  • Breaking down, never a good time.. 26 Dec 2008 (Forum)

( A then one year old 1989 BMW 318i 2 door if it matters ) Present bought. Time now 5.00. Dark. Get back to car to complete journey to rural location. Turn engine on.........nothing.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - Corsa D 1.0 Life 24 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My youngest daughter thought that it was the coolest car in the world, and the eldest grudgingly called it 'distinctive', although it has now been nicknamed the banana car. It was certainly very easy to spot in the car park yesterday, I have actually grown to like the combination, cheeky and chirpy.
  • Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2009) - manual or auto? 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Its not quite bangernomics though having a 5.5 year old car that has done 125k and drives pretty much as new has lead me to believe in running an older car that has already largely depreciated. So I am thinking possibly of a slightly older V6 saloon, not the 2.1, I have driven one, it lacks torque, the 2.5 is much more flexible yet alone the 3.0.
  • Minicab (RR etc) Scam To Avoid Congestion Charge 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)

  • Council "Abandoned Vehicle" notice help? 8 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Today I find a Council notice stuck on the screen saying in the Council's opinion the car is abandoned, and in 7 days the car will be destroyed. I've got the key, but I'm not the owner or registered keeper. Now, can i just remove the notice, and the problem will go away? After all, it's a free country and the street is anyone's car park legally I though.
  • Cadillac BLS. What a Pointless car! 11 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The car, which both the Disaster (BLS) and the "Stylish Veccy" (9-3) are based on. GM is ruining Saab with a tarted-up Vectra, a Dame Edna Everage on its last legs and a gargoyle-like American SUV. Saab is in desperate need of an Audi A3 rival, I wouldn't even mind if would turn out to be a tarted-up Astra, because the new Astra is actually a very good car.
  • Reverse Crunching - Renault Scenic 15 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Or now for the biggy - have I worn out the clutch completely. I have to tell a confession. I learnt to drive manual on this car - brand new car, now only 3 and half years old now. Get ready for this - heads were in hands when I told the blokes at work. I have been driving this car with my foot resting on the clutch pedal from day one.
  • Accidents-- Pedestrians and Cyclists 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Cyclists should also be aware that riding at high speed through shopping precincts and pavements is dangerous for old folk who cannot move away quickly and when appoached from behind the shock can send them quickly off balance. If a car jumps the lights at a pedestrian crossing huge howls would go up from the pedestrians involved but how many of them jump the lights when they turn red against them and run over as cars are moving off ?
  • Vauxhall Cascada - Clutch Burnout in under 19,000 miles? 3 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Id been out for a couple of hours and came to a steep hill. Yes it was b***** steep but nothing a 2 year old car cant handle right??   I didnt creep up the hill, I applied the handbreak and waited until there was a full cars length infront of me before attempting to move up further. Only my car didnt move.
  • Dacia Duster - Parts problen 14 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Unfortunately it has just been written off due to the companies failure to provide a steering rack for the repair of the vehicle.  I understand there is a global parts problem which is the case with many different car companies. However for my car (which is under 3 years old) to be written off by an insurance company because it wasn't deemed financially viable because of a part which I could have sourced and was quoted £99 delivered does not sit right with me.
  • Rare 'bird' spotted in Aberdeenshire! 19 Sep 2021 (Forum)
About 11 or 12 years ago I was lucky enough to view a Gordon Keeble (100 were made in total) in the mirrors of my van as I made my way along some country roads near the Aberdenshire village my parents live in. I was very excited, but as it is such an obscure car, there wasn't anyone I knew with who I could share my excitement. Even my Dad had no idea what a Gordon Keeble was!.  Today, after having lunch with them, I set off home. Got about half a mile along the road and noticed a small old red sports car coming towards me.
  • invincible pedestrians 13 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Has anyone on here had an accident due to this type of behaviour? I did once see someone lying in the road trying to stand up after they had just been hit by a car that they had walked out in front of. The individual was considered a local Hardman although at that moment in time I think the old lady driving the car fared better than he did.
  • Breakdown cover for punctures 14 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I own a 7 year old Honda CRZ and when I bought it I paid a rather ludicrous sum to get the manufacturer supplied space saver fittted in the boot well. I don’t have breakdown cover anymore (I had one year as a Honda approved used car) as I thought the car runs with perfect reliability so was ready to chance it.
  • Volkswagen Polo GTI - PCP - trade in early or not? 30 Jan 2017 (Forum)
They are currently phasing out the old model so have a good deal on it at the minute, 0% Apr and 2000 deposit contribution means I'd pay roughly £40 a month more than do for the polo.  Problem is my car has been valued at £300 less than I owe on the finance.
  • VW Golf - Buyer beware-check MOT history 16 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Browsing on line at a half decent looking low mileage VW Golf -for sale, via a dealer -with the numberplate visible the other day-I spotted a six year old model with 38,000 total-approx on the clock. Checking the MOT history site--I noted the car had passed it's last 4 MOT's with only one or two minor advisables. " Goodo" ,I thought and read on....

Hi guys, looking for some help with diagnosing an issue on my BMW 330i N53. I have recently had a rough idle/misfire problem on my car, i replaced the spark plugs in an attempt to try and solve the issue, however i had to swap back to the old ones as i purchased the wrong plugs, i did notice that the bank 1 plugs were very sooty, also the misfires are occurring in cylinders 1 to 3, mainly cylinder 3.
  • Peugeot 406 2.0. Hdi fuel consumption 29 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I live in a rural area and generally only drive at a steady 60 mph avoiding hard acceleration, my son went to Cornwall in it on Saturday and it returned 45 mpg, I have done the same journey in the old one and always get 60+, my son has a heavier foot and doesnt do as well but he still gets  mid '50s. I bought the new car because of its condition and service history but I am very dissapointed with the fuel consumption.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210 - Tyre size for Mercedes E300 TD Estate W210 21 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I have an old workhorse Mercedes E300 TD Estate  W210. I do not have the handbook and was wondering what tyre sizes should be fitted to this car, and if mine are standard / ok ? I bought the car with budget Chinese rubber STK Sport 225/55/R16 99WXL  on front Accelera Alpha 225/55 ZR16 99W XL  on rear   They are all legal and passed MOT a few weeks ago, but the grip doesn't feel great, and I was thinking of getting some better quality tyres.
  • Mazda 5 Petrol - Engine Blown / Irreparable 8 May 2014 (Forum)
Says I would need new or second hand/recondition engine. but says costs of this plus the labor could be greater than the car is worth. His opinion is to cut loses and scrap it. Also offered to scrap it on my behalf for nothing. Car is a 55 (9 years old with about 80K).
