Mazda5 or Ford S-Max 6 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I've always had a penchant for Japanese cars, especially Mazda and am considering the 5. I also like the look of the S-Max. We don't need 7 seats on a day to day basis, but the extra space would be very useful on the reasonably frequent trips with extended family and friends. Has anyone got any thoughts on these models? -
A Yorkshire Easter 30 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Rememder sky larks? That sounds like larking about in a airliner perhaps - but they were birds in the 1950`s of course. Then there were hares laying in shallow depressions in the grass and even a local rabbit warren in a clump of gorse, that probably dated back a few hundred years, given it`s proximity to an aged farm. -
Jaguar S-Type 2006 - Heating full on and very hot 25 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I have an S-Type and the heating was coming through very hot inside the car despite using the controls to turn the temp down. I have dual zone controls if that helps. My local independent changed the heating valve unit and this worked for a week. -
There are three wheelers and three wheelers... 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
With a high centre of gravity.. Heading between the Hotel and a bakeshop in the Far East, I spotted this.. It`s tall, looks old and somehow gets around without doing barrel rolls. Perhaps it`s driver should be recruited as a Formula 1 driver? given the wide wheelbase 4x4`s you see in our UK scrapyards that have been rolled by incompetants. -
Physiological degeneration and the oil filter 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
You can `tell` there`s sufficient torque on it can`t you ( the increasingly feeble forearm) - even if you can get only one hand onto it like me. Perhaps similar in some ways, to auto kinetic feedback in vision... Only now sometimes it feels like the head bone is connected directly to the leg bone and the middle bit`s still in bed - asleep, or worse. -
Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - Year of manufacture after year of registration 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Is this technically possible, or does it mean that there has been a DVLA screw up. For the curious, the VIN number is SAJAC01L51Fxxxxxx. It's a Jag S-Type. The 10th character is "1", which according to the websites I've looked at means 2001. -
MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - engineering analysis 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Don't laugh, this is serious. Engineers are checking out a potential problem with the Mini Cooper S after complaints in the USA about leg burns caused by the car's hot exhaust pipes. America's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been called in following 28 complaints by customers who have bought 2007-2008 model year cars which have dual exhaust pipes that protrude beyond the car's rear bumper. -
Vauxhall Agila A (2000 - 2007) - 2002 1.2 N/S door mirror question please. 28 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Have so far visited two Vauxhaul Main Dealers who, after some head scratching and consultation with people in the workshop, contradicted each other as to the following question. 2002 Agila N/S Door Mirror, with colour coded rear cover. Took front surround ( black plastic ) and rear cover ( made from blue plastic with outer surface colour coded to match the vehicle ) to two Vauxhaul dealers, put them on the counter and asked, ---- Are either of these two items available separately please? -
Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - 99 inefficient heating, any ideas? 24 Feb 2008 (Forum)
it would appear that the heating side of things in my 1999 S Type is not what it should be. I usually drive all year round with the climate on 22 degrees and haven't noticed anything wrong...however with this really cold weather i cranked it up a couple of degrees and didn't notice any difference. -
Water Cooled Turbo`s 21 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I noticed in H.J`s road test of the Peugeot 207 GT that he mentioned >>>it has a water-cooled turbo so you don?t have to worry too much about idling before you switch off.>>> When one considers all the problems with seized turbo bearings/failures that have been noted on this forum over the years from Renault, Nissan & even Honda among many others, it seems odd that manufacturers have not adapted water cooled turbos more widely. -
Stone chip removal 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I have the correct Fiat touch-up paint, and assume it would be best not to use the brush in the pot (it´s too big for a fine job). I think someone mentioned using a cocktail stick or a bent paperclip to apply into the paint recess. I have a fine artist´s paintbrush that I can use too. I would really appreciate any tips on this, as I need to sort it this afternoon. -
MPG!! - Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S diesel 4 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have had a new Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S diesel for just over a month and am very pleased with it. However I have not been able to come close to the fuel consumption figures quoted by Ford. The company state 54mpg urban; 72mpg extra urban and 64mpg combined but I can manage only 53.7mpg combined. -
VW Polo 1.9D 1998(S) Rough Idle 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
When I first start my 1998(s) 1.9 diesel Polo the engine sounds fine, apart from the usual noise from a cold diesel engine. When the engine gets warmer and the idle speed drops, usually after about a mile or so, the whole car vibrates really badly. -
Jump start advice 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Anything else to try before I go to buy her a new battery? She´s not an AA/RAC member BTW. Is her battery basically kippered? Her car had been standing for a while and was completely dead to begin with. Not a sausage. So that´s what I suspect. Any ideas gratefully received. -
Scenic Automatic. Problems? 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hi, My wife and I set out to find a second hand Scenic a few weeks ago. In a local garage we found a 1.6, 51 (Y) plate automatic for £6000. It?s done 22K and apart from a few scratches on the driver?s door, appears to be in good condition. It?s had 2 owners and is the expression model, so its got lots of extras; twin electric sunroofs, CD auto changer etc. -
Volvo (PoloGirl got a 2:1!!) 8 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Not sure I actually want it as I suspect it will be too admin-like (making sure the adverts make the local paper on time - hardly what I\'ve spent 3 years at uni to do) and would prefer to work at head office level, but hey, if they offer me lots of money and a car I\'d be mad to turn it down! ;-) So... feel free to tell me everything you know about Volvo as it\'s one of the few brands I know virtually nothing about - don\'t think I am quite in their target demographic yet! I know it\'s owned by Ford (isn\'t it?) and that\'s about it! Thanks! -
Honda Civic Type S v. Mercedes A-class 31 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Still searching for my wife's next car - current;y she has a Honda Jazz - excellent but not quite enough oomph. Anyone got any experience of the Honda Civic S-type (2 litre) or the Mercedes A-class: the A140 wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but the 160 and diesel 170 should be better. From what I read people seem to be pleased with their Hondas (as we are) but disappointed with their Mercs. -
Urgent Question - Brake Problem. 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I am a non-technical person so need comments, please, on the following fairly basic question. This morning I had some work done on N/S/R brake drum. The mechanic took O/S/R wheel off as well and later told me that he had adjusted both brakes. I then did a 50 mile high speed journey before calling at a tyre depot. The fitter there drew my attention to the fact that O/S/R wheel was very hot...binding brake??!! -
Merc S-Class:Adding a Sub-woofer 17 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The panasonic will need an amp and a sub (in the boot I guess). SHOULD I add anything at all? Is there a particular way of adding such electronics to an S-Class? Or should I just leave it well alone because it's far too great a risk to add anything to such a complex car and make do with the existing 14-speaker setup? Any help or advice appreciated. -
Celica dying 12 May 2003 (Forum)
Sometimes it dies while I?m sitting there. I haven?t checked anything, the plugs are pretty inaccessible. It?s one of those intermittent faults that?s hard to reproduce. Generally happens when the car is warm, not when cold. I?d be interested in any opinions as to the problem.
