  • 2001 Civic type R misfire - Wanted knowledgeable Honda garage 12 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I complained to Honda UK, who were not interested, and offered a FREE 1/2 hour back at useless Howards. The problem is no fuel pulse to cylinder 1. The injector is fine, and squirts if fed from the cables for cylinder 2, and the cable to cylinder 1 will not trigger the injector for cylinder 2, so the problem must be in the lack of an electrical pulse to the injector of cylinder 1, which I can demonstrate easily.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 petrol (2005) - Rough idle, occasional trouble starting when warm 31 Aug 2012 (Forum)
It's just had new HT leads, plugs and an air filter to try to rectify the problem. Could this be MAF sensor? Coil pack? Fuel injector? something else? I have no idea how to pinpoint the issue without spending huge wads of cash. There are no trouble codes showing when using a code reader, no warning lights on. Thanks
  • Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25 (W ) registered - Ford Fiesta Spark Plug Gap Setting,Opinions Please 9 Aug 2012 (Forum)
After 2 years and only 4,000 miles I decieded to check the spark plug gaps, the owners manual states spark plug type  AYFS 22C  gap 1.3mm The Spark plugs gaps were set at 40 thou, I calculated 1.3mm  as 50 thou which did appear to be a large gap..........but I reset them all to 50. After 2 tankfulls of fuel I suspect the MPG has dropped by 10% Are there any ford mechanics that can advise me please ? should I leave them at 50 or reset them to a smaller gap ??  thank you
  • vw passat 1.9 tdi ( 100bhp avb engine ) - no power & missfires while idleing 21 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I took it back to the garage and they tested the turbo , they say it is "spooling up "perfectly and they cannot find any leaks on the pipes , they have put it on the computer & it shows no faults. the garage says it could be a faulty injector or the wiring loom or the pressure boost valve or even a dirty fuel filter but its only done 1000 miles since the last service has anybody suffered this problem or maybe know how to solve it , i cant afford to keep throwing money at it but i cant afford to change it either . any help would be greatly appreciated
  • Volkswagen Golf IV - VW Golf TDI Lag Problems 19 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Is there anything else that could need changing or could be at fault/damaged like delivery of air, fuel or engine management ect? The car had a remap about 5 years ago so could this be the problem after the rebuild? The car also need 2 attempts to starts at the moment.
  • Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - 2006 onward 1.5 Harsh Engine Noise 3 Apr 2012 (Forum)
So I was thinking it is somewhere in the drivetrain and might be clutch-dependent. Oh who am I kidding, I don't know! My fuel economy is as good now as when I got the car. Full Toyota service history. Nothing was seen on a recent dealer visual inspection performed alongside an MOT. Any help for a newbie would be very much appreciated.
  • Best reliable and economical car for £2000-3000 29 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Hi people, I have recently been offered a new job and its going to involve an 38 mile commute each way, pretty much all motorway. I currently have a Honda Accord Type but unfortunatly this going to have to go as it drinks the fuel :( Im hoping to get between £2000 -£3000 for it so I basically have that to spend on something more economical. I'm thinking maybe... VW Golf tdi (90 or 110 as I have heard the higher bhp PD models can be unreliable) is this a good idea or is there anything better out there the most important thing to me is reliability and economy a close second.
  • Chevrolet Epica with michelin energy savers - HJ epica review 26 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Normally i only ever buy budget tyres as most of the time I have changed my car around the second tyre change as that is generally when the warranty has expires. I'll see how it affects thw fuel consumption too.
  • Ford Mondeo - dpf removal 6 Nov 2011 (Forum)
What if i obtained a redundent dpf knock the middle out  and fit that  one would assume regen will never happen as it will never sense a blockage plus the fuel catalyst can be left  in  place so the engine in theory would burn cleaner, or am i living in a fools paradise. I just dont fancy being rumped to the tune of £1500 by the blue oval bandits evry eighteen months, i am greatful for any advice or info regarding this
  • Eco friendly unleaded petrol 5 Nov 2011 (Forum)
From Auto Express: At least one million motorists could be forced to buy premium fuel from next year – paying an average 8p per litre more at the pumps – as the Government prepares to increase biofuel content in regular unleaded. Petrol currently contains up to five per cent ethanol, which most cars can safely use.
