsely accused of dangerous driving 27 Mar 2017 (Forum)
They both got aggressive so I called the police.  When the police came round they stated he has accused me of dangerous driving, has footage but won't be pressing charges! I asked for said footage and am waiting to hear back.  The neighbour has a habit of parking on another shared drive or blocking part of the entrance to our shared drive.
  • European driving licences, post-Brexit 23 Dec 2016 (Forum)
I've always thought it strange to allow a straight swap of licence when moving to a country that drives on the other side, but I benefited from that in Spain 20 years ago and my "skeleton" driving licence record still exists on the DVLA computer should I ever need to swap back!
  • Nuisance parking 26 Sep 2011 (Forum)
We live next door to a car repair garage. My drive is parked over and blocked numerous times a day by the garage owner, customers and delivery vans. He also has cars parked on the road for weeks and months on end that never move. We have asked him so many times not to block our drive.
  • Using gears to slow down 18 May 2005 (Forum)
I've been driving for 23 years and the chances of me changing habits now is limited. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Philosophy About Driving 4 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Mostly we talk here about practical subjects and pretty much by definition people who are interested enough to participate take their driving fairly seriously . But if you look at some of the threads that repeatedly crop up under one name or another , what we are frequently talking about is morality in driving. What I mean by that is, that driving is probably the most responsible act most of us perform each day in terms of its consequences for others.
  • Is it time to ban driving 'aids'? 14 Apr 2003 (Forum)
    - this could get tiresome; I'll stick with 'him'). If you get into a car knowing that no matter how stupidly you drive, the car will sort it out then you are going to take risks. But then if, next day, you climb into a different car which hasn't got all these 'aids' and drive in the same way, then you'll like as not end up dead.
  • Night driving. 9 Nov 2018 (Forum)
I know quite a few people who are finding driving at night difficult. Ok when they are on the motorway or well lit roads but B roads when an oncoming car has those superbright searchlights for headlights theycan be blinding. Some taillights are so starkly bright you can't look at them.
  • self-driving Uber 4 x4 (Volvo?) - Driverless car kills pedestrian. 27 May 2018 (Forum)
