Buying a used small car with lots of headroom - what do you recommend? 7 Mar 2014 (Ask HJ)
I need to get used small car with an automatic ‘box up to three years old. Already have Audi Q5 for long trips, so will use the small car for small runs... -
Chevrolet Aveo - I have been sold a clocked Chevrolet 11 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The car looked immaculate, had an RAC report provided by the garage and all seemed in order. So far we had to change the solenoid in the gear box (it's an automatic) and the top plates in the front suspensions. All was replaced under waranty by the garage that sold me the car. Had the MOT done last week (new style certificate) and I discovered that the last MOT reading before the one showing 5000 miles was in fact 28.000! -
Volvo V70 - fire hazard/damage who is responsible/pays 22 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I was expecting a more concerned reply from Volvo. Is this not a defect if the manual says there should be an automatic cut off once temperature is achieved? Who is resonsible for repair? -
Peugeot 508, 3008; Mazda 6; Jazz; Colt; Yaris - What car to choose with £12000 budget 13 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Hi all, I am looking for a car within 12K budget, but it's hard to decide and I really need some expert opinion to help me choose :-) I am looking for an automatic car that will be used for at least a year and then sold. Thus, cars with low depreciation are with high priority. I prefer buying either new or approved car. For example I was looking in Approved Peugeot 3008 and 508 models that after just a year lost about 40% value. -
Nissan Micra SE K12 2003 - EPS / Power steering assembly pro 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
A solution would be to get a recon unit fitted (cost around £200 plus fitting) but, obviously, the dealer would not touch such a solution. My question is whether a recon unit would automatically communicate with the rest of the car electronics without the intervention of dealer-type diagnostics. Another niggling worry is that this fault is hiding one or more other faults in the NATS system. -
Importing a Japn Grey Import - How ??? 30 May 2011 (Forum)
I am considering changing my elderly Corolla hatcback for a biger automatic estate car, and was wondering about getting a grey import (I already have a celica convertible grey) I was thinking of something like an Avensis estate (think they call it Caldina) or Corolla estate or something similar. -
Toyota Corolla - What can I do with an old French registered car 25 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My son was working in France last year and bought an ancient, left hand drive, Toyota Corrolla automatic. It only cost him £400 and has been a fantastic workhorse, touring both France and Italy before driving back to the UK with not a spot of bother. Unfortunately he has now gone to Spain to work and left the car with me and asked me to scrap it. -
2008 (2003-2008) Honda Accord 2.4 tourer - HID headlight aim 11 Feb 2011 (Forum)
On unduating roads this means that oncoming vehicles get the full blast. The manual says the aim is set automatically on the HID versions. Car came with a full 12 month MOT and I took it back for the workshop to recheck. They say that it is set correctly. What do I do? Take it to a Honda garage in the same group who may have more idea about this car? -

Peugeot 607 - 607 3.0 Auto 'Clonks' into Reverse Gear 31 May 2010 (Forum)
The car seemed to drive okay into the auction hall but I was a bit worried about the clang when I put it into reverse? Is this jolt normal when a tiptronic automatic 607 3.0 is put into reverse or does it indicate something wrong with the gearbox. Given that the car is in an auction it's impossible to test drive it before buying it. I've never had a 607 before but a few years ago I had a Citroen C5 3.0 with the same engine and the tiptronic gearbox. -

Chrysler Neon II (1999 - 2006 ) - 2001 2.0 Error: P0755 Shift Solenoid B Malfunction 17 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My car, an automatic, is currently in the garage, has been for almost 2 weeks but the mechanic hasn't a clue what could be wrong with it. He has checked the most obvious things from this error, just info that could be found online, but has come up with nothing. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 01 1.4 can't re-fit drivebelt after removal 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I can't seem to relax the tension on the tensioner in order to fit the belt along it's intended path and then tension the belt. As far as I can gather, there are 2 tensioners and as the car has A/C I *think* it has the automatic tensioner (there's a vertical spring going upto the tensioner pulley & the square hole in the tensioner assembly that I apparently should insert a 3/8" bar to do the levering) and that I should be able to lever the pulley back, fit the belt and then let pulley spring back into place. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1996 petrol auto - keeps cutting out 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
An acquaintance has a 1996 Astra automatic, 1600 or 1800cc she thinks. She says the model is a GTX (I can't find it listed in CBCB). She has had it a year or two, bought from a dealer in Brighton, mileage allegedly 58,000. It hasn't had an enormous amount of use but hasn't been left standing longer than three weeks. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.6 help with erratic temp gauge 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
if anyone can help i will be amazed, simply out of ides now, got a 2001 51 focus 1.6 automatic estate, temp gauge seems to so what it wants when it wants, one min it sits fine in the middle then shoots up in to the red although the engine does not overheat, i have checked the radiator for blockages, had the cooling system flushed through so there are no air locks, thermostat has been changed, so has the tempreture switch between the ht leads, the water pump has been taken off and changed, the car has been to an electrical place to check for fault codes and the ecu but they have found nothing wrong, have just used silver seal on the engine to seal the head gasket (if there was a problem with it) have even taken the dash out and changed the temp gauge needle thingy with the one off my wife's (who's works fine) and now im out of ideas if anyone knows of something ive missed or what it might be your help would be greatly appreciated -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.6 Engine revving when clutch depressed? 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
There doesn't seem to be any lag or slippage when accelerating though, only some increase in revs when pressing in the clutch. Could this be anythig to do with an automatic choke? Or is ti possible that my clutch is about to conk out on me? 1999 T reg 1.6 with 65,000 on the clock. Any thoughts gratefully received - will return about 9pm as I have to go out. I hope I've posted all necessary details. -
British built auto estates - any out there? 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I am looking in to the possibility buying a new estate car, and I require automatic transmission, preferably of the DSG/Tiptronic type. Many models are under consideration (leaning mostly towards a Skoda Octavia at the moment), however it has crossed my mind that I would dearly like to buy a British built car if at all possible. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1994 1.8 Indicator stalk not self cancelling 21 Dec 2008 (Forum)
By that I mean that when you flick the Indicator on to turn a corner and you turn the steering wheel, when the wheel returns back around, the Indicator stays on. The stalk does not flick back up again automatically. The stalk is the same as the one pictured here http://tinyurl.com/4y3yca I have a spare stalk which I have had fitted, but the same problem still exists. Is this problem likely to be solely due to the stalk unit or is there like a cam type of system on the actual steering column.