  • Citroen C3 1.4 HDi HX engine Siemens Injectors - Sticking injector? 30 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The car will then run happily all day, no warning lights, goes up and down hills without loss of power and so on, until left for a few hours, then it starts again. The car has been serviced in accordence with Citroens recommendations and had a new fuel pump fitted. Any ideas before spending another wedge on an injector replacement?
  • Cheap, smallish, reliable car recommendations 26 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hello, We're downsizing from a Mondeo estate and Renault Grand Scenic to two new cars, one will probably be a Galaxy (we need a 7/8 seater) and the other is going to be a smaller car. Our fuel bill between us is around £500-£600 a month as we do over 15k each so we are hoping to make some cost savings by having a economical car to replace the Scenic as that only returns ~35MPG.

  • 635 - Old barges 29 Aug 2011 (Forum)
The engine really is a peach, not especially quick by today's standards, but after the unending diet of today's whirring petrols and rattly 4 pot diesels-the sound track of the big six was a welcome change. The L-Jetronic fuel injection system still worked pretty well-settling into a smooth idle after sitting for months. The seats were as comfortable as any that I've sat in, interior beautifully finished, no low rent plastics.
  • What car should I buy? 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Most recently we've looked at the new Ford Focus Zetec, 1.6 diesel, and have a test drive arranged - just not sure if this is the best way to spend that much money?! Any advice greatly received, particularly around engine size/fuel combo. Oh yeah - has to be Manual too Thanks all! Vicki
  • Peugeot 206 sw 1.4 hdi 2005 - Unknown peugeot fault code 14 May 2011 (Forum)
I took my 2005 206 1.4 HDI to the garage yesteday as the engine fault light had come on and we were in limp home mode (although limiting a diesel to 3000r.p.m is hardly limping.....)  The garage brought up the fault codes as follows:  P0087 - fuel rail/system pressure too low  P0480 - Cooling fan 1 control circuit malfunction  P0692 - Unknown fault code.  So, obviously I'd like to know what that last fault code refers to.
  • '01 Ford Mondeo 1.8 130k miles - missfire, speedo, instruments etc 26 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Sometimes, just driving along, with unnecessary electrics on, the speedo drops to zero the miss starts and performance is lost. The fuel guage also drops from half full to nearly empty at times and recovers.  Not sure this is at the same time as the any of the above but seems to have started at the same time. I suspect there is more than one issue here, but it all seemed to start at the same time, suggesting just one fault.
  • kia sedona - No pulse on injectors with 2.9 CRDi sedona 2004 9 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Ive just swapped an engine in a Kia Sedon 2.9 CRDi, 2004 reg. Everything is in and seems fine, good compression, good fuel prssure, strong battery etc. problem is the injectors arent opening. They are the originial injectors in the original locations so its not a coding issue. I have had a noid light in the injector wiring plugs and there is nothing at all.
  • Toyota Yaris - Toyota hot starting problem 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
If I keep the starter going, it still won't start. It may splutter a bit but it's as if something, either the sparks or the fuel, is turned off and won't come back on until the second time of trying. At which point it merrily will start and run just like it should. So far I have changed the MAF to no improvement, but now I think I need to start testing things.
  • Looking for a AWD Estate Car - Your advice sought 13 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Overall I have been very happy with it - it has a nice bit of poke when needed and cruises effortlessly.  The only major issues I have had are the fuel injectors at around 100,000 miles and the ground clearance. I was thinking of replacing it with a similar diesel estate but better ground clearance.  But, having had the second bad winter in a row with (having done some research) a serious possibility of another 7 or so white winters to come, I am thinking of an AWD Estate instead.
